FOREST GREEN CONSTRUCTION

Shawn, the owner came out to the site and performed a very detailed inspection of the property before giving us his bid. After recieving several other bids, we decided that his price was very fair, and awarded the contract for our work to Shawn and his company, Forest Green. They started the work promptly. Early on, we discovered some structural problems during our demoltion phase, which caused the project to exceed his original estimate, but the price of their change orders remained reasonable. Our real problems began as the project wound down. The contractor had a very long list of punchlist items that were installed incorrectly or incompletely that Shawn repeatedly promised to come back and fix at no charge. Shawn basically disappeared off the face of the planet and stopped returning calls. Every few weeks we would get a call back from him and he would tell us that he would be on site "this week" to finish everything up, except time after time he wouldn't show up. He always had a different excuse- his car broke, his friend died, his other friend died, another friend's son died, his car broke again, his partner shot himself in the foot with a nail gun, another friend died. Eventually, 5 months later he came out for 2 days and fixed about half his punchlist, but he seemed much more interested in being given new work to do. Once he realized that we weren't going to hire him for any new work, he was gone again. punchlist still half unfinished. When we finally got him on the phone, he claimed that since our contract with him was for time and material, he felt that we should pay him to fix items that he installed wrong the first time, which we found to be ridiculous and contrary to all industry standards. Further calls to Shawn have not been returned. At the end of the day, his price was reasonable, the quality of the work was for the most part decent, but when you spend over $100,000, you expect to have everything finished, not 90% finished. If you want to have a contractor that sticks to his word and sees a project through to completion, look elsewhere.
