Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps

Terrific. They were very responsive, very flexible with timing and offered to come on a Saturday morning. They arrived promptly, the team of two set up in the living room taking care to lay a drop cloth and went to work on the chimney. After about 20 minutes of intense scrubbing and vacuuming, they packed up and were gone. They left no mess, no debris, and even put the fire grate back exactly as it had been. Chimney sweeps are notorious for selling unnecessary work. My chimney had very old bricks and clearly needed repairs. They provided an estimate that was consistent with other estimates I had received and I did not feel at all taken advantage of. When I bought the house, my home inspector said that I needed a new chimney liner. I asked the crew about that and they said it still looked fine.

They showed up on time, were efficient, explained everything to me. I was able to get an appointment very quickly. I would highly recommend these guys and will use them next year when I need my chimney cleaned.

They did a good job. They were easy to get a hold of, were helpful and showed up on time. They cleaned up any mess that was made and were very professional.

They are very professional, put down a tarp on floor to catch the soot, and used a vacuum up the chimneys. They stayed in estimate and they have a great attitude about their work. They should because of how well they clean up.

They said they'd be there between 12 and 2; they were there at 12:30 with a phone call 45 minutes prior. I have two chimneys; the two guys took about an hour and a half to clean them both. The vacuum they used is pretty noisy; don't try to listen to music while they're working! Before they left, one guy got on the roof to check the mortar, flue sheaths and chimney cap. Finding some cracks in the mortar, he took some pictures to show me the extent of the damage. They left me a receipt detailing the work done, an appraisal of the condition of the chimney and an estimate for repairs. I got an email with the pictures the day afterward. They were quick, thorough and pleasant to interact with. The dispatcher was clear and professional. An excellent experience!

I felt that they were responsive and made an appointment for me within the week. I liked that they had weekend appointments, so I did not have to take off of work. They called me before they arrived and came on time. They were very neat and pleasant. They put down a tarp from the door to the chimney, so any traffic was on that. They offered a coupon that I took advantage of.

Great! They came as promised and went right to work. They tripped a circuit from plugging in 2 pieces of equipment to the same circuit, but that was easily remedied. Finished the job in an hour and left everything perfectly clean.

I looked up this company on Angie's List and called after all the good reviews. I was given a four hour window (12 - 4 pm) which they would arrive. They called the day prior to confirm the appointment and again the day of the service to let me know the guys were on their way. They arrived at around 3 pm. Two fellas did the job. They were very conscious about covering all my stuff around the fireplace with blankets and made sure they cleaned their shoes off when coming in and out of the house. They completely cleaned my wood stove insert to the point it looks brand new. Note - I have not cleaned my fireplace / chimney in at least 7 years. Then they removed the insert completely and brushed out and cleaned the chimney. They also inspected the inside and outside of the fireplace and chimney. One of the guys was up on the roof and took a digital photo of some damage around the top of my chimney and gave me an estimate to have it repaired. When they left, the den was so clean that no one would know they were even there.... except for my sparkling fireplace! All in all the job took about an hour and I was very happy with the work.

These guys were very careful, very thorough, very neat. They even took great pains not to scare the cat!

Team of two arrived and spent 4 hours doing cosmetic cleaning. They did not move any furniture or dust, and did not wipe floors if the floor was under or behind a piece of furniture. They did not do a complete job. There satisfaction was based upon getting my wife to state it looked good - which it did. This company does not do deep cleaning - at least not at my house.

The two-man team arrived at the very front-end of the service window. They brought in their equipment, cleaned the chimney and didn't cause a mess. One of them went up on the roof to inspect the chimney. He said the chimney needed some repair of the crown and the top four rows of brick. He took pictures to show what needed repair. The estimate for that repair was about $550. There was no pressure to agree to the repair right then. Before leaving, they made sure I knew the fireplace was safe to use. It was a good experience.

Our search for a reliable chimney sweep company led us to join Angie's List. When I reviewed the listings I noted that some of the other companies had a very high incidence of substantial repairs that came along with the cleaning. We decided to go with Sixpenny since their customers did not consistently report that they had to make substantial repairs. They gave us a quote over the phone and then gave us the Angie's List discount. We received a call on the day prior to our appointment and learned that we were reportedly first on the list for a Saturday morning. We finally called at about 10 a.m. and learned that they were delayed. We later received another call informing us that they would come over after noon time frame. When the two workers arrived they spread a canvas tarp in front of the hearth. The other worker got a ladder and looked at the top of the chimney and inspected the chimney cap. I did not see them using any type of scope, but the worker below really got inside the fireplace to visually inspect it. He noted that it was really dirty (it had been throwing sparks from the top). I saw a considerable amount of soot come down as he brushed the chimney. After he was done cleaning it, he vacuumed the entire area and left it clean. Both employees were very pleasant to work with. By the time they were done I had forgotten about the coupon, but they honored the reduced price without my having to ask about it. I believe this company also does gutter caps and I was going to ask about that as well -- interestingly, they did not suggest anything about my gutters which were loaded with leaves.

Making an appointment was easy. They were available when we were (a couple of days out). They (two of them) arrived on time and did all of the work without any problems.

Sixpenny is very reliable. They scheduled within a couple of days, and I feel were very honest. They could have swept all three chimneys but the tech was honest and said only 1 of them needed it. They saved me money, and I will definitely use them again.

They responded promptly to my e-mail inquiry. They had questions about the job, so I called them to discuss. The woman on the phone was very pleasant and I was very pleased with the reasonable quotation(lowest among the 3 firms I compared). We will likely work with them in the near future.

My experience with them was excellent in all respects. They came when they said they were going to come. They were polite and professional. They problem reoccurred and they came back with no questions.

The crew arrived early, after I okayed the early arrival. They spent about 45 minutes cleaning and inspecting the chimney both from inside and from the roof. The chimney hadn't been cleaned in five years so it was quite a job, but they did it very well. They kept the area around the fireplace neat and thoroughly cleaned up after the job. I had questions about operation of the damper, which they answered knowledgeably and thoroughly. They found a problem with the masonry around the chimney cap, for which they gave me an estimate. It seems a minor problem not needing any immediate attention (since it is causing none of the problems they said might ensue), so I won't be fixing it, but the price they quoted for the repair seemed fair. If a problem related to this observed minor issue ever develops, I wouldn't hesitate to call them in to fix it.

It went smoothly and the work was well done. The workers arrived on time and got right to work cleaning the chimney and then the gutters.

They said that we had put the date down wrong which I don't believe. So I decided to give up on them. They were very professional and courteous over the phone. We didn't use them because of our bad arrangements and cancellation.

We have used them several times. I like that they do a thorough job and the prices are reasonable. They were able to tell us that our chimney will need some work soon. They took care to keep our home clean.
