We hired Jeremy Stacey to redo our kitchen. We knew what we wanted from the beginning. We signed the contract in Sept. and the work was supposed to begin in Oct. It didn't because of circumstances on both our parts. The work finally began on Friday, Nov. 5th. He tore out the old cabinets and peninsula including the sink and tore up the old floor. Then left for 3 days. We found out he didn't work on weekends-and then that Monday, something came up. The new floor started going in that Wednesday. (Tuesday was spent going to Home Depot to choose the flooring. We didn't know we were going to have to get a new floor until we saw what was underneath the old floor.) Once the new floor was in, it was beautiful. We don't have any complaints about the new floor. But then things started to go bad. When we first hired Jeremy, we were under the impression that he was starting to build the new cabinets-in fact, we paid him quite a bit up front so he could buy the materials to get started. He even asked us to get him the new stove hood so he could have it ready when it came time to put it in. That was NEVER done. Half way through doing the floor, he said that Home Depot could build the cabinets cheaper than he could. So, we went back to Home Depot and had them build one set of cabinets for us. Then it was time to renegotiate the contract since he did not make those cabinets and Home Depot did. He wanted to just subtract what we paid Home Depot. We told him no because he said that Home Depot could make them cheaper than he could and that we will pay him only to install them which he finally agreed to. Then it came time to rebuild the peninsula. We were thinking about going with Home Depot to build it but they were asking a lot for it (special order) and we had already paid Jeremy quite a bit already to do it. After we made our decision to have Jeremy build it, he insisted that we pay him the rest of what we owed him. That was our mistake because after we paid him, he disappeared for a week. From the start, he only seemed to show up a couple of days a week. All this time, we didn't have our kitchen and it was Thanksgiving. When we finally got him to come and do the work (Nov. 30th), we discovered that Jeremy had no idea how to do the peninsula and we figured it out for him-with material that we bought even though we originally paid him for materials. So, he slapped it together-didn't bother to put the wood that had print stamped on it so that side wouldn't be seen. We didn't get a couple of drawers that were supposed to be there-only shelves. And the shelves are very flimsy. The doors were not put together very well. The screws from the hardware are sticking through so when we open the doors, we have to be careful not stick ourselves. One door scrapes against the new floor. He made the peninsula a fraction too short so our dishwasher doesn't fit quite right. He did not give the existing shelves a second coat of paint that they need. (In fact, he missed two shelves in the first place that we painted.) He also didn't sand the old counter that we had asked him to do since he first started this project. Now (Dec. 16th), our kitchen is supposed to be "done" but yet, there is a lot of work that we will be doing ourselves. Sometime in the near future, the entire peninsula has to be redone.
