+ -1 moreExcellent. The first treatment was last fall, followed by aerating and seeding. I now have grass growing and its looking great. Their results far exceeded a previous company I used for an entire year. Very happy with the results so far and with my technician.

Description of Work: Grass Roots had aerated and reseeded my lawn in September and the new grass was looking great. Following the removal of several trees by another company the new grass was destroyed.

+ 0 moreWe have been using Grass Roots to manage our lawn for the past year. We are very satisfied with quality of the work being done by Kyle Washington, the technician who comes to our home. We have had Kyle from the beginning which gives me confidence that there is continuity in the care of our lawn. We are very pleased with Grass Roots prompt response when we call for additional services. The staff is very professional. They call to alert you when they are coming and check to see if that time works for you. We couldn’t be more pleased.

+ -1 moreThese guys are great. They know their stuff and use the information from the Virginia Tech Agricultural recommendations for this area to get it right. When they are working, you won't know they are there. That said, they always knock on the door to let you know they are going to do a treatment and to answer any questions you might have. If you aren't home they leave a note saying what they have done and any precautions they might have for the application. Simple.
Description of Work: We have our yard and garden fertilized, treated for weeds and insects and each year have it aerated and reseeded.

+ -1 moreThe grass began to grow after seeding but kept getting worse. They must just throw the same thing on your yard that they do for everyone even if you need something different because I always had weeds and lots of brown, burned up looking grass. Ashley did respond in the beginning to my emails, but never remedied the issue, and then didn't answer my email. Instead, he sent my account to a collection agency. So, I spent about $400 for bad service and he is sending a collection for 2 services and wouldn't address my situation. I joined Angie's list after I hired him. I so wish I had joined first since I see now that they do not have a very good rating. I am someone who always pays my bills and a very reasonable person. I would not ever use their services again. Lesson learned, I guess.

Description of Work: Grassroots came out and performed aeration, seeding w/ a winter grass mixture and fertilization in our yard. During our estimate Craig was great in explaining what the options were and what would work best for our soil. Have contracted with them to make our lawn look great all year round.

+ -1 moreIt is a local company, and I like them a lot. They are prompt and treat me very well. They are pretty good and give me a lot of information and feedback. They used to do my seeding but they were high on seeding, so I have another company to do the lawn work. They come as many times a year as they say they are going to come. They don't give me prior notification but just show up, which is fine with me. They do come at appropriate times of the year and explain what they are fertilizing and why, which is nice; it is all on a little document they give me. I have a contract with them, and the price is a little lower compared to another provider. I pay them automatically. If I pay them annually, they will give me a bit of a price break too. I would rate them highly and would continue to use them in the future.

Description of Work: Started using Grass Roots for both lawn and plant fertilization/weed/bug control 3 years. Unfortunetly service has steadily gotten worse, cost has streadily risen($650/yr for lawn and plant service to over $1000/yr) and now I've cancelled the service altogether. I've lost more plants since using their service then when I performed the care myself. I hired their service to help take care of the lawn and plants, but they're always too busy to notice if a plant is dying right in front of them!Twice we discovered a deasise/fungus on plants in the yard, when asked about it Grass Roots replied they'd go and check it out only to confirm "Yes it has a disease and is dead"...no explanation why they didn't notice the dead/dying plant when they were at the property less than a week earlier in both instances. For the lawn we had a trouble spot near our front tree they've never been able to retify, but they always charged us for fertilzing the dead spot in the lawn, they simply don't care! If your looking for a company to blindly put down down chemicals they may be ok, but if you'd like a company that actually wants to "help" you take care of your lawn and plants, don't bother calling Grass Roots, they only care about the $$$.

+ -1 moreUsed this company for over 2 years with no resulting benefit. Although it was a very hot summer, we have more weeds, bald spots, and bad growth areas than we had when we hired them. Only once did they provide some feedback concerning progress, but the results were not satisfactory. There was no apparent follow-up on the discussion. That is, no special or out-of-cycle treatments to solve the problems.
Description of Work: Fertilization, weed, insect treatments. Lime, aeration, and seeding.

+ -1 moreThese people were real nice and they knew how to plant grass that grew and looked good. They were always willing to speak with me about what my yard needed and they were very knowledgeable and very capable. We have a yearly service agreement and I would recommend them.
Description of Work: They sowed grass seed, fertilized the yard and pulled the weeds. They pull weeds once a month and they fertilize and seed twice a year.
