I had collected many rare coins over the years, mostly from family. I am not a collector, so had no idea of their value. I went to Bellevue Rare Coins and was immediately helped. The guy I dealt with was able to evaluate all of my coins. Since I am not a collector, I have no idea whether the evaluation was fair or not, but the assessor did take his time with me, looked up many of the coins in a coin book and was able to tell me what coins would not be of any value, except for face value. I felt no pressure during this interaction to sell to him. Generally, I felt I had a positive experience.

I know local stores, being middlemen, won't offer as much as selling directly to another consumer, but the whole idea (for me anyway) of the locals is to get quick cash if needed. However, "quick cash" to me is not worth hundreds of dollars less or long waits for no purpose because only one guy in a coin store can do coin grading. Bottom line: Go there is you must, but for me it is 3 strikes and they are out.
Description of Work: I heard about West Seattle Coins and this sister location, Bellevue Rare Coins, on the radio. (They have been blitzing the advertising space around Seattle ever since gold prices got above $1200). Their radio ad claimed they always pay the highest prices for rare coins, gold, and silver. It didn't pan out that way for me, after 3 visits: Visit 1: Brought in some gold bullion for sale. Their quote was OK, but I got more from another coin shop in the area. Visit 2: Brought in a collectible gold coin from the 1800's. I thought this coin would have numismatic value as well as bullion value. Again, their purchase quote was below other shops. I ended up selling the coin on eBay for hundreds more than quoted. Visit 3: Brought in a collectible silver coin -- an 1834 half dollar. Although 3 employees were standing around, none could give me an estimate -- they just told me it looked nice and in great condition. They said "Ryan", the store owner, had to do the grading and to come back in half an hour. Visit 3.5: Came back in half an hour. Ryan was supposedly "at lunch" and would return soon. After twenty minutes of waiting (again with 3-4 employees in the store doing little or nothing) I asked one to call Ryan and see what he was up to. He called -- now Ryan was at home! I left and again will put the coin on eBay.
