Description of Work: Generally good work. Once they were on site they were fast and efficient. Good quality. I had a difficult time nailing down service times a bit.

Needing to replace an old shingle roof, and wanting it to happen promptly before installation of new solar panels on the south side, I called Shingle City because I had talked with the owner at several home shows and been favorably impressed. I perhaps should mention that the summer before, I had solicited three estimates, but other expenses had clobbered my budget and I'd decided to hold off one year. One of those three bids had been from Shingle City, after a site visit and detailed conversation and their estimate had been thousands of dollars below one of the others. When I phoned Shingle City the following year, they agreed to honor the previous bid (hooray!) and did a prompt site re-visit. I signed a contract and made a deposit; they turned up right on our agreed schedule, the minute spring weather permitted. The work--removal of old shingles, laying of roofing paper and especially that special anti-ice dam covering (Water & Ice?), installation of new shingles (color and type preselected by me) and flashing, and final thorough cleanup--was completed within a few days. The installers were unfailingly polite and professional. The only glitches had to do with some confusion about the treatment of a roof window on one side, resolved without difficulty, and a junior moment on the part of one young installer, who left a gap between plywood underlayment and roof windowtop uncovered just long enough for a bunch of roof litter to slide through into the room beneath (took just a little vacuuming to correct). In the ensuing nine months, the roof has easily withstood torrential rain, two-foot snow pile-ups, and 85-mph winds, with no signs of leakage or shingle loss, so I'm pretty confident that the job has been done well.
Description of Work: Replacement of a shingle main roof and small addition roof, including removal of all debris.

The roof was replaced in the fall of 2007, a few weeks after we received the estimate. Originally, we were satisfied, until it started leaking about a month later. The company was very responsive and came and attempted to fix the leak almost immediately. I say "attempted" because in the spring/summer we noticed it was still leaking. We started calling Shingle City in early July, I think, and it took over a month of calling to get them to come out again. At that time (early August), we were told that it would have been best to replace the adjoining roof at the same time as the garage roof last year to ensure there would be no leaking (we were not told this originally). We said that we would like the other roof done too, then. The company said they'd give us an estimate for the new roof and for the "repair." In our minds there was no repair, it was really correcting a job that wasn't done well in the first place. After all of August passed, and we had heard nothing, we decided to call every Monday until we got a response. Finally, in the middle of October we got to talk to the owner who gave us the estimate, and we agreed to have the work done. He said they were running behind, but would put us on the schedule. By early November water was really coming through the roof and into the garage and the sun room. When we called again, they said they'd try to be over to fix it that week. That was two weeks ago, and we've never seen them. We have decided to stop dealing with them and have found someone else.
Description of Work: We had the garage roof replaced because it was leaking.
