After interviewing three different agents, I selected Doug to sell my house. I was impressed with his professionalism, down to earth approach to selling my home, his helpful suggestions for preparing my house for sale, and his punctual responses to my phone calls, emails, and text messages. He has stayed in touch with me during the process, and I am sure that when it's time to work with a buyer to negotiate price and other details, he will work hard to ensure that all the important details are covered and help to make the sale worry-free. I'd certainly recommend him to anyone who is planning to buy or sell a home in the Whatcom county area.
Description of Work: Doug is the listing agent on the home I have for sale in Whatcom county.

We are in our 60's and have bought/lived-in/sold 5 homes, and have used probably 10 or more different real estate agents throughout our lives. Since having to close my practice in 2007, that building had sat vacant and apparently unsaleable despite efforts of 3 different agents over the course of nearly 7 years - 7 years of property taxes, utilities, insurance and maintenance. Our accountant asked if we would consider meeting one more agent that he was impressed with, gave me Doug's number, and I called him that afternoon. That same day, Doug met me at the property, did a walk-through, and gave me a list of things to do that would improve the marketing of the property. He also gave me names and contact information for contractors who could "put the finishing touches" on the property. The property was then strongly marketed, shown often, and subsequently sold for the best offer we were given. Doug then switched gears, starting the 1031 exchange process in motion while helping us to locate and secure a property for us to use as a rental, advising us on what to look for, what to reject (and why), "good" areas and "bad" areas, etc. He had no problem whatsoever with frequent questions from us, using telephone, texts, emails, and a number of times "I was just nearby so I thought I'd stop in." kinds of contacts. This meant that he worked in Lynden where my office was sold, Everson where we live, Bellingham where the property was bought and his office is, and all over Whatcom and Skagit counties where we looked at homes together. The office property sold in early December 2013. Later that same month, we located a home to buy (already rented). Doug arranged our walk-through, home inspection, and negotiated a price significantly lower than what was being asked. He sat with us through the 1031 exchange and title exchange process, has provided us with superior rental agreement forms to use when the current lease expires, along with suggestions for some structural changes that will improve the quality for the next renters as well as the security of our investment. Our previous experiences with buying and selling homes has been as stressful as one would imagine, when . dealing with what amounts to be the largest financial investment one has. This experience was significantly different due to the manner Doug operates; we found him to be consistently professional, always clear in his communications (he will tell you what you need to hear, rather than what you want to hear), innovative in his ideas, and without fail available when one needs to speak with him. On top of everything else, Doug is just one of those genuinely nice guys. We would and probably will use him in the future, and would recommend him to others without hesitation.
