I signed a contract for him to redo three rooms into a kitchen. After spending $13000.00 on cabinets, I found that could get no guarantee service from the distributor because Wood had not paid him. Wood would not provide the guarantee service saying it was up to the distributor. The distributor refused to speak with me until Wood paid him. I have no clue if the payment was ever paid by him. I had the candcelled check for the $13000.00 I paid the contractor for my cabinets but the distributor did not care and continued to refuse to speak with me. I was caught in the middle between the two. As a contractor Wood should have made sure that all accounts were cleared so that I could have the guarantee upheld. Instead all he would say was that he wasn't going to pay the distributor until he made another kitchen (his son's) right. Unprofessional.

By him doing this the way he does, as stated, your priority is to finish the project on your own or hire another contractor. Thereby purposely depleting your financial resources so that your ability to pursue him legally is greatly limited. The lack of building codes and lack of mandatory contractor licenses in Vermont, make it extremely difficult to pursue him legally and he can, through considerable experience, knows how to hire an attorney and play tit for tat plus reducing the ability and likelihood that you will ever be able to pursue him to the full extent that the law would permit. Mr. Wood is currently and has been for the last 3 months doing business under the radar without using his company name. He prints generic ads listing only the office manager s name (Debbie). The line of Harvest Homes panelized home packages, his son, James Wood, makes it appears as now the franchisees for Harvest home packages in this area. He specifically preys on clients that are from out of the area. He appears to be professional on the surface, but in fact he is a professional crook. These cases fall under civil law, but not under criminal law, and therefore are much, much harder to prove because they come under he said, she said.
Description of Work: This company is a builder of Harvest Homes, Skyline mobile homes, modular homes and custom panelized home packages. Mr. Wood promises anything and everything that you ask for. He fails, or simply refuses, to specifically note everything in the contract that he writes with the client. His reasoning for not doing so is that "I have been doing this for many years. I know exactly want you want, you know what you want, we have agreed upon it. I will deliver it". His actual contracts with clients are very vague and generalized. Once the project has started, he will state to you that Oh no, you took that out". By leaving his contract vague, it allows him the flexibility to claim to you, the client, that "This is something new and was not planned for and therefore isn't included." There is always a reason to add more services and fees for services that should have been included in the first place. He does this so suddenly and under radar that it leaves you, the client, to believe and accept his story. He is quite the salesman! I have uncovered in my personal experience with him a tremendous amount of fraud, inconsistent, irregular, and grossly substandard instruction technique (although he does know how to do it correctly, he chooses not to, based on the client he is working with at the time). His entire process from promotion to inception and delivery is an orchestrated fraud. With the premise in mind that he is going to increase all the numbers in all ways that he can in comparison to contract that you have. When you do catch him in a lie or an irregular accounting procedure, he becomes very much the bully and very passive aggressive. His accounting procedures on a monthly basis are irregular. There is no consistency in the way in which he presents the monthly statement to his client. He knows how to work the court system, as well as lawyers in the state of Vermont based on his time in the business and immense number of lawsuits that have been filed against him. His motive for apperandi as stated above typically results in him walking off your job, leaving it unfinished thereby forcing you, the client, to be forced to finish the work yourself or hire someone else to do it for you. More often that not, you are forced to redo work that you have already paid him to do, to make it correct. Your priority is in making your project habitable.
