When we started working with Glenn, we were living and working in Sacramento. His on-the ground help in lining up and managing the septic experts needed to complete work on the septic system was tremendously helpful in our efforts to obtain the permits we needed to move forward on construction. The house construction presented a few challenges, which he handled thoughtfully and with great care. Extensive excavation was needed to find the bedrock on which the foundation could then be constructed. We also had decided to install a geothermal heating system, as well as solar panels and a radiant heating throughout the house. Glenn helped us through the process of finding the right contractors to do this work, and then worked carefully with the contractors to help us ensure that we have a reliable, working system. We were concerned throughout the project on costs, and Glenn was our active partner in helping to keep a lid on costs. For example, he was very helpful in finding quality alternatives to some of the higher subcontractor or material bids we received throughout the project. (We ultimately spent more on the house than we had planned, but that was due to the extensive excavation required, and decisions we made on more expensive options, such as the geothermal heating.) Glenn's work on the many, many built-in elements are what help make the house so special: the wood trim moldings, the stairs and mixed wood and wrought iron bannister, the furniture-quality bookcases and china cabinet, the wine cellar, the fireplace mantels -- really exquisite work. When we were planning the house, both my husband and I were involved with the process. But during the construction, my husband's work meant that he didn't have the time to devote to the many, many decisions required to finish the work. So I worked with Glenn on those details, everything from paint colors to cabinet heights to shelving for the master closet, down to hooks and towel rods in the bathrooms. He was terrific throughout the entire process, even in those regrettable circumstances where I made a bad call, and then had to ask him to please fix my mistakes. He was patience personified, gracious and helpful throughout the process. He kept saying, "It's your house, and we want you to be happy." And we are -- we love the house. Glenn Cribbs is not just a darn good builder, not just a skilled craftsman. He brings honesty and a high degree of integrity to his work. We feel lucky to have worked with him.
