Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps

I would use their services again in the future.

It was pretty good service. They were on time. They put drapes on the ground. They took the time to explain to me the process.

Everything went really well, they were excellent. They even checked my chimney caps on the roof as well. They were perfect.

Overall, everything I needed done was accomplished. The employee took me up on the roof and showed me some deterioration to my chimney and provided recommended repairs at a reasonable price. The service call was prompt and he accomplished all of the tasks in a timely manner.

They cleaned the chimney fine, but repeatedly did not put our wood stove back correctly. I ended up doing it myself, after having bought a replacement stove pipe fitting on line. The workers were very polite, however.

Absolutely excellent experience. I received a quote for work on two chimneys a few months back. Once we contacted SixPenny last week they honored the original quote and went straight to work the following day. The work crew showed up on time, gave an explanation of the work they were going to do, explained to me my options and were open to feedback. The work was completed on time with excellent results. Apart from the excellent work they completed I was pleasantly surprised with their respect for my time and willingness to accommodate my busy work schedule.

The gents who came out to do the chimney sweeping were very efficient, and covered the floor with drop cloths; (I wish they would have covered our big screen plasma television which was in the family room to preclude any dust from getting into it.) Long story short, they offered to do all repairs for $1,800 plus the cost of the day's chimney sweeping. We okayed the work to be done, called the office to see if we could finance the payments, and were told we could make 4 monthly pmts. so we scheduled it for 11/2/12. They came out and did the chimney repairs, and said they would be back the following Monday to waterproof the chimney... they didn't show up, nor did they call. We had to call and ask them to come out and finish the job. They were out on11/10/12 to waterproof the chimney. During the course of waterproofing the chimney they broke the hand cranked hose hose reel on the back patio, and no one left a note or contacted us. We called the office and registered a complaint. The receptionist answering phones said she would have the manager contact us. He never did.

There were pluses and minuses. They did not agree that we needed 2 new flues, as two other companies recommended, resulting in a significantly lower estimate. Additionally, they did some work beyond their estimate but did not charge extra for the work. The work appeared to be well done and thorough, although I am no expert. On the other hand, they did not bring the correct materials on their first visit, which led to the job spanning more than 2 weeks, instead of 1 day. January's extreme cold resulted in a delay, and then, when they did come again, they were still lacking some material to complete the job, resulting in a third visit. I would use them again for a chimney cleaning and inspection, since they have already said that I do not need new flues.

They were really good. They did everything in a good and timely manner. I had them come back out to look at some caulking. You could see someone had caulked all the way down but stopped at the foundation. He said that was routine, and they normally don't caulk near the foundation, but they went ahead and did it because I was concerned about it. I would use them again if needed. They were really friendly and professional.

They were quick and tidy. I'd use them again. Very happy with my service.

The technician called prior to arriving. They were very polite and very tolerant of my chaotic household (3 kids and 2 dogs). They completed the chimney cleaning and inspection in 30 minutes. They presented me with a list of other items that needed to be repaired but were very clear that they did not need to be repaired immediately and they were not pushy at all about signing me up for more expensive repairs. When we do decide to have the repairs made, we will certainly use them.

This was the first winter in this house and we wanted to make sure the fireplace was ok to help us in this very cold winter! The crew showed up in the window of time that I was given. They performed the job of inspecting and sweeping the chimney thoroughly and very professionally. The identified a couple of minor issues for which they gave me an estimate to fix in the spring if I wish to do so, without a hard sell. The crew was courteous - never used a fireplace before, gave me plenty of advice and directions, and even light up the fire for me - and very knowledgeable

Sixpenny was prompt and quick. They noticed that the chimney hadn't been cleaned in many years (we bought the house recently and were unsure). Also, Sixpenny checked out the roof area and determined that there were no cracks or problems to address at this time. They could have fabricated a reason to do work on the roof (I certainly couldn't have verified it), but they were honest and straightforward about it. I'll have them come and check the chimney again in a year or two.

Both prices quoted were fair. I was satisfied with the chimney painting, however, was very disappointed with the dryer vent cover replacement. I was told that there was no dryer vent cover on my roof. This confused me because they provided a seemingly fair quote for the service. I couldn't understand how they provided a quote for a dryer vent cover if I didn't have one. Also, I watched a previous contractor clean out my dryer vent. I was told that they would have to come back out to further investigate and locate the vent. Upon completion of the chimney painting, I contacted the office to pay for the chimney job as I was satisfied with the painting. I reported to the office that the painting job was great and that I would be paying for only that service. However, I was charged for the dryer vent cover also. I did not realize until I saw my credit card statement. This mistake would not have bothered me if they came back as promised or if someone had responded to me to refund the money. I called multiple times to either have someone come back out or to refund the money and each time, the person who answered the phone was polite and told me that someone would get back to me. I finally gave up calling. The staff was friendly, just very unresponsive when I was charged for a service never rendered.

The service person was on time. Did a thourough job, advised us of a minor issue, left without leaving a mess.

I didn't call them, the realtor did in response to Home Inspection report. I did not visually inspect the crown nor the cap, but assume it was done right. the mortar replacement on the chimney shoulder appeared to be satisfactory. The chimney passed re-inspection so they obviously completed the work satisfactorily. I don't know if their price is competitive because I did not have the time nor the opportunity to do any comparison shopping.

We were very disappointed because we were given a report that we were skeptical of. We moved to our new house and the previous owner had taken very good care of his fireplace. The guy who came to look at it told me that the chimney was in the worst possible state, and that he had a video of the inside to show. I asked him to email it to my husband and me, but he never did. He also gave us a ridiculous estimate of $2000 (that included the fixing of a cement crack, that according to him, was detrimental, to our chimney). We decided to get a second estimate and had a different provider come over. We did not mention anything about the estimate given to us. The new guy told us the chimney needed a cleaning ($175), and that there was a little crack up there that we should keep an eye on, and that if in a year or two, it gets bigger, we might want to consider fixing it.

George arrived within the specified window, was professional and knowledgeable. After the cleaning and inspection he explained that my cap was fine, but the crown needed to be repaired. They were able to accomplish during the same appointment and even fixed a loose brick on my front steps for free. He did not try to sell me anything I didn't need, showed me pictures of what needed to be fixed and showed me pictures after the repair. I was thoroughly pleased with the entire process

I had appointments scheduled two days in a row and both days no call, no show. I waited around both days and they never showed up. I left a message for Franko (the owner) to call me and he never did.

The work that I asked them to do went fine, but they got out of their truck trying to sell me upgraded services that I did not want. They were here over an hour and most of the time was to tell me how much work my chimney and fireplaces needed. I had done most of what they suggested a bit over a year ago.

Very easy, professional, and great customer service. Jennifer was so pleasant on the phone making our appointment and ensuring the service went smoothly. The chimney sweep person came out and did the job in 45 minutes. Left the place clean. Will most definitely use them again for dryer vent cleaning!

The sweeps were timely, but immediately cited $1900 of services required to properly operate my fireplace. When I asked to cancel the appointment, the foreman explained there would be a $75 fee because they "inspection" had already been completed. After the services were rendered (about 20 min), the cobwebs immediately above the damper were still present and the creosote was still untouched. I cannot be certain my chimney was even cleaned at all. I made the mistake of relying upon Angie's List recommendations rather than searching for a CSIA certified cleaner. I would not use this cleaner again and am shocked they have earned an Angie's List award.

Appt. made for Saturday. We were told they would call 30 minutes prior to arrival within a window of time. Pleasantly surprised with the friendly call from the office, given the name of technician that would be arriving, and arrival of 30-45 minutes. Jaime & additional technician arrived within 30 minutes. Friendly, professional, and clearly stated that he would inspect for any issues beyond cleaning and inspection, and there was no obligation to use their company if there were any repairs required. Fortunately there were no issues and the sweeping of the chimney was completed within a short period of time. Will definitely use them again!

The company was very responsive for a chimney sweep/clean that I needed to get done in a location in Washington, DC. I would highly recommend their service to anyone looking for good service and good value.
