Brown Masonry Co Inc

Firstly, I wanted to say that there are a number of family members and locations for this business throughout VT and NH. I have entered the headquarters which is in Perkinsville VT. There is a second office in that town and I don't know which was responsible. I was allotted $17k for a fireplace to be built in my new home. I asked the mason to build a Rumford style. For more info on what that is go to http://www.rumford.com/index.htm It is an old design which is for reflecting the majority of the heat out into the room. I was charged an extra $4k for this request. However the contract merely stated $4k added on and not what it was for. When I first used the fireplace I was displeased with the performance as it took more heat up the chimney than if there was no fire. I examined the fireplace construction as others did and found that, in fact, it was not a rumford design. I called brown masonry and was told that all fireplaces are very inefficient and I should use a woodstove if I want any heat. I then called the home builder (Crown Point of Ludlow VT) who had subcontracted the work and was told "Do you want us to tear it down and rebuild it"? After speaking to my lawyer I was told that since the contract did not specify what the extra $4k was for, I had no legal recourse. Therefore, this is my only recourse and I thank Angie's list for the opportunity.
