 + 0 moreInitial consult and estimate was detailed and explained all the inner-workings of our chimney and the issues found. We set up a follow up date for the work to be completed about 2 weeks later. The crew arrived and did a complete overhaul of our flue system and left us with a brand new chimney system! They cleaned up when they were finished and we are enjoying a fire in our fireplace now! Would recommend the Chimney Doctor to anyone who asks!

 + 1 moreMy wife and I bought the house recently and the furnace was not venting as well as it should have. Victor, the owner of the company, came out to do the estimate and he turned out to be the lowest-priced responsible contractor. Victor came to do the work himself and was honest, his team was neat (zero mess). Originally, he was not planning to remove the terra cotta liner but the liner would not fit in without removal of the old liner. There was no additional charge for that. The chimney is now repaired, the furnace is venting properly, and there is now a cap. Thanks!
Description of Work: Company repaired damaged (spalling) bricks on my chimney, removed terra cotta liner and replaced with an insulated, stainless steel liner, and put on a chimney cap.

 + -1 moreI called in early November to schedule a cleaning for the fireplace and was given an appointment for November 30, 2013. When I called to confirm the day before, Elizabeth informed me that they had to move the appointment and that they tried calling me at my home number and left a message. I never received phone call and if I had not called to confirm I would have never know that they moved the appointment. Elizabeth was very rude and said well it is our busy season. With treatment like this chimney doctors you won't have a busy season, get your act together for Customer Service.

 + 0 moreI found his company on Angie's List and based on the reviews, I gave them a call to schedule an appointment to either fix our existing (but non-working) fireplace damper or replace it. They gave me their earliest appointment which was the following Friday. They also gave me a 3 hour window and arrived within that timeframe. Three men arrived and they were all polite and professional. Robert came to the door first, introduced himself, and handed me his business card. He covered his shoes before entering the house. He inspected our old damper and suggested that replacing it was the best long-term solution. (Our house was built in 1963, so I had already discussed options when I was on the phone with the company setting up the initial appointment. They brought a new top damper system with them - just in case we did decide to replace our old damper.) While they were removing the old damper and installing the new one, they also inspected and cleaned our chimney. The work was completed in a little over an hour, and they did a great job of covering their shoes while in the house and laying down tarps to catch any dust. There was very little mess, but they cleaned up the work area very well anyway. They were also very good at explaining the new damper system and it's energy efficiency vs. the old system that we had (which was drafty). I would definitely hire them again! - They were quite knowledgeable and professional. Thank you!

Their price was reasonable and they give honest estimates. They did great work. There were two people that came out to do the work and it took about an hour and half to complete.

 + -1 moreWe recently had some really heavy rains and noticed that we had rain water coming down the chimney. we scheduled an appointment with the company. Mr. Robert Uda came by had a look at the chimney, gave us an estimate and we scheduled a day and time which would work for us. We are new home owners and never had a house with a fireplace so he was very nice and gave us some suggestions on how to maintain the fireplace. I think it was really nice of him to give us these little extra tips. They came by on the scheduled day, repaired the chimney and it looks good. I would definitely hire them again.

 + -1 moreWhen I called to get an estimate to replace my chase cover, an appointment was made for the sweep to come look at our chimney chase cover 4 days later on Sep. 13. The sweep, Robert, arrived on time & explained what he was going to look at on the chimney as well as take a photo to show me once he had completed measuring the cover & evaluating the cap & storm collar. In approximately 15 minutes, Robert was finished & showed me the photo of a badly corroded cover. He said my cap & storm collar were still in good shape & the only thing that needed to be replaced was the chase cover. He gave me the estimate of $720.90, with a 5% discount it would be $684.85. I called 2 other companies for estimates, which were $1350 & $1450 each. So The Chimney Doctor gave by far the best quote for the exact same service. I called The Chimney Doctor & Elizabeth Zimbro ordered the new cover. When the new cover arrived at their shop, Elizabeth made an appointment for installation. Robert returned on Sep. 28 & installed the new chase cover in less than 20 minutes. Robert was very professional & he even looked at one of my gutters that was dripping without asking & just let me know that all that needed to be done was the gutter needed to be raised a little so the water wouldn't pool on that end. I would definitely use the Chimney Doctor again! Thank you, Elizabeth & Robert!

There was member of the team who communicated what was being done and explained any issues the arose. They were clean and careful in completing their work. Ultimately through consultation with them and our gas insert provider it was determined the liner did not need to be removed given it was sufficient diameter. Their patience in getting this figured out was greatly appreciated. We'd be happy to use them again.
Description of Work: We hired the provider to remove an old and very large wood stove from our fireplace as well as removing the heavy liner from a 30+ foot chimney.

 + 0 moreRyan was courteous, punctual, efficient and was extremely knowledgeable. He inspected the chimney and flashing from the roof and from inside. Afterwards he explained his findings and answered all of our questions. We weren't too surprised to learn that the chimney need work since the house was built in 1953 and last year we had an inspection done by another company and it yield similar results. Ryan quoted us for a relining with stainless steel, new crown, modification of the throat to allow for better air flow plus mortar work done in the firebox for about $2,300. I should note we have a very short and small chimney so I'm sure pricing would vary. He went over the work need step by step and was through in ensuring we knew what was included which doesn't always happen when dealing with contractors. Another benefit was he had personal knowledge of our neighborhood and the problems other with the same builds have had i.e. a terracotta/brick lining which is deteriorating. Another contractor quoted us about $5,000 and that was just for relining and a new crown. I'm glad we got Ryan and The Chimney Doctor Nova out to give us a quote. We hope to be scheduling the work soon once the govt shutdown is resolved.

To be safe, we called a couple other companies for a quote. Both the Chimney Doctor and Complete Chimney guys said the same thing: Your fireplace is absolutely fine.They saved us thousands!

 + 0 moreThe initial call was very professional and they were able to fit me in a timely maner. They had a crew of four for the day the chimney was rebuilt and finished that same day. They had to let the mortar dry but were back with in three days to clean and water proof the rest of the chimney. They did a great job cleaning up when they were finished. I guess my only complaint was the 4 individuals that rebuilt the chimney did not communicate or speak english that well. They did a great job matching the brick color. They were not the cheapest but by far they were not the most expenseive quoted I got. As a matter of fact on vendor told me I needed spot pointing and was $2,000 more. None of the other vendors including The Chimney Doctor quoted that. I even asked Richard the tech who came out to give the estimate point blank if I needed it and he said no. I am sure there are vendors out there that would have said yes since I brought it up. Overall very pleased.

 + -1 moreIt took about 25 minutes to complete a basic chimney cleaning, which consisted of sticking a vacuum suction device up the chimney. The lead guy (on a 3-person team) climbed on the roof to visually inspect the chimney. The only thing I would have liked to see done is for the lead guy to inspect the job done by the other two younger guys. There was a noticeable amount of soot remaining when I opened the damper after they had left. Sigh... One thing I appreciated is that they did not try to up-sell or claim that there was something wrong with the chimney and pressure me to purchase an unneeded expensive repair.

I called several companies and only got a response from the Chimney Doctor team - they called me back on Sunday even! They had a tech out to the house within 2 days to determine the scope of the work. The cleaning was done that first visit. Parts were ordered quickly and Ryan (the tech) was back out to complete the fix within a few days. Great responsiveness, work product, and price!

 + 0 moreConfirmed appointment the day prior & called to let me know that they would arrive earlier than expected. Arrived on time, quickly determined that the existing chimney cap (18 yrs old) could not be repaired. He did have a replacement with him, completed the work in less than 15 minutes. The replacement cost $139 installed instead of the expected $59 for repair but overall seemed very reasonable. Also provided an estimate on some maintenance work that needs to be done in the near future. I will likely call them to do the additional work needed in the near future.

 + -1 moreAt that point, we had already hired a reconstruction company, so we knew our house wasn't leaking and that the chimney company was not qualified to fix flashing. And because we had significant damage to the house as a direct result of Chimney Doctor's incompetence or negligence, I filed a complaint with the better business bureau. It went nowhere. However, our insurance company sued Chimney Doctor since its mishandling of the problem led to extensive losses by the insurance company. I find it interesting that Chimney Doctor appears to have changed its name sometime in the last couple of years. A name change is a common practice that small companies often will employ to in order to distance themselves from their prior history and/or poor business practices. And, at times, the result of a bankruptcy.
Description of Work: We noticed some water dripping inside the chimney box. So I called Chimney Doctor to look at the chimney. The rep stated that the chimney cap needed to be replaced and the flashing needed to be fixed. Fast forward two months later and it turned out that the flashing around the chimney was bad, and water had been leaking underneath our plaster-covered drywall for months. Even more important, we were advised that Chimney Doctor should have referred us to roofers to fix the flashing. Chimney companies are not qualified to fix flashing. The owner, himself, came out to look at the problem. Said their work was fine. And then told us that that our siding was leaking (our house is concrete covered with full brick and then siding), that we should have contacted them sooner (it takes months for water to seep through plaster, and we called as soon as we noticed the problem), and that they did nothing wrong. The owner emphatically stated that Chimney Doctor was qualified to fix a leak around my chimney when they immediately should have referred us to roofers. The flashing around the chimney was bad and chimney companies are not qualified to repair flashing. In fact, after we hired roofers to fix the problem and I was advised that Chimney Doctor should have referred us to roofers, I called a few highly rated chimney companies in the area. In each and every instance, the chimney companies told me the same thing: you need a roofer, since we (chimney sweeps) are not qualified to fix flashing problems.

The home inspector did an evaluation of the chimney, they identified the deficiencies in the fireplace but couldn't really elaborate on what the deficiency were so he suggested I get an expert chimney sweep so the Chimney Doctor came in. He gave me an assessment of some of the problems that the home inspector couldn't do and they offered to fix it. It was pricey so I went with someone else. I did some research and the cost was not out of line with the market so I'm not going to fault the guy for giving me the quote. I would give them an A just because I hired them for an evaluation. I thought they did a very good job of evaluating what was going on with that particular chimney. I called them up one day and they were out there a couple of days later.
