Original estimate was $2000 (ballpark figure) with an understanding that unknown factors might drive up the price a bit. After completing about 2/3 of the work, Ron called to say that he was way over budget at $2600. He asked whether he should continue; he was told that one cannot stop a project (barn conversion for horse stalls) in the middle, and that we would have to deal with the overrun afterwards. When asked how much the rest would be, he said $1000 (for a 8-inch thick, 19-foot long slap about 30s wide). After 90 minutes of prep and more concrete, the final bill was just shy of $4000. And he demanded payment in full the next morning without specifying terms on his invoice. When he came the next day, he was told that there were many questions about his undetailed invoice and since there were no terms, it was not due immediately. He was told that his invoice would be honored. He was irate and used vile language. Ultimately, before being thrown off the property, he threatened to kill our horses. We are now attempting to find a solution with him.
