Description of Work: Replaced my roof (tore off old asphalt shingle, replaced with new -standing seam). Ended up being much more expensive because all sheathing needed to be replaced (which I half expected, and advice to replace sheathing was warranted). They did an excellent job overall - workmanship was generally high quality with a few minor exceptions. Main complaint was that they did not advise me of the need to replace siding on a sidewall after the roof and related sidewall flashing were installed - I figured this out later after doing some research.

Found them hard to reach by phone. Person who does the estimates did not return call right off when person who answered call said it would be returned that day. Few days later arranged to meet at home and called me at last moment saying could not make it at planned time. Gave me a verbal estimate at my home after walking around house with me. Estimate was about 1/3 higher than everyone else. In fairness to their approach they were the only roofer who said they would do the job by removing the vinyl siding where first floor roof meets the main two story house wall to re-flash the edge and completely re-lead the chimney flashing. (Obtained four other local estimates who did not do this and prior replacement roof did not. Have never had any leaks or bad plywood concerns.) When leaving after the verbal estimate did tell me was going to give me a written proposal with shingle brand/type etc. via email in few days. Never received an email. Did not give job to them based on highest price, nonresponsive written proposal, and unusual approach to performing the job. As a footnote, do see their Trucks around doing a number of commercial roofing jobs, e.g. local new Marina building and Office/Retail building.
Description of Work: Provided estimate to replace home roof. Bid scope consisted of removing old roof and metal drip edges/valleys and to recommend & install new shingles, drip edges, valley treatment, underlayment, ice/water shield, and ridge vents.

I have a roof from h***. Previous owners added on to the house in a bizarre way, so the roof is very complicated. I had this company work on the roof 11 years ago!!. There were problems ( like torrential rains while they were working and red squirrels in my roof), but these guys were top notch and responded immediately. Haven't had any problems with my roof, so I guess that is proof in itself.

Description of Work: I used this company in 2003. They reroofed my house and provided other carpentry services, which were excellent. We had a disagreement regarding the installation of flashing at the eaves, which was not provided. The contractor provided a credit and agreed to address it if we had a problem with roof leaks; he provided a 5 year guarantee. He did respond to my complaints but never fully addressed the problem. I have had leaks and am now looking to another contractor for correction.

Consumer Construction is a funny company. They do excellent work, but their scheduling, callback and calendar is variable, perhaps due to construction delays or other booking preferences they control. I have had 3 large roofing projects done by them, they are expensive and I probably should have gotten more quotes from other companies. My last project replaced a large slate roof over two separate seasons (one side, then the other) and the total came to about $40K. Two skylights were added late in the contract, and I wound up doing a good amount work myself (interior finish). An unused chimney was contracted to be topped off in metal, but they forgot and I did not know this until a huge rainstorm brought water down the chimney, doing about $700 in interior wall damage, which they disavowed any responsibility for, nor fixed. They did later add the metal cap, begrudgingly. The slate job required adding 6 rows of red slate in the middle of a gray field pattern to match the previous design. Oddly, they brought, trimmed and stacked all the reds on the roof, only installed two rows, then packed them all out, probably to another job. I actually do recommend Consumer Construction to anyone who knows how to write a dense, thorough contract, then get the final job inspected and make your last payment contingent on getting everything you ordered, when you expected it to be done. Assigning penalties to dates missed would be wise with this company, but they probably would not sign a contract with these stipulations against them. Then again, if you don't have a tight time schedule, this company would be a reasonable recommendation.
Description of Work: Removed slate roof, installed new OSB sheathing over old decking, added 100% IKO ice/water barrier, installed Galvalume raised seam ice dam along drip edges, added all new Vermont slate.

They broke out a price and we thought it was fair and we did not find anybody who had even close to their expertise. They are absolutely topnotch. They clean up everyday after they leave. I did complain because they left a lot of old lumber in a place that was inconvenient to us and it took a couple of days to get rid of it but they finally did. They put a dumpster there and everyday they are careful to make everything neat around the yard. They do not leave trash. They are always polite and nice. They are just a joy to have around. I talked to the foreman about that. He said that is one of the things he is a stickler about, that they get along well together and that they respect the people who own the house. He said he does not want people to be locking their doors when these guys come around to work. They have an A plus rating from the Business Bureau and I also checked with the city building office and I found out that they are in compliance with them.
Description of Work: We are currently using the services of Consumer Construction Inc for roofing and a lot of carpentry. They have been here for three weeks. They are not just doing roofing, they are actually extending the roof at about a foot all the way around the house. There are a lot of gables that they had to do the same thing. It is a complicated job. It is not a very straightforward roof at all. We got them from Angie's List.
