"I booked the team for a deep cleaning. The team was very nice on the phone and responsive. After booking, however, I received no confirmation emails or communication whatsoever. I called and emailed the day before and did not hear back. The day of the appointment I was called and told that the owner had been sick and that the tech scheduled was sick too. They did offer to come the following day which was nice but I had skipped work already to be there. Nice folks that lack professional execution. I can?t comment on how they clean. "

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

Asbestos is a carcinogen, meaning it increases the risk of cancer. Inhaling asbestos fibers is linked to several respiratory issues, including asbestosis, or scarring on the lungs, lung cancer, and mesothelioma, another type of cancer. There's also a link between asbestos exposure and an increased risk of colon cancer and other cancers of the digestive system.

Usually, the people most at risk for disease related to asbestos exposure are those who spend a lot of time working around the material without protection. Electricians who work with asbestos wire have a higher risk of developing mesothelioma or lung cancer due to their exposure.

You are not really supposed to seal asbestos with paint, but in theory it could work—the caveat being that this is extremely dangerous and should be avoided at all costs. The only real way to seal asbestos is with the professional application of an encapsulating material like epoxy. Due to the negative effect asbestos can have on your home, however, it is usually the best course of action to accept a costly fix and remove the material entirely.

If present, abatement action, including removal, sealing, or enclosure, should be planned per local regulations. Proper consultation with a professional is key.

If asbestos is present, professionals provide recommendations for safe removal or containment. Follow local regulations for handling.

Scraping off asbestos siding is extremely dangerous. When asbestos is inert, it does not pose a risk, but once disturbed, the fibers enter the air that you breathe and can cause irreparable damage. Professionals may scrape it off, but they will have more protective equipment and specialized tools that most homeowners do not have on hand.
