My family and I needed to add on wheelchair assessable bathroom for my grandfather who was retired in the military. We went through the VA who referred us to use Custom Designs’ services. The process took longer than expected. Although the finished product looked beautiful inside, a year later there are foundational issues. We now have a big crack in the wall and the door they installed leading outside with a deck is no longer closing all the way. This imposes a risk of anyone trying to break in. We’ve called them several times and have gotten no response. When we did get a response someone said they would come and check it out and never showed. We are looking to take legal action and filing a complaint with the better Business Bureau. It has been months now and still no response. Please do your research before hiring them as contractors because the customer service and quality of work is very poor and frustrating.

Wonderfully. I couldn't have asked for a better contractor to work with. There weren't too may delays and all work was performed with professionalism.

Horrible!!!From the start there was problems,when kitchen remodel was started and existing lights removed,no thought was given to provide temporary lighting,I had to purchase my own lighting,when existing walls were removed electrical system was left in an unsafe manner possibly subjecting me to an electrical shock,I had to provide electrical tape to contractors workers to cover bare electrical wires,workers had no cleaning supplies I had to provide dust pan,brooms and shop vac,my shop vac ended up disappearing and was continually told it would be replaced,three weeks later one of the contractors workers dropped it off,when cabinets in kitchen were installed one was hung crooked,I was told when a filler panel was installed you would not notice cabinet being crooked,after several complaints cabinet was rehung straight,wrong cabinet was hung which was shorter than what was ordered and was tried to be talked in to accepting that cabinet cabinet was replaced with proper cabinet,cabinets were misplaced in contractors warehouse causing more delays,wall in half bath that was installed was so crooked my granite backsplash stuck off the wall 1/2"!!!!When wood floors were being installed I came home and noticed there was no vapor barrier extending from under where wood floor was stopped had contractor remove wood floor and extend vapor barrier properly,after wood floors where installed and finished I came home and was mad!!!!The floors looked horrible swirl marks in finish,grit and debris in finish,contractor had started putting shoe moulding on as is the floors were acceptable,I did not go into work the next day and waited for contractor to arrive,worker said you are about the floor,contacted contractors office and told them floor was unacceptable and needed to be redone,floor was refinished by another flooring contractor,and was great within a month my new wood floors were buckling in my foyer,contacted flooring installer who refinished my floors and who has provided expert testimony to homeowners for improper wood floor installation litigation.after inspecting areas of new wood floor that were raising up determined by use of magnets there were insufficient or no nails anchoring wood floor to subfloor,after repeated calls to contractor to make temporary repair to my floor so my wife would not trip over hump in floor,contractor and flooring installer arrived at my house.Flooring reinspected improperly installed floor and result verified by contractor,moister content of subfloor was checked after wood floor was removed and was elevated,there was hole in subfloor that had not been repaired and vapor barrier did not extend to wall,contractors flooring installer never checked for moister content levels in sub floor or check to see if content was within flooring manufacturers guidelines,as a result contractor had to pay to remove and replace installed wood floors,I asked if contractor would reimburse my hotel bill due to relocation due to redoing of my wood floors and was told contractor had spent enough on my floors and would not pay any more as if it was my fault for replacing wood floors,Most of wood trim installed by contractor were stained and had runs,There was paint on door case work, when pointed out to contractor he stated that according to building standards this was within acceptable guidelines.When we went to contractors office to pay final bill,contractor tried to charge me for a mirror and toilet we purchased,The job ended as it started, sloppy, laden with mistakes!!!!!!!!!!!

The weather delayed things a little at times. Adding a hinge to the lid of the bench was delayed, but was finished satisfactorily eventually. Overall we were very pleased with the work. All the workers were very friendly and cooperative. We really like our small deck. It is well made and perfect for our needs.

we started with the kitchen, it went so well that we asked Tony to do a few more things...He was wonderful. His crew members were always pleasant and professional, honest, hardworking guys. We enjoyed meeting them.

They told me they were going to come out and look at the problem but they never did. He came out once and he told he's going to get back with me. We called them and they said they would call us back but they never did call us back. The work was for a home improvement. They were okay once they came out. It was for general contracting and home improvement.

I am extremely pleased with them and I would highly recommend them.

We were interested in upgrading the vanity from a 1 sink to a 2 sink and moving our shower and bathtub in order to create a larger shower. Mr. Collins was going to install new tile floor, and a new corner tile shower. Two windows were to be replaced with vinyl windows in the shower area and a 6 foot tub would be installed and the corner garden tub would be removed. He was eager to show me the designs and we set up a date but the receptionist didn't tell him so the first visit he was not there to discuss the plans. He called me later and was able to meet with me and went over the design which was very appealing until we got to the cost of $32,800. I felt that was way too high and more than I would spend on a car and I surely wasn't going to proceed. He gave me 5 days for the contract to be valid which I found absurd that for a ticket price that high that I would only be given under a week for the price to still be valid. Personally I feel that he should have listened to our budget and tried to work within the 20K but that was not the case and so he lost our business. At this point I am proceeding with a kitchen remodel with new cabinets, granite countertop, and tile floor for less than 18k so I guess it pays to shop around.

Initially Tony Collins met us in our home to see the existing facilities, listen to our desires and brainstormed with us. After only a week we met him at his office where he presented us the details of the renovation plans and cost for the kitchen and master bath renovation. His insight and ideas complemented our goals for each of the renovations and we felt the cost was fair based on the quality of products used and work that was performed He assisted us in every step of the renovation, even going so far as to meet us at stores to select appliances, tiles and paint. His customer service and care was tremendous. The construction crew, especially lead man Tim Muller and assist Travis Johnson, were always on time, courteous and very professional. Both of them took the time to explain each step of the renovation and answer all of our question. The crew was very careful to protect our home, and cleaned up every day to keep our home comfortable for us to live in, while construction was going on. Their work ethic, expertise and attention to detail ensured a quality renovation. Tony Collins has a superb group of subcontractors working for him. Everyone was very professional, polite and trustworthy. Tim Muller did an outstanding job coordinating and overseeing all of the work done by the subcontractors. The new kitchen and master bath look and operate magnificently. Tony was always available whenever we had questions or needed him to fit us into his schedule and he would frequently stop by to check on the progress of the renovation. The entire experience with Custom Design Works, Inc. was outstanding and we strongly recommend Tony Collins and Custom Design Works for any project you may have.

I called their office on the 13th to inquire about the status of the estimate and was told that the message would be forwarded. I got a call back stating that they were waiting on pricing from their supplier and I sgould have the estimate in a few days. I got the estimate on the 19th and was floored at how much more it was over the other 2. It was nearly 5x that of the lowest estimate. We ended up hiring thecontractor with the lowest estimate and are extremely happy with the work.

Received a fair quote for the installation of a small sunroom. Their salesman, Skip, was wonderful. Felt very good working with him throughout the process, as he was knowledgeable, courteous, eager to please and kept us informed at all times. A true professional. I have delayed writing this review, as I wanted to be sure there would be no hiccups after the fact with the sunroom, as they are known to leak. 4 months later and no leaks. My only concern was the amount of time between installation and completion. We contracted the installation in July and the room was not complete until November. As this was more a material delay issue, We will not fault them for this. However we are very pleased with the quality of the workmanship, the professionalism of the contractors, and the materials themselves. Everyone was thorough, punctual, and honored every requests. The two Dave's were true, respectful craftsmen and fantastic! We would definitely use Tony and his team again as they were all great! UPDATE - June 2013 Had a small Leak in the flooring of the Sunroom. Not a big deal, as it was just an error in placement of the down gutter and caulking. Contacted CDW's and within three days, the leak was repaired, with no problem. They were very concerned that I was happy, which I was. Although I believe they may be bit more pricey than some, they do stand by their work. You get what you pay for!

We contacted Custom Design Works ("CDW") via e-mail, sending a photo of the existing structure, providing rough dimensions, and a general idea of what we wanted. We inquired whether they were interested in building an addition for us. (Two other companies were also contacted in the same way -- one didn't bother to respond and the other responded in a half-hearted way that proceeded no further. Earlier attempts to engage builders resulted in little interest. Perhaps the job was considered too small or too remote.) Tony, the owner of CDW responded quickly to our e-mail, made an early appointment to visit us, and appeared at the appointed time. He spent time getting to know us and our house, listened closely to what we wanted, floated some ideas of his own (which were better than what we had in mind), and told us he would have plans for us "soon." "Soon" was an understatement -- he moved quickly to put together plans that we loved. After we gave CDW the contract,Tony and his staff worked closely with both the county and our HOA to ensure that all permits and inspections were promptly secured. During the remodel process, certain problems with our home were uncovered. The lead carpenter took the time to show us the problems and causes and how these would be remedied in the new construction. Information as to what was happening and why was shared throughout the project. We are pleased with the final product and would not hesitate to recommend CDW to our friends and neighbors..

I was most impressed with the subcontractors. They were all people you were happy to welcome into your home. The finish carpenter and the tile people were so good that we are using Custom Design Works for another project that is now underway (porch enclosure). Tony and his staff are people you are glad to be working with. He came and inspected the work of the subcontractors and made sure all was done to perfection.

Initial visit to the main office was a great experience. We were able to pick cabinets, flooring, appliances and accessories.Contractor immediately drafted plans and submitted them for our review/approval. Existing patio and roof was carefully removed. Patio flooring was saved for later use.Contracting crew was attentive and helped us understand the demolition process. All workers were on time and very professional throughout each phase of the project.Final touches of project included placement of original patio flooring on the outside for a beautiful accented walkway. They let use know when each phase was to begin and end.

Having considered 3 companies, we decided that Tony Collins' ideas and design stood out as the best and they excited us from the start. As work progressed, some minor needed repairs were found and were taken care of quickly and professionally; the crew truly went "above and beyond" to be sure that the house would be in good shape when the project was done. Similarly, significant water damage and mold were found in the kitchen and at an air duct, These were repaired promptly and properly at a fair price. Throughout the project, all staff were prompt, professional, hard working and courteous. They took great pride in their work too--they ensured that the work was done right and we appreciated that pride and attention to detail. There were absolutely no "horror" stories that some people experience. The house is now much more open, bright and accessible--just what we wanted. We could not have been more pleased with the results!

They have done our house for the years. I liked the quality of their work, quality of their contractors, sub-contractors, attention to detail and their primary lead man was truly outstanding. You get what you paid for so their price was fine. I would recommend them to anyone.

We met with the owner at Custom Design. He then came to our home, and we discussed options and price range. We decided to use this contractor and were given a window of time for completion of work. There were two separate crews. Both of these crews were professional and courteous, at all times. They willingly answered questions and responded to concerns. Unfortunately, a hurricane occurred resulting in delaying the anticipated completion date. Overall, our new entryway is very nice. We have received many compliments on the design.
