John is nothing short of magnificent! A real Mozart of an Electrician. John and his son JC work well together and get the job done quick and are very flexible with your schedule. He is a seasoned electrician and thus can bid every job at a firm fixed price. If he can't, he won't bid it. THAT is what I like about John. I found him here on Angies list back in 2012 and he will be my electrician for as long as he works. Hopefully his son JC will continue the great work the two of them do and I will never have to find another electrician as long as I live. John bids a fair price and does great work. So glad I met him. Keep up the great work John! (and tell your dad we LOVE his smoked Salmon!!!).
Description of Work: Various work (install outlet in fireplace for a gas fire insert, installed above the range microwave outlet, install microwave, move a range outlet, installed all new light fixtures in whole house (is a flipper house), installed 6 canned lights and a dimmer switch, installed all new switches and outlets, installed new fart fan in bathroom (none existed before), installed new outside light by garage).

John was able to quickly trouble shoot and fix a troublesome electrical issue that had been previously been attempted by another electrical service (but they were unable to find/fix it - after having spent considerable money on non-effective attempts to locate and fix the issue). While chatting, I discovered that John was able to accomplish carpenter repairs so I used him to replace the fascia boards that a previous contractor was supposed to have fixed, but who had not accomplished the work. Overall, John was excellent and efficient in completing the repairs. I'm grateful to have found him.
Description of Work: fixed an intermittent electrical problem, replaced fascia board trim, repaired rotted door jamb

I cannot tell you enough how happy I am with my experience that I had with Royston Electric. This Father-Son duo did a fantastic job install my new 220v outlet for my dryer. They came out one evening to take measurements and inventory of what they would need and then came back the next day to complete the job. They should up early, and where in and out in less than an hour. They installed it exactly how I asked and were even willing to work around the mess of boxes in the garage due to our recent move in. I would highly recommend them to anyone. They were the best priced and where straight up in their pricing.

John was awesome. My project consisted of installing a bathroom fan with a timer, adding and controlling a patio light via switch, installing a motion activated light and rewiring a couple outlets. I received a number of bids some were extremely overpriced, and some were close to John’s but I decided to go with John instead for a few reasons… 1) He was willing to work around my schedule to the best of his ability. (Estimate was scheduled later in the afternoon to allow me to get home and settle a bit after work) 2) Knew exactly what the issue was with the outlets and didn’t charge a diagnostic fee when he already knew how to fix (completed in about 15 minutes) 3) Communication. John was easy to get a hold of and he actually showed up when he said he would. I felt comfortable asking any questions (This is critical because when I was requesting estimates I had 2 no shows and a couple electricians weren’t clearly communicating their scope of work) The project was completed as expected. Everything works and looks great! John definitely knows what he is doing. I would not hesitate to recommend or use him for future electrical work.

John Royston (like many small businesses) fell victim to the economy. Now he's a one man show. So here is what you get:1. A MASTER electrician at a low cost (not much overhead when it is a company of one).2. Over 30 YEARS of experience (again, at a low cost). 3. A True Craftsman (not just out to churn and turn a job for a quick buck, he obviously loves what he does and takes great pride in his work). 4. The one who is giving you a bid is the one who is doing the work. Often times you get estimators that are excellent orators. That's right, they are salesmen. What I like about Royston Electric is that HE is the one doing the work. You get HIS expertise and not some kid he hired to do the job. 5. John is honest. 6. John is fair. Based on the six points I made above, I will not go to anyone else for my electrical needs. Now THAT is impressive. I negotiate contracts for a living so I am an EXPERT in contractor judgement. John is the real deal. A craftsman who is a master of his trade at a fair and reasonable price. You don't often get the two together. With John you do. I feel lucky that I found such an electrician.
Description of Work: Installed Generator interlock switch in panel, installed regular (GFCI) outside outlet, moved two light switches in bedroom and installed the Generator outlet in the BACK of my house (it took about 50 foot of 10 gauge cord and he had to belly crawl under my house to do it). Also installed whole house surge protector (I bought it at Home Depot (Leviton for $50) and he installed it).

I called Jon and asked him to come over and give me an estimate for the work. Originally I was asking him to install a 200 amp breaker, but he told me that I really didn't need it, that my breaker box could be upgraded to meet my needs, and that this would be much cheaper. His estimate was reasonable and when I asked him when he could get started; he said tomorrow. I wanted to get more than one estimate, but Jon was the first to respond and since he had done some work on my fathers house, see my earlier review, he had preference. By the time the 2 other companies responded to give me estimates Jon had already started working. Any electrical work I need done in the future Jon will be the first person I call.
Description of Work: I just bought a house and called Jon Royston of Royston Electric to make some upgrades. Jon did the following: Installed 1 new light in kitchen, 1 fan/light combo in bathroom, upgrade 100 amp service to 125, installed new circuit for treadmill, GFCI for backyard, grounded my breaker box to the earth, install ceiling fan, replaced 20 power outlets, wired outlet for 2 wall sconces, installed power outlet and light socket under house, broke up the lighting arrangement so the kitchen switch contolled only the lights in the kitchen (and not the ones in the living room)and installed another switch for the living room lights, and seperated the bathrrom/hall circuit, so i could turn them on seperatley. Jon is a great guy, friendly, hard working, timely, and always gave friendly advice to what might be best to meet my needs.

Everything went perfect. He really knew what he was doing.
Description of Work: I have, very ancient, low voltage wiring and my outside light automatically comes on whenever there is any movement outside. There was no light working on the exterior of my house. It took him a lot of time trying to figure out which electric box to use for the repair. I have many electrical boxes in my house. He had to drill under the house to access the box. It took him two whole days to complete the work. He worked two evenings on this.

He did a good job. I liked him. The price was good. It was a very good deal. The previous guy that I had dumped wanted to charge me $225 and he hadn't even looked at the problem. So I asked him that how could he charge me that amount without even knowing what the problem is, and I found it kind of ridiculous. I told him that it could be even a small wire that is disconnected and how can he expect me to pay $225 for that. Royston Electric made the appointment and he came on time. He came and had a look at the problem and then he called me to let me know what it was going to cost. Then I gave him the okay to go ahead and do it. So he did it and that was it. He was pleasant and responsible. That's what I was looking for. I look for the same things in everyone whom I hire. I look for people who are responsible and respectful, and not act like I don't know what I'm doing. They should know how to treat their customers. I would probably use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Royston Electric. I last used his services sometime in the month of March. He did some electrical work in the bathroom.

The name of the owner is John Royston. He is a contractor and he is excellent. I had used him before and he was so good that I used him again. I called him; he came out the next day and took care of the work within half an hour. He is very reasonably priced and he is a very nice gentleman. So many people have marked him down in Angie's list because he doesn't show up with the panel truck and he doesn't use the uniform. He has been absolutely superb and he was a hard worker. He is a very busy person but comes out immediately if I have any electrical work to be done.

Stopped at home when he said he would and provided a written estimate the next day by e-mail. Of the four electriciams I called he was the 2nd in price, but when at my house he seemed to take a professional interest in learning what my goals were so that the could suggest other ways to complete the job. John Royston is an experienced electrician whose shop is down because of the ecomomy to himself and his part time son. Once we settled on a date to fit in his schedule and mine, he was there on time and completed the job as agreed. He was plesant and hard working. He and his son cleaned the garage quickly, and tested all connections. I would hire John Royston again.

Overall it went very well. John was very responsive. He responded to my orginal inquiry very quickly given that it was a holiday. He was local so he stopped by (on the holiday) to see if it was a job he could since it involved the septic system. He took a look at the situation and was able to fix the problem the same day. Not to mention John was very freindly and professional. I would definately recommend John and Royston Electric to a friend.

Excellent! John arrived and looked over the work. He had to crawl under the house, fish wires through the walls, and deal with studs in the walls that weren't where they were supposed to be (original construction of our home was odd, to say the least). John handled everything with his usual levelheadedness, and got the job done. It took longer than estimated, but John stuck to his original price with no questions! I have recommended him to all our neighbors!
Description of Work: John was both punctual and very kind. He made suggestions regarding the work needed, and codes that should be followed. He came in, moved one outlet and re-wired/ran two new outlets, a wall switch and and outside light for me. I could care less about a uniform, etc. - I want a pro who knows his business. John is #1 in my book!

He showed up for the original estimate, the day he said he would. A couple of hours later than expected, but good electricians are busy around here these days. His price came in toward the lower middle of the range, that I received from other electricians. I gave him the job, because he seemed as experienced and as professional, as any electrician that I spoke to about this job. He sent an employee to do the job. That worked out fine. I was very happy with the end result. The new panel looks and works perfectly. It passed inspection by a old hard nosed, no mercy, kind of inspector the first time he looked at the job. I will use this electrician again, without calling anyone else.
Description of Work: I had my old obsolete and undersized circuit breaker panel replaced by a larger and safer panel. I also had my electric meter moved from the front of the house, around to the side of the house.

As with any high quality profession, he is in high demand, but returns calls promptly and follows through on his word.
