Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps

They brought in an industrial vac and several drop cloths. They were done in less than a hour.

They were generally responsive, competent and pleasant to deal with. Their price of $125 was below about 4 other estimates ($175-$225), but they did what was required. Like almost every chimney sweeping company I have used here and elsewhere, they found something else wrong with the chimney that would be an expensive job ($2700). Just that the problem the latest company reports is never same as previous problems.

It went great. It was great from the beginning. They were very friendly from the very beginning. Came out within a week and explained everything they were doing and it was an overall great experience.

Two gentlemen arrived promptly, very courteous and careful to clean up/sweep after themselves. They did a great job and showed me the amount of debris they retrieved from the vent from the outside -- birds have been nesting apparently. The price turned out higher than the estimate as I decided to put a cap on the dryer vent to prevent future birds nesting. Also added the new hose.

George (and his assistant) did a great job cleaning (I believe for the first time-- for the house, not for George!) the ducts, vents and chimneys on our 40+ year old house. Making the appt was easy and I was given a price over the phone, they were very generous to Angie customers. They showed up 10 minutes early in the 3 hour window-- big points for that! George worked quickly and was very polite and professional. He even crawled through holly bushes to get to my dryer vent--poor guy. I called a couple of other companies and Sixpenny gave the best price over the phone, though I have coupons for much less (hence the B), they were not listed on Angie's and I wanted to use a bonafied "A" company.

Called Six Penny and phone was answered in friendly, professional manner. Appointment made at convenient time, workers called and arrived as scheduled, were courteous, did a thorough and clean job, and advised of further work that may need to be done. Will follow up.

They were very careful not to let any soot come back into the house. In regard to the dryer vent they had to suck out the clog a little at a time because it was really tight.

Phone estimate was for $125, much lower than what we had to pay. They had difficulty finding our house even though it is directly of a main road. En route, they called several times for directions. They seemed to be having difficulty reading a map.

Excellent experience. I called at 11am and they offered to come by the same day, at 1pm. They arrived promptly at 1pm, called me when they were close and came on time. They discovered upon arrival that they would need longer hoses for my townhouse. Instead of rescheduling, they called the office in Virginia and they sent over more and longer hoses immediately. They did all this in an absolutely quiet and non-intrusive way. They did a phenomenal job. They were rigorous, used high quality materials and worked quickly and efficiently. They were very polite and very professional. I will use them again.

They came out and cleaned the chimney and had an excellent price for this. They did the job quickly and were very clean. However, when it came to the inspection of the chimney they had very expensive prices as far as the repairs that they wanted to do. Because of this I would not hire them again.

Jacob and his crew arrived on-time and got right to work. They cleaned both chimneys and deodorized the wood stove fireplace. They also installed a chimney cap that had been missing and cleaned three birds nests out of that particular chimney. The crew was friendly and very professional. They worked quickly and cleaned up well after they were done.

The were very prompt and friendly when I called and gave me an appointment within a week of my call. The service techs showed up on time and also were very professional and polite. They did the work quickly and informed my of the results, to include providing a photo of the problems they found with my chimney.

They gave me an appointment soon after I called and had to reschedule a couple of times due to the weather. They did come as promised once the work was rescheduled and came back a second day to finish up. Again they (Franklin) was very professional and polite and competent.

Good. Arrived approximately on time, completed promptly and cleaned up after themselves.

I had called 3 separate vendors for 3 different types of work to be done one Monday. Six Penny was the only to call me back in a prompt manner. They gave me an estimate, and arranged to come the following Monday and gave me a 2 hour window. They came early into the window (amazing in and of itself). The process took about 2 hours. They explained the process, were extremely respectful and while the apparatus is a giant vacuum and makes noise, they didn't disturb me as I worked from home and took conference calls. They cleaned the air filter which we hadn't been able to find since moving in 3 years ago. Turns out, it was a large filter (not one of those single sheet filters you can pick up at Home Depot), and they gave me the brand and model number, even suggesting where to buy the replacement. They were able to remove vents that had the screws painted shut since before we moved in without damaging the vents or the walls. All in all, very professional.

First, the cost of cleaning our 2 bedroom condo with Six Penny was significantly lower than several other estimates that I received. I was immediately impressed when I called to set up the appointment because I was told what to expect from start to finish on the day of service. The two gentlemen arrived 40 minutes early and got to work right away. I found them to be very professional and friendly. Before they left, they explained to me a problem encountered with my dryer vent cleaning and showed me the ways/tools used to work around said problem. I will definitely use/recommend Six Penny for future business.

The actual job was fine, the wait for the work crew to arrive was not. I was asked to wait for the crew from 12:00 to 4PM, but they did not arrive until well after 5PM. That was not so hot - I don't like having my time wasted, but a call to the manager provided the explanation that they were stuck in traffic. On the other hand, when the crew arrived they were courteous, professional and fast. They inspected and cleaned the chimney and were gone, with no mess, in 30 minutes. They honored the Angie's List coupon, reducing the price by $10. I would hire them again, but I would still prefer the crew arrive when they say they will.

6-Penny performed a "chimney inspection" which consisted of lying in the fireplace on the floor and looking up into the chimney for 90 seconds. There was no inspection of the interior of the chimney stack and nobody went onto the roof at all. I questioned them about possibly looking at the interior of the chimney to check the masonry, animal nests, etc. They said it would be very expensive ( $400) and not necessary. By reading reviews on the website, I was under the impression that a standard inspection included a full chimney examination (most other companies do include this). I was wrong and should have discussed more thoroughly what was included before scheduling the appointment. EDIT: After submitting this unsatisfactory report to Angie's list, the company contacted me and offered a more thorough inspection at no charge. This second inspection included a trip to the roof and photos taken of the chimney exterior. I was certainly more satisfied with this second inspection.

I used them about 8 years ago. I liked their service. Their service was excellent. I would use them again.

Great. They called before they came, and even called earlier in the day because they had a cancellation. They were polite, nice to my daughter, worked quickly and neatly, and told us that our chimney was in great condition. We will use them next year.

Great. The workmen were pleasant and professional and did a thorough and clean job.

They arrived on time. I received a call one half hour before they arrived from their office so I could be prepared. They cleaned the ducts and showed my before and after photos.

Sixpenney cleaned air ducts in our house we just purchased. The ducts had not been cleaned since the homes construction 20 years ago. Each register had a hand full of debris ranging from food bits to small children's toys. Sixpenney removed all items from the registers and blew out the very filthy ducts. The home's odor has improved immensely since this cleaning. They also swept one chimney and checked the other two chimney stacks. Both crews were professional and punctual. They even worked with another contractor in the house who was not very pleasant. Thanks for being flexible.

After getting other companies' estimates of the work necessary to replace mortar inside the fireplace and fix the chimney cap/crown, I became convinced that Sixpenny's price was excessive. Whereas Sixpenny told me that the entire chimney cap/crown had to be torn out and replaced, Thus instead of paying Sixpenny's $900, I paid $250 to another reputable contractor. Time will tell if Sixpenny was right, but I feel confident in the work of the company I ultimately hired.
