He sent me a quote for a lump sum, he didn't give me a break down of materials/labor, etc. He also scoffed at getting a permit to do the deck work. I would not use him or his services!

I contacted Gottfried together with 6 other companies to get quotes. His came over to assess the work and discuss options. I liked his creativity and his willingness to suggest options or work with my preferences. If you are on a budget or if you remodel to increase the value of your home, he is the guy to go to. He does quality work, but also keeps the cost in mind. The project took about 6 weeks to complete, but this is partially due to new work I requested him to do. For bath remodels definitely let him install new tile and do the plumbing, but get the vanities at Home Depot instead of ordering them custom-built. The pre-fabricated ones will be faster to get and cost less. This is more a lesson for myself, than a reflection on Gottfried, since he was only installing them anyway. BTW, he has a great appreciation of what will work and what won't (e.g. colors or styles of lights), so use him as a sounding board for your selections for furnishings.

I waited days (week) before I received a response then it was almost another three weeks out for him to come look at the project we were considering doing. He was only a few minutes late. He listened carefully and came up with a few ideas and then measured. i was going to go over the other side of yard with him also but he was short on time. It was a very long process for him to get back to me with a bid and picture of what he was thinking (three weeks). His ideas were good but not exactly what I had in mind for a design and if it was going to take as long as it did in the first place for the second trip and charge summer would be over. I will be seeking another quote from another company. But was a very pleasant person. Just the bid process for a deck took him over a month to do.

Extremely pleased with the results. Gottfried was the general contractor but did much of the work himself. He is dependable, hard working, efficient and creative. Many of the unique touches to the remodel were his suggestions.

This was our second project using Axis Custom Builders. Gottfried recommended we use Iron Wood for the deck and used fasteners underneath to attach the decking. The result was a deck without the annoying screwheads. This came in very handy when finishing since we could use a power sander to prepare it for the sealer. A great time saver. Gottfried also figured out a unique way of attaching the stainless wire to the posts without using turnbuckles. The result was a very clean look. Gottfried designed a curved staircase to connect the 2nd floor deck to the patio. The result is fabulous and our neighbors love it. Everyone has come over to look at it. Our deck is on a downward slope and when the original deck was built it stood on 20 ft long 4 x 4. From the street below you were always looking at the bottom of the deck. Gottfried suggested installing a retaining wall to cut the height down. He designed a terraced look using decorative blocks. We are very pleased with the result. As usual Gottfried applied his German efficiency and craftsmanship to the project. It is amazing to watch him work. No BS he is always on task. He always has the right machinery for the job without having to rent equipment. Overall we are very pleased with the result and are looking forward to working with him on our next project.

Gottfried Tabert served as the general contractor and did the demolition, framing, electrical, flooring, and finish carpentry himself. He brought in subcontractors to handle the drywall and painting. It was evident that he has a good working relationship with those subcontractors - Gottfried was able to have them show up when they were needed, their work was of good quality, and it was completed in the time allotted. Gottfried was also able to work smoothly with the electrician that we brought in on our own to replace our electrical service entrance, coordinating his efforts with those of the electrician. Billing was on a time and materials basis, with us paying the subcontractors directly. Therefore, there was never any question as to whether the bills were getting paid. Gottfried worked steadily and quickly, with very little time wasted. He was proactive in bringing issues to our attention, and also in requesting our inputs when decisions had to be made. This helped keep the project moving along, avoiding down time. He was also up front about things that we could do ourselves. He was more than willing to do these things, but pointed out that it was our decision as to whether we wanted to spend our time doing it or our money to have him do it. He provided access to an interior designer who was invaluable with her eye for color and access to material suppliers for the countertops and kitchen dand eacute;cor items that we chose. He also provided a reference for a roofing contractor that was able to work with our desire for installation of skylights as part of a roof replacement. All in all, we are pleased with the way the remodel turned out. It has enabled us to ‘buy our own house’, living in a new place without the hassle of moving.

Let him help with design and color. He is very good at that.

Gottfried was a referral from a work colleague and he exceeded all of our expectations from start to finsh. From our first meeting, during which I described a laundry list of upgrades/updates that we wanted to make on our house, Gottfried was a pleasure to work with. He was polite, curious and genuinely invested in understanding why we wanted to do certain things, providing suggestions on how to accomplish our desires in a cost-efficient manner, with resale in mind and a true sense of style. We plan to use Axis Custom Builders to complete a kitchen and master bathroom upgrade in 2012!

I was thoroughly impressed with his demeanor and response.He always showed up on time, completed the project ahead of time and left no mess. Gottfried is awesome!! He is so punctual that you could set your watch when you hear his truck. He is one of the most efficent persons I know. We started with a remodel of our kitchen and family room. We were so pleased with the result that we had him design a new deck and patio for us. He came up with a great concept using Iron Wood for the deck and he screwed down the boards from underneath so we have a smooth surface. For the stairs he came up with a curved concept with 2 landings part way up. At the bottom he redid our paito using pavers. It is unique and everyone loves it. We then had him remodel our guest bath and once again he exceeded our expectations. We are now going to use him to remodel our master bathroom in January. I have heard horror stories from people about their remodels. They go on forever and way over budget. Not so with Gottfried. Everything went as close to plan as possible and we are very pleased with the result. He referred him to two other people and they are also pleased.
