Horrible. Run far, run fast from this builder. They make a lot of mistakes, some will cost the homeowner huge amounts of money. We bought our home, signed the paperwork, picked samples at this office location. House was built in Auburn, which we also visited to choose millwork, doors, cabinets, etc. BTW, it should have been a red flag that the Auburn office is so moldy I couldn't breath in there and just turned around and walked out. We had to meet at Starbucks. Other buildings in their 'complex' of 2 or 3 are non-moldy. The vapor barrier they left out in our home has caused me to become ill again from mold exposure. Mold sickness, Biotoxin Illness is hard to recover from. At any rate, Armstrong neglected to install a vapor barrier which caused mold to grow between the walls. Armstrong never came out to investigate the problem, but instead told my husband to do it. We ended up hiring many professionals to identify mold species, remove all exterior sheetrock walls, remove insulation, remediate mold throughout the house, then a different contractor to rebuild our new Armstrong home. What a nightmare. And Armstrong doesn't care. They knew I lived in a 10 x 10 dry cabin (no elec, water, bathroom or kitchen) for 2 months after we had to evacuate the $1200 a month condo. They don't care. We are requesting repayment of the cost to test, remediate and rebuild our new home, from Armstrong Homes totaling 53,700. We are fortunate, our first bid from the local contractor was 70k but he was able to save the quartz counter tops and a few other things to bring the cost down. This does not include the cost of living somewhere else while our house was uninhabitable. Bottom line, don't trust them with your money or you new home. Go to a reputable builder. Oh and here are a list of some of the other issues: 1) we ordered a charcoal color roof, they installed a green roof. 2) forgot to pour cement pads for the stairs, so the stairs go into dirt 3) used rotten wood as support near the fireplace, looked like termite damage 4) did not use specified brand of paint, but substituted a cheaper brand 5) let the house set untouched for up to 3 weeks while building. No one showed up 6) But for all the mistakes the made, the worst one is; they neglected to install a vapor barrier. We had mold growing between the walls. The house had to be gutted and rebuilt on the inside, and of course remediated. Armstrong would not even come and look at the problem. They stalled for months. We didn't have a home to live in and had to rent a condo and hire a different builder to repair our house. With the testing for mold that Armstrong demanded, remediation by Servpro and the other builder to rebuild, we are 53,700 out of pocket. Armstrong does not care.
Description of Work: We hired Armstrong to build our new home.

At every turn we were disappointed. A number of questions relative to our needs in the design were never brought up as they should have been by an established design/build firm. During the build process we realized our project was being managed by a Forman that was incompetent and uncaring. When we contacted the owner to address these issues we were assured it would all be taken care of......it wasn't. We had a custom home built some years before for us and if that contractor had still been in business we would have used him as he was professional and made the entire experience a pleasure, so we know what it can be like. Construction was late (not weather related) at every step, the whole job was treated as fill in work. I handled the property preparation, well, septic, power and numerous permits. All they had to do was have materials and qualified people on-site to perform the work, they were not willing or able to pull that off. We have had them back for warranty work, that was done as badly as everything else. We very much do not recommend Armstrong Homes!
Description of Work: Design & General Contractor for new home. My wife and I had sketched up what we wanted in a new home and were looking for an established builder to engineer our plans for building. We found Armstrong homes had been in business for many years and felt that would be an indication of their professionalism.
