Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps

Sixpenny did a very good job cleaning the chimney and diagnosing problems with the fireplace mortar and cracks in the chimney crown.

They responded to my initial inquiry right away. Once we agreed on the services to be provided, it was very easy to get an appointment on a date/time that worked for me. They were prompt and friendly. The workers were very neat and clean and there was nothing for me to clean up when they left. The job took a little longer than expected because the duct cleaning had never been done before, but the workers kept me informed the entire time so that I wasn't surprised about the amount of time it took.

I was extremely pleased. They arrived on time and the representatives were professional, pleasant and knowledgeable. They introduced themselves, checked out the environment, described what they were going to do, and then got straight to work. When they finished, they provided clear explanations of their findings (vis a vis the fireplaces) plus advice on timing of cleaning, filter changes, etc. The charges were exactly as Carol (whom I spoke with on the phone to arrange the appointment) had described. I've had a lot of people in and out of my house in the past year; it would be a delight if everyone else had been as pleasant and professional to work with as Sixpenny. I would recommend them to anyone.

Arrived on time, got the job done in 2 hours, and left no mess behind. Two-man crew was very personable and pleasant. Wasted no time getting to work. Very professional overall. Catherine at the home office is very pleasant, thoughtful and easy to work with on the phone. She went so far as to call me when an earlier time slot opened up.

I called to get an estimate for cleaning a chimney and wood stove. They quoted a price (with the Angie's List coupon). But after they looked at the job, they said that it would be $450 and that I could not use the Angie's List coupon. I decided to get other estimates.

I called them prior to their visit and told them the size cap I needed. They said they could not give me a price on the phone, but would give the estimate upon arrival. They came with the correct cap. Upon looking at the situation, they told me the price to remove the nest, any animals and replace the wrong-sized chimney cap with the correct-sized one. After removing the old chimney cap and the nest (with babies), they found another nest inside the chimney. They cleaned an old nest from inside the chimney. Installed a new chimney cap. I also asked them to take a photo of the chimney crown and let me know if it was in good condition. They took the photo of the crown and newly installed cap and showed me that my chimney crown was in good condition, that it did not need any maintenance. They left the photo with me.

Sixpenny arrived with two crews on time and performed the work beautifully. They were efficient, clean, and quiet. No chatting on the job and no smoking. I could not be happier. They were $100 less than another company I have worked with and have a contract with for over twenty years.

I spoke to the owner of SixPenny, Franco, and he gave me a small discount on price for the work. He was professional and provided answers for all of my questions. Two gentlemen were sent to complete the cleaning of the air ducts and dryer vents. They were a half an hour late, but it didn't interfere with anything major in my day so I wasn't too annoyed, and in all fairness, I changed the time the day before. The men were professional and worked well. The project was completed in two hours. The only down side to the experience was how loud the truck was, and they had to leave it running for the duration. It was also extremely loud in the house.

Team of two arrived on time. One started sweeping the chimney while the other went up on the roof to look at the chimney. The one on the roof found a crack in the concrete crown that had previously been repaired poorly and was now leaking again. He took a Polaroid snapshot of the problem and brought it down to discuss with us. There was no pressure to have him fix it (either that day or later). He was just informing us. I mentioned that we were selling the house and he offered to give us a warranty for the work for us and the new owner. He also gave us some advice on how to make the fireplace look better for showing the house. They did a good job efficiently.

Team of two arrived on time. They came in, surveyed the job to be done, explained what they were going to be doing and then started. They spent two hours working on the vents. They did a thorough job and cleaned up the mess that came out of some of the other vents during the cleaning.

They gave us some advice on other repairs that needed to be done. They did do an excellent cleaning. I don't remember the other quotes I got, so I can't grade their price.

Everything went fine. I was able to get a Saturday appointment, which avoided my having to take time off from work. The technician (Marcos) arrived on schedule and went right to work. He and his assistant laid out a drop cloth to help keep the work area (my living room) clean. They also used an industrial strength vacuum cleaner with a special bag to vacuum the dust and debris as they were cleaning -- this process allowed them to do the job without creating a mess anywhere. During the included inspection, they noted that my chimney crowns needed to be repaired, and a few bricks needed to be replaced. They took Polaroid photos of them so I could see their condition without having to climb up on the roof. I ultimately decided to have them do the repair work on a subsequent visit.

The work was very well done! The workers were timely, courteous, and professional. They even helped prevent our cats from running away.

Great! Omar showed up within his allotted time schedule, came into my condo to inspect the dryer & turn it on, & then went outside to do the work. He returned after he was finished & patiently waited while I searched for my lost checkbook. Very polite & the price was extremely competitive (they were running a special in my area & it cost $80 less then other places!). I will be using them in 2 years when I am required to do it again.

Overall rating: Excellent. At initial estimate, Marcus took the time to explain exactly what he would be doing, and how it would be done. At the time of service, Marcus and his assistant moved furniture and other boxes out of the way, performed the work in a timely and accurate manner, and left the work area clean. Both Marcus and his assistant were very polite.

Horrible! Many difficulties with scheduling in the Gaithersburg area. Very rude employee. When I called the company several times to deal with the issues I was having with the employee in the area, they told me the owner of the company was on vacation. (Of course she was!) Worst home repair experience in the 10 years of owning my home. Back wall cracked within a month. Could not even begin to think about dealing with them anymore, so haven't used my fireplace since.

THIS COMPANY CAME OUT AND GAVE US AN ESTIMATE, TOOK PICTURES OF THE CHIMNEY, EXPLAINED WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE, AND WHY IT WAS NEEDED. THEY WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL, AND STARTED AND FINISHED ON TIME. GREAT WORK AND WE LOVE OUR FIREPLACE.

THEIR SERVICE WAS VERY GOOD. SYLVIA DID AN EXCELLENT JOB ON MY ANTIQUE FURNITURE. I PERSONALLY WOULD RECOMMEND TO OTHERS, AND IF I NEEDED SERVICE AGAIN, I WOULD CALL THEM OUT AGAIN.

THE GUYS WERE PROMPT AND EFFICIENT. TOOK PICTURES BEFORE AND AFTER, AND DID A WONDERFUL JOB. WE ARE NOW ENJOYING OUR FIREPLACE. BEFORE I HAD A GREAT CONCERN ABOUT THE CLEANLINESS AND WANTED TO BE SURE IT WAS SAFE TO USE. IT IS WONDERFUL.

THE BID WAS COMPETITIVE. THE JOB WAS FINISHED THREE DAYS EARLY. THERE WAS A MINIMUM OF CLEANUP AND MESS.
