install smart lock.
Description of Work: OK. Tech was very personable. Got the smart lock installed. Was unable to replace handle due to missing part from manufacturer. I do most of my on installations. Seems like there was a lot of time wasted. The reason for the 4 stars.

Response from Mr. Handyman of SE Bellevue
Hi [Member Name Removed], Thank you for letting Mr Handyman help you with your door lock set install. I am unsure why the rating is less than an A but we will call and follow up to ensure that we have provided proper services on your project. I was told by the technician that the door lock set that you ordered was missing the proper parts so we were not able to complete a proper install. Once the parts come in give us a call and we can get the latch install completed.

They were great overall. We had to reposition where we wanted our curtains to go and he was very patient about it and said it wasn't a problem. He was just a nice guy all around.
Description of Work: They came out and installed some curtains, and put knobs and pulls on cabinets and drawers in the laundry room.

I worked directly with Terry, who was friendly and professional. I also dealt with Bob and Danielle over the phone and both were also a great help. I do not know the cost, as the bill was picked up by the glass company.
Description of Work: Mr. Handyman's services were requested by a glass company on our behalf. While installing two glass panes over our dining area, the glass installer dented our gutter beyond repair. Terry at Mr. Handyman assessed the area and determined what type of gutter we had and how to replace it. Within a few days, he had a new gutter installed and the house looking great.
It went fabulous. He was very professional. He came to the house on time and he was pleasant and quick. He did the work efficiently and didn't stop working. He also showed me how to do some things myself as well.
Description of Work: He came out and did a number of things for me such as yard work, painting, shower work and power washing.

I was given an estimate of $248.00 for their base cost -just for coming out. They estimated that it could take longer than 2 hours to fix because these "can be very tricky." Each additional hour would be charged at $94.00/hr plus material cost and taxes and they expected it would take from 2-3 or 3-4 hours to complete the job. The earliest they could come out was July 22nd (I called on 7/16). I thought this was outrageously high so I looked in the Mercer Island phone book and found another Handyman listed who came out the next morning at 9:00, fixed the door in 20 minutes and charged me $30.00. I find Mr. Handyman of Bellevue overpriced and perhaps a "little full of themselves."
Description of Work: I needed a person to come out and fix a pocket door on which the top roller had come off its track.

FIRST LET ME SAY THANK YOU FOR CONTACTING MR. HANDYMAN. WE ARE NOT TRYING TO COMPETE WITH YOUR NEIGHBOR SO IF YOU CAN GET HIM TO DO THIS JOB IT SUGGESTS YOU HAVE SOME GREAT NEIGHBORS. WE VERY OFTEN SCHEDULE POCKET DOOR REPAIRS FOR 3 TO 4 HOURS BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT IT FREQUENTLY TAKES TO MAKE COMPLETE AND PERMANENT REPAIRS. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT WE GUARANTEE THE REPAIR WHICH IS MORE THAN JUST SNAPPING THE DOOR BACK ONTO THE TRACK. IF THE REASON THE DOOR FELL OFF THE TRACK IN THE FIRST PLACE IS NOT FULLY CORRECTED THEN WE WOULD BE BACK IN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME REPAIRING IT AGAIN AND THIS TIME THE WORK WOULD BE FREE OF CHARGE. OUR PRICING IS NOT DESIGNED TO BE THE LOWEST PRICE IN THE AREA. IT IS DESIGNED TO ALLOW US TO PROVIDE THE BEST VALUE. WE DON’T PROVIDE THESE VALUES ON JUST A FEW JOBS. WE PROVIDE THEM FOR EVERY JOB WE DO AND OUR OFFICE DOES 40 TO 60 JOBS PER WEEK. OUR PRIMARY OBJECTIVE IS TO DO A GREAT JOB FOR EACH AND EVERY CUSTOMER BECAUSE WE WANT TO BE THEIR PREFERRED HOME REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE COMPANY. $30 DOESN’T COVER THE GAS MUCH LESS THE COSTS OF FULL SERVICE. FOR OUR MINIMUM PRICE WE PROVIDE 2 FULL HOURS OF SERVICE. IF THE PROJECT IS COMPLETED PROPERLY IN 30 MINUTES, WE OFFER TO DO SOMETHING ELSE TO FILL THE TIME. WE WANT EVERY CUSTOMER TO GET THEIR MONIES WORTH AS THIS IS WHAT KEEPS THEM CALLING US BACK OVER AND OVER AGAIN. 45% OF OUR CURRENT WORK LOAD IS REPEAT AND REFERRAL CUSTOMERS. ANGIE’S LIST CUSTOMERS GET A $25 COUPON OFF OF EACH VISIT SO THE ACTUAL PRICE IS LOWER.
The workman did exactly what I asked him to do. He needed some extra plywood for the repair and I sent him to the local hardware store where he purchased the right stuff. His work was neat and of good quality. There was additional work that needed to be done, but I was lacking the parts. I will complete it -- we made certain I knew what I needed to do once the parts were in.
Description of Work: I needed to move an electric pet door from my garage door to an exterior wall and to patch the garage door.
From handling our first phone call (thanks, Danielle) to completing the job, everyone we've dealt with has been very professional. In this case, a sub contractor was brought in to do the concrete pour; all of the work completed in a very timely manner (two days).
Description of Work: Although we started with phone calls to contractors listed under Concrete - Pouring and Repair we were unable to receive any success; phone calls were never returned. In September of 2007 we had used Mr. Handyman (from your list) for a project that needed done; we were so impressed then that we decided to start with them. One phone call later, Bob was here and we talked about the projects needing done. He was very professional, at the same time offering several ideas to help lower the cost of the projects and still achieve the results we wanted (we discussed budget and limit we wanted to spend). He scheduled our job to start on Monday, June 9, completing everything on the list within two days. The work we had completed: pressure washed old concrete walkway from street level to house. Completed forms and had concrete poured for ADA ramp from the driveway to the front door of the house. Completed foundation work for a small patio area on the apartment (located on the property).

Company rep was 25 minutes late to the scheduled start time; however, he did a nice job and was very courteous.
Description of Work: Installed new track lighting in area that had fluorescent lighting involving rerouting wiring; two simple ceiling light replacements.
The employee arrived a few minutes prior to the arranged start time and listened to what I needed done. He had all of the necessary tools with him to accomplish the job, I provide him shim's I had already purchased. He provided grout of a similar color to fill in 2 small spaces he had cleaned out to install the door casing. He spent quite a few minutes leveling the door and testing it to make sure it worked properly. We were quite happy with the results and later when I purchased and install the latch it all fit properly. He was able to work around my 2 dogs, although I did take them out of the area for their safety.
Description of Work: Removed old pre-hung door and installed a new pre-hung door between the house and garage. Removed old grout on flooring tile and re-grouted after installing the new door. Shimmed and leveled the pre-hung door prior to nailing in the door.

Was advised worker would be at our home at 8 a.m. and on the stroke of 8:00 a.m. he was there. Although we had purchased some of the supplies that were needed, we did not purchase enough. When Mr. Hjermstad took his lunch break, he drove to the hardware store and picked up the remaining supplies he needed. Although they had scheduled the work for two days, he completed it on the first day. Very neatly cleaned up when he was finished.
Description of Work: Put a metal roof on a small (twelve foot by sixteen foot) hobby shop. Mr. Hjermstad cleaned the existing moss and plugged all rodent holes. Hung metal panels, leaving a gutter edge. Neatly cleaned the area after the work was completed.

The handyman came out to do the work while I was at work. I had someone at the house let him in and make sure he was clear on what work was to be done. In addition, I left a VERY detailed list of the items I wanted completed. He did not strip the bathroom door, just painted over. You can see lines from the paint underneath. The grout was cleaned using a basic grout cleaner you buy at a hardware store (he even had my boyfriend go get it, since he wasn't prepared). The grout looked no cleaner than before he did his work. He re-caulked, but didn't remove the old caulk first. I could still see mold underneath. I was unhappy with the work. I called, and they promptly scheduled a time for a different handyman to come out and redo the work. I made sure I was there the entire time. This guy was great. He spent hours redoing the caulk and cleaning the grout. Overall, I was satisfied with the service, but not as much with the actual work. I would hire someone else next time.
Description of Work: I asked for my bathroom cupboards and bathroom door to be stripped and repainted. I wanted all grout in two bathrooms and the kitchen to be cleaned and sealed. I wanted all appropriate areas in all those rooms re-caulked.

They were very efficient and they also gave me very good service. They did the job very quickly and it was high quality work. I also like the price that they charge me. I will use them in any near future.
Description of Work: They provided the service of patching some holes that were in the walls of my house. They also fixed a wooden cabinet door because it was broken.
They have done many small things around my house and I have always had very good experiences with them. I like them because they are competent, they always give me a fair estimate and if there's something wrong they come back and fix it.
Description of Work: They replaced a damaged piece of wood in my deck and did some plumbing on my outside water faucets that were leaking.
I called on Thursday or Friday and was scheduled for the following Tuesday (after Labor Day). Brad arrived between 8:30 and 9:00 as promised. I showed him the baseboard that I had selected from McLendon's, and he measured the room to figure the amount needed. Brad then went to McLendon's and picked up the materials and returned. He set up his saw on my deck and cut the baseboards out there, when he was finished, he put away the saw and swept off the deck. He went to work on installing. When I came back into the room, they looked great, corners, seams, everything. He painted with the paint I provided and my brush and did a really exact job. He noticed that I had a bunch of outlets in the room and asked me if I wanted to have him install them. It took about another hour or so, but that project is now finished as well. Overall it was a good experience.
Description of Work: Had flooring installed by another company, needed baseboards purchased, cut, caulked and painted in a 12'x15' room and adjoining 5'x6' closet. Additionally, while the tech was here, he replaced 5 ivory outlets and 4 ivory switches with white ones.

They are polite and responsive and complete the work on time and on budget. Their workmanship is outstanding. They clean up their mess each day and dispose of all trash. I was disappointed he could not install the paddle fan, but understood his reluctance because of the electric complexity of the installation that included a remote controlled fan and light in the same fixture. As far as the exhaust fans were concerned, I have been in the attic numerous times and I knew I wasn't about to try installing them myself. It gets too hot up there, up and down stairs to the garage to turn on and off is not my way of enjoyment.
Description of Work: Called to install a ceiling paddle fan and 5 ceiling exhaust fans. Started on 1st fan and saw it had electric confusion and recommended another electric company. He was not happy with the electric work. The exhaust fans; we asked him to check what we have and buy suitable replacements at a home improvement store. He did that and installed them. All were larger than those he replaced. Old fans were from 1983 and they don't come that small any more. He did this all the same day. There was considerable enlarging of the openings that had to be done from above in the attic which is reached by a ladder and removing the panel covering the the entry. He closed doors where appropriate to keep dirt and dust contained and cleaned up afterword.

I got a call a few minutes before the Handyman was supposed to come and he said that he was a few minutes late. I appreciated that because I was staying home from work until he got there to access the situation. He arrived, looked at the door and wasn't sure if he could fix it without going threw the wall. But he said that if he went threw the wall it would just be a small rectangle opening. He said he would call me at work with the good or bad news. In 1 1/2 hours he called and said that he was done and was able to fix the door without going threw the wall. He was very professional. Very responsive. And very thorough. The door is fixed and working great and no holes in the wall. I would definitely use Mr. Handyman again and will.
Description of Work: My pocket door was jammed and was not moving. I had been told by other people that I would have to cut threw the wall and put new runners in.
Amazingly. I had called several floor people and handymen to see if they could fix an unexpected hole before a new dishwasher was to be delivered in 6 days. Other places were scheduled out until January. Misty the receptionist was very understanding and found some time in one of the employees schedule so that they were able to come the very same day! Jon was wonderful, very kind to my 2 1/2 year old, and very professional. Other than the price, I couldn't be happier that I called them.
Description of Work: Fixed a hole in the floor and then because they charge a two hour minimum, I had him fix our bathroom faucet, some faulty closet doors, our table. He was done quickly, very professional, and very comfortable to be around. Because he left a earlier than the 2 hours, he comped the materials used so I just had to pay for work minimum and travel cost ($40 dollars, $88 dollars per hour, 2 hour minimum.)

My first experience with this company was not great (worker was too slow and at $80+/hour plus travel time, it seemed extremely overpriced.) Still with limited choices I gave them another try, got another handyman and it was great. Still costly, but he worked quickly and clearly knew what he was doing. He didn't have to waste time reading directions. Also planned ahead based on task list I gave them so he had supplies and did not have to make a trip at my expense to purchase materials.
Description of Work: Lots of small fix-it tasks around the house plus moving some furniture, replacing kitchen counter tiles and grout, installing dimmer switches.

MR. HANDYMAN WAS ABLE TO COME TO OUR HOUSE THE VERY DAY I CALLED. I CALLED ABOUT 5 COMPANIES FROM THE PHONE BOOK AND LEFT MESSAGES, AND MR. HANDYMAN WAS THE FIRST TO CALL ME BACK AND HAD AN APPOINTMENT THE SAME DAY. MY JOB WAS FAIRLY EASY, SOME TRIM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ON THE GARAGE DOOR AND THEY FIXED IT IN 2 HOURS, PLUS PAINTED SOME AREAS THAT NEEDED TOUCH-UP. I WAS SO PLEASED THAT WE ARE NOW TALKING TO THEM ABOUT FIXING OUR FRENCH DOORS THIS SUMMER.
Description of Work: MR. HANDYMAN FIXED AND REPLACED THE SIDING AND TRIM ON OUR GARAGE DOORS. THEY ALSO PAINTED THE TRIM.
