About us
I am a licensed and bonded General Contractor focused on residential remodeling. I utilize sub-contractors for electrical and plumbing aspects of my projects as that is required by law, but am hands on for all other parts of the project. I pride myself on quality wormanship being on time and on budget. I enjoy interaction with my customers and have built my business on word of mouth.
The quality of the work was not good, It looks like he did this as a favor for me, he comes in as a charming guy but when you get to know him you will see another side of him. He was very unprofessional and a true scam artist. I would never worked with him again, he was not honest. Some of the work he did very well, but for the trim work I would definitely question that. It was all about money than quality. He was very forgetful he should replaced all the door hardware but he missed it so I need to call a locksmith to do it. He doesn't take criticism well, he doesn't like strong woman I guess. But with the siding, he did a good job on that.
Description of Work: He did a door trim and put a new door for my upstairs bedroom in my house. He change out 3 exterior doors. He had to fix the rot siding outside of my home near the front door.

Description of Work: He collaborated with me and built a deck that looks like it is an original part of the design of the house. He pays attention to details. My family loves spending time on our beautiful deck! I would definitely use his services again!!

I think overall, our project went better than we might have expected, mainly because of the apprehensiveness that comes about from hearing and reading of others who have had a less than satisfying conclusion to such a process. Unfortunately there are many individuals "working" the trades who have neither the experience or the conviction to do a proper job. Even more important are the financial pit falls that can surely come about with many of these individuals, taking monies and leaving jobs sloppy or unfinished. We certainly had none of these problems with Big J Construction, LLC. Over the years, we have had many houses, some built from scratch, some bought newly finished, some we did extensive remodeling ourselves as well as all of the hands-on labor, so we did have previous experience in finished products, materials and the labor involved. Our initial dismay on this remodel project was the overall cost spectrum in the bidding process. When it came down to the final decision as to who was going to get the project, we relied heavily on speaking with former clients of our chosen contractor. I will say that we found the Internet a valuable tool in helping with getting a handle on what we needed to know about "reasonable" costs of labor and materials before we began the project. There were some significant cost savings in buying certain hardware & fixtures online as well, although there were some items that were purchased locally because of "timing" factors. Our project went very smoothly throughout with the exception of a cut finger (no stitches required) and towards the end . . . an existing mirror that we were going to reuse started to crack so we replaced it, as it turned out, the new mirror was so much better of a design choice that I think it was meant to be. Now that both rooms are finished, we are very confident that we got what we paid for and more. I think the largest gain, especially in the master bath, is that we are now using 100% of the square footage of the room whereas before, that huge hulk of a soaking tub sat there eating space and giving nothing in return. All of our Grohe fixtures are wonderful and we know we made a great choice with all of them.
Description of Work: We needed to update our master bath and powder rooms, both rooms had marble tile vanity tops that were in really bad shape, the shower pan in the master had been leaking for some time and we knew there was damage to the sub-floor. There was a huge hulking jetted soaking tub in the master that was totally useless and ridiculous in size (total water waster) and was never used. The cabinets were outdated and were lacking in needed functional space. After four bids for the job, we decided to go with Big J Construction, LLC, in part because of a list of previous client references in our general area that we called and spoke with about their projects. We had already made some purchases of bath hardware and had worked with Home Depot in selecting and ordering all the cabinets for the spaces. Buying from The Depot was a very good experience, we were able to work with a very knowledgeable design person, place the order, and finance that large purchase with 0% interest, free delivery plus an additional 10% off for working with The Depot designer. Onward: . . . The demolition began in January, cool and rainy, John, owner of Big J Construction, made sure all flooring was totally covered and rooms were masked off to hold down the mess that was sure to happen. John and another team member had the demolition complete, down to the studs in three days, all debris gone as well. John brought in his framer, wall board taper guy who did a perfect job on the damaged sub-floor, new wall section and wall board portions of the job. John then brought in his plumber and electrician who did their part of the project. He brought in his granite fabricator for measurements and helped us with slab selection and design of all areas where granite was to be used, which was a big part of the project. I would add here that the granite person did an absolutely fabulous job for us, his work is top of the line. John was present during all visits and work by his team members and kept us totally informed about what was going on. He showed us each step as it was completed, checked to make sure we were happy with everything that was being done. His suggestions, including changes, to some or our original ideas made all the difference in the final outcome of the project. We are so pleased that he was on the job all the time, making us aware of things that would work out better overall, and he was right on. John did all the newly relocated shower inclosure, tile work, glass block wall and glass block window installation. He then installed a heated floor system after which he put down the new 18x18 tile flooring (beautiful). He then installed the cabinets and double vanity which involved intricate moldings and fitting to perfection. John painted the entire room, installed the new sconces, two fans, can lights, etc. Then it was time for the granite tops, plumbing hardware throughout both rooms and any touch-ups, which were minimal. Because we had changed an original window with a smaller glass block window, John had to match the siding on an exterior wall, and that turned out perfect and matches the surrounding siding perfectly. I think we can say that we chose the right company for our project, John and his team were so professional and made us feel part of the overall process. John ate his lunch with us every day and by jobs completion, we felt like we were old friends. We will use John in the future and recommend his company to our friends.

I recently had my bathroom redone and Big J Construction did a great job and under budget. We did a complete remodel, including new flooring, cabinets, toilet, tub and faucets and Big J Construction handled it all. We even ran into some plumbing issues and John was able to handle that for us as well and at a very reasonable price. He gave us recommendations but he allowed us to make all the decisions and we were part of the whole project. We appreciated everything he did for us and our new bathroom looks great and we will definately call upon John and Big J Construction for our next project, the kitchen. Thank you John for a great job and for coming under budget, that means a lot to us.

We had difficulty getting our new home completed by our general contractor which was very frustrating. John stepped in and finished the jobs that needed to be done. He is knowledgeable, professional, the quality of his work is excellent, and he understands how important it is to complete the job on budget. We look forward to hiring him again in the future.
Description of Work: Installed cedar ceiling in the bathroom & completed finish work on the exterior of the garage.
