Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps

They cleaned my chimney on Saturday and we scheduled an appointment to repair the chimney for the following Wednesday. They called me at work as I asked and was there when they arrived (I did not want to miss more work than necessary). The workers came in and were not only professionaly dressed, but friendly as well. They spread cloths all over the floor and moved the furniture out of the way. They did not just patch the cracks, but entirely replaced the back wall and the whole floor of the chimney. It looks like I have a brand new fireplace!!! I was more than pleased with results. Now that the colder weather is upon us, I plan on having cozy fires in the fireplace and without the worry of setting the whole house in flames.

They recommended the chimney cap after they did the cleaning and they even had pictures. They explained why we needed to do the work. We called them back and they came and rebuilt the cap. They came both times on schedule. They didn't make a mess and they did their job.

I called last Wednesday and Leslie informed me that they had an opening this Saturday. This was great since I would not have to take off work time. Walter and his assistant were couteous, clean, professionally dressed. They came at the time arranged. They first brought in drop clothes to protect my floors, moved furniture so as not to damage anything. They hand carried the machine down the stairs so as not to harm the stair carpet or gouge the walls. I really appreciated that since I just had the walls painted. They provided extra lighting to better see the inside of the chimney and used various tools to scrape and clean the interior. A vacuum sucked up all the soot (there was ALOT!!). I know previously there were some cracks in the back wall, but now that it was cleaned I could really see how deep they were and also some cracks in the ash dump area (flloor of the chimney). There was no pressure by the workers, but I wanted them to come back and repair the problem so as to avoid any unintentional fires. They are coming back Wednesday to complete the repairs. They will be calling me at work just prior to arrival so as to cut down on the time I will miss from work.

They swept the chimney in my condominium on Capitol Hill. They arrived within the two-hour window quoted. They did a thorough job and did not make any mess. They put down a large cloth to protect my bamboo flooring. They also showed me a rooftop photo of my chimney. They gave me an estimate for repair of a couple of cracks in my chimney but were honest and told me that the chimney could be used safely in the meantime before I had it repaired. I was happy with their service.

They were great. I would absolutely hire them again.

On Jun 7, 2009, sent an email with a boatload of questions and requested an estimate. As of today (8/30/09) I have received no response.

I called in the morning because of a bad smell in my basement. A technician was at my house within one hour. They did their job and were gone within an hour. I did feel a little bit of sales pressure to buy the chimney caps, but I think that the tech really felt like I needed to do something quickly or the birds would come back. He did not recommend the screens until I made it very certain that I could not afford the caps at this time.

Getting an understandable comprehensive quote was a bit problematic. But Sixpenny was able to return and provide a very good quote. Sixpenny was the only company that scaled the roof for the quote and took pictures, which provided much more comfort than an eyeball estimate provided elsewhere. I plan to use Sixpenny again.

Broken or missing mortar between the hearth and the subfloor created a gap that had been hidden by carpet. We removed the carpet in preparation for installation of wood flooring, and the floor installer advised us the gap would not be fully hidden by the new trim. Sixpenny came to estimate the repair, and the price was so reasonable we asked them to do the job. They explained what they were going to do, were very attentive to detail, and cleaned up thoroughly afterward.

They were professional, punctual, put down runners to protect the inside of the house and I would recommend them to others. The chimney cleaning was $89 and it was around $400 for air duct cleaning + chimney cleaning for one house.

The two technicians they sent out were wonderful. They were prompt and explained everything. They were courteous and professional. The chimney sweep was wonderful. When they cleaned the dryer vents, which goes up, one of them was standing on the dryer and stepped on the start knob and broke it. He immediately showed me and called the owner. The owner said they would have to get a part and come out and fix it. I explained to them that I was going to Hawaii and that was a thursday and they showed up on Saturday and installed it. They hooked it up and the dryer worked. I was washing the clotes and I noticed the clothes weren't drying. There was no air going up through the vent so I disconnected the vent myself. I went to Hawaii and came back two months later and called them to let them knowt he vent was not working. When the owner fixed it, he did not test it. The two technicians came out and blew a big wad of stuff out of the dryer. It was clogged so they blew it off. I did three loads of laundry and the knob came off in my hand. They did not buy a new piece, they had rigged an old know by putting a drill bit in it and super glued it. I called the owner and he said he thought I was trying to get to Hawaii real quick. He said if I get the knob he would reimburse me and come out and install it. The two technicians came out and installed it. These two technicians are wonderful. He said that he was sorry it was taking four trips. I really feel like the owner was trying to scam me.

Went as expected. Crew was careful, placed drop cloths from the fireplace to the door and place a cloth over the vacuum to minimize dust coming back into the room.

Great! On time and professional. Offered dryer duct cleaning free of charge after I mentioned I am a member of Angie's list.

Six Penny called to let me know that the team was on its way-about 45 minutes out. They gave me a window between 1-4pm and the team showed up around 2pm. Franco and Kevin were very polite and professional and took time to show me how the process works and answer all my questions. They laid sheets over our hardwood floors so that the hose didn't scratch them and also covered parts of our stairs and wrapped the hose that was against the wall to prevent scratching. Franco provided some good tips regarding adding a filter to our main air returns and also brought me outside to show me all the dust they were removing from the dryer vent way up high on our roof. The disinfectant solution they used had a clean pleasant smell and the house smells very fresh. There was hardly any dust or residue left over and only occurred around the main returns and one vent in the kitchen. Since all the dust and debris goes through a large hose into their truck, it's hard to see how much they are getting out of the vents but they said that it wasn't too bad and identified one area where most of the dirt/dust came from. We thought the company and service was great and the price was exactly what they quoted me on the phone-no surprises. We will definitely use them again and recommend them to friends.

I called Sixpenny this morning to get my Chimney and gutter's cleaned. The gal mentioned that they could also do my dryer vent as well, and since in the 4 years I've lived here I hadn't done that either I figured I would knock it all out at once. She was able to schedule me a team to come out the same day (Saturday), which was unexpected but quite nice since I didn't have much to do today and it meant that I wouldn't need to take a day off of work (especially in the current economic environment...). The scheduler called me 30 minutes before they were to arrive. They arrived 30 minutes later, and in about an hour and a half had taken care of all the tasks. They cleaned up after themselves and took care to keep everything neat. I can't complain. They did a great job and were very convenient! I'll have them back next year to do it all over again.

It was easy to make an appointment; they told me exactly what to expect and how much it would cost. They arrived on time, put on shoe covers to keep my floors clean, covered the area around the fireplace, and cleaned it out thoroughly. They climbed up on the roof and took photographs of my chimney to show me that they had been up there, and to show me that we had cracks that needed repair. They explained how dirty the fireplace was and showed me on a schematic where the ash had built up. They recommended repair of the cracks, but were not pushy and said that it did not have to be done immediately. I was very happy with their service and would call them again.

They did a great job cleaning the chimney and answered all of my questions. The inspection revealed some cracks in the chimney's concrete crown and a missing chimney cap, and they worked up an estimate for a repair/installation on the spot. They did a good job explaining everything, including showing me pictures of the problems on a digital camera. They also showed me my ash dump and told me that I still have some time, but that it should be cleaned out as well.

Arrived on time, performed chimney cleaning and inspection swiftly. Informed us we needed a chimney cap, gave us a quote, and scheduled installation for the next weekend. All interactions were positive-great customer service.

First the air duct cleaners came in, got right to work and were very professional. Had to wait longer than I thought for the chimney sweeps to get to my house, but they too got right to work, were very professional, showed me photographs of my chimney and told me it was in good shape. Overall a good experience.
