Our small business had an absolutely terrible customer service experience dealing with Village Lighting, I would recommend avoiding them at all costs. We were verbally quoted around $100, and a one week turnaround to rewire 13 lamps. When Village Lighting finally fixed the lamps, one week late (twice as long as quoted) we were told that the charge would be nearly $500, or 5 times what we were initially quoted. When we said that was not what we agreed to, the staff and owner were unprofessional (said that they laughed at us, provided contradictory statements, ignored questions about reasonable business practices) and were 100% unwilling to compromise. When we offered to pay for the lamps they refused to take a credit card payment for fear of losing the transaction to a chargeback, and made us wait 30 minutes while they processed a business check from a local business. We had to pay the fee to complete our project on time, and as a result our only recourse is to take them to small claims court, file a formal complaint with the BBB, and the State Attorney General. I would recommend that you do not do business with this company. Even if this was an honest mistake rather than outright fraud, they are unwilling to provide good customer service. If you do choose to do business with them, I would highly recommend getting anything in writing up front, as a good faith estimate from this company will be treated as anything but.

My wife and I visited Village Lighting during the first week of January 2014 to purchase a hallway light fixture. After selecting the fixture we were told none were locally available but could be ordered from California and be delivered by a set date. We purchased and paid for the fixture with the understanding the unit would be shipped and arrive in Bellingham within a week. One week later when we heard nothing from the store we followed up and were told the fixture was never shipped; we were then told Village Lighting would follow up and call us when the light arrived . One month later we receive a call from the store asking us to pick up our (now late) order; our son picked up the light was asked to pay an additional $15 shipping charge which we were never told about? Upon my calling the store to find our why we were charged for a late shipment the clerk placed me on the owners voicemail....to date now one has explained what happened. While I prefer to buy locally from family owned stores, this experience is far below the service we receive from Lowes or Home depot.

Village Lighting did a good job. They sell lamps and they fix them too. I like that. The fix what they sell. It's a one-stop service.
