Luckily I did my 'due diligence' and asked for quotes from 3 other dealer/ installers. I asked each to visit the premises and recommend the best equipment for the size of the house. One of the other dealers, examined my existing furnace and said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with it that a good cleaning would not cure. (I had been paying Dead River for cleaning and maintenance for several years. ) So I asked him to do a thorough cleaning and tune up the furnace. The upshot was a $700 bill for cleaning the furnace and the ducts, rather than a $7000 bill for a new furnace. After I brought this series of events to the attention of the Dead River General manager, he refunded my maintenance fee for 2 years and, as had I severed my relationship with Dead River, agreed to provide me with a new propane tank, as the one at my home was owned by Dead River. The next fall, their driver showed up when I was not at home and topped off my oil tank. I informed the Company that I was under no obligation to pay for the oil as I was no longer their customer. They agreed, but a couple of weeks later the Propane truck driver came to fill that tank. I told him that I was no longer a customer, and he did not fill the tank. At the very best, this company has very poor quality control and internal communications. At the worst, some of their actions could be interpreted as fraudulent. If I had just accepted their word and had them replace the furnace, I would have never known that I had a perfectly good furnace already installed in my home.
Description of Work: As a fuel oil customer, I had a service agreement with Dead River on my 12 year old Williamson Furnace. I was out of town when it came time for my annual furnace cleaning. I received a call from Dead River saying that my furnace "needed replacement due to a hole in the heat exchanger. That it was lucky that I was not at home as they would have been forced to shut it down, but that they could have a new furnace in place and operating before my return." They gave me an estimate for installation of the new furnace and removal of the old one.

They are a really good plumbing and heating company. They are usually right on time and they do really good work. They pretty much do any plumbing and heating work. They are the only ones we use and we priced around. They are reasonably priced. We have done 4 or 5 jobs with them. They are always professional and we will definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: We used Dead River Company to install some tanks.

The showroom is nice with adequate display models on the floor. The sales staff was helpful but not pushy. The dishwasher arrived slightly behind schedule, which Dead River said was due to their supplier. Installation went as expected. However when the installers left, we noticed the dishwasher door panel hung noticeably crooked. I called Dead River and sent photos. After some discussion, they agreed to send installers over to check it out "next time they were in the area." The installers came by and said they noticed some of the display models on their floor had crooked doors, so as far as they were concerned, that was normal. I ended up calling Miele. Miele told me Dead River are not certified Miele technicians (they are certified as installers only). Miele sent out their own technician to take a look. He was helpful and said the door is a known design issue which hasn't been resolved, but doesn't interfere with functionality. He gave me the option of returning the dishwasher, but I chose to keep it. One important detail. The Miele technician told us that the Dead River installers had forgotten to tighten the door, an important part of the installation. The door "slammed down" when you opened it -- a safety risk for small children. The Miele technician tightened the door for us. He asked us to call Dead River and notify them of the error, so they wouldn't repeat it with the next customer. When I called Dead River to let them know, the manager got defensive. That was disappointing. On the positive side, there were no hard-sales tactics, and no "hidden charges." Therefore I'd give Dead River an A for sales honesty, a low-B for willingness/ability to deal with issues after the purchase is complete, and a B for product quality. I think that's fairly good for an appliance store.
Description of Work: Purchased Miele dishwasher, and installation service. We paid "full retail price" listed on manufacturer's website, and an additional $200-plus for installation.
