Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps

I had my chimney cleaned and inspected by another company - That technician said I had cracks in the chimney and needed a liner or a coating. He said he would have the owner call to set up a time to come by to give me an estimate. The owner did not call. I called twice requesting an estimate and never heard from them. I called Sixpenny who came out, inspected the chimney, said I did not need a liner or coating, installed the smoke shield. The smoking problem is fixed. Sixpenny probably saved me several thousands of dollars.

Appointments were scheduled in a very timely manner. They had to come out on 2 different occasions - the first appointment they arrived right on time. The 2nd appointment they were an hour late which caused me to take off work 90 minutes earlier than really necessary, however, I guess with traffic in the NoVA area, you just never know. The workers were careful to lay out drop cloths so as not to get soot on carpet and they were very efficient in their work. I would use them again.

Their price was reasonable. We didn't choose the lowest bidder; we actually went with the highest bid because he seemed to be the most competent.

When my dryer began to overheat, I suspected the dryer vent may have issues. I consulted Angies list and selected Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps for their historically good service reviews. After the owner arrived, I explained my problem, he asked additional questions and proceeded to inspect both my dryer and the vent. He entered the attic and inspected the entire vent from living area entry to roof exit, making notes of pipe lengths, bends and angles. He then went to his truck, and got his longest ladder. The main reason I contacted someone else to perform the service is due to the extreme height of my roof. The owner had no issue with this, went up on the roof and examined the dryer vent prior to disassembling. He cleaned the vent and vent cap and cleaned up all debris before reassembling. Before leaving, he was courteous in telling my about anything he noticed on the roof and gave me advice on how to prevent issues in the future. He performed all services that a homeowner wishes a service provider would provide, was courteous and made sure I knew what was going on. He did offer to replace the vent cap with a better design, but it was only a recommendation and no pressure. The next time I call him, I will have him install the upgrade.

Sixpenny representatives were supposed to call on their way but forgot. They gave me a 4 hour window of service time. Because they didn't call me on the way, they arrived at the house before me but they did wait for me because they didn't call as they said that they would. They got up on the roof and used a powerful flashlight to see down into the chimney. They did not perform a camera inspection (my client felt it wasn't necessary). They also checked the flashing and the brickwork surrounding the chimney. Then they entered the home and checked the condition of the chimney at the fireplace and, in this case, where the furnace accessed the chimney as well. I felt by the one technician's explanation of the condition that he did know what he was talking about. However, it was a long conversation (longer than it needed to be) and I had to ask a lot of questions to fully understand everything myself. There is work to be done on the chimney but I did not feel pressured to purchase any additional work and the technician left a quote. I felt like it was in the right ballpark but on the high end of what I expected.

Vent duct had a difficult section that required more work to clean than normal. Excellent job and great attention to doing job right.

They did a very good work. They were very prompt, very clean. Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps noticed a crack on the brick work up near the chimney and they wanted to fix it. I don't think they charged me very much for that. They came on time on a very busy season for chimney cleaning. Everything is tidy.

I have a 2 Bedroom, 2 Bath ground-floor condo in Manassas with 9 vents and 1 dryer vent. The 3-man crew arrived on time, with Jaime arriving later to do the welcomed translating and explanation of the process. Unfortunately, I had the door to my master bedroom closet closed and they missed doing that vent. Technically, since I was at fault, I wished that they had opened the door to do investigative work -- but that didn't happen. All in all, the work was performed to my satisfaction and the dust level in my home was minimized much to my enjoyment.

The repairs are expensive so we put off the repair for them. It was good. Actually, my wife was here when they came but overall it was pretty good, seemed to know what they're talking about. They were okay. The price was too high. I think the work is good. They were on time.

We liked what they said but we actually went with someone else. The price seemed fair but we found a guy who did it cheaper and that's why we didn't go with them. He went ahead and bought the bricks because he assumed we were going with him and they didn't match so we ended up not going with him. He was good to work with and he worked with us on the price. It was a misunderstanding on their part. I would call them out again.

They were great and I was really happy with them. They did a great job. The home inspector found one problem, but when they came out they found another problem. So they were able to fix it and also in a timely fashion, so that I could sell the house. The people that came out and actually performed the services were very nice and personable. I had to ask for pictures because I wanted my husband to be able to see it. They fixed the pictures and emailed them later on, so that I could show my husband what the problem was because I couldn’t see it there. I don’t remember how much they charged me for their services but I thought it was reasonable. They took pictures before and after the service, so it was good. They were one of the few that I could get to come out that quickly. They actually got to the place before I did because I had already moved in.

The appointment was made effortlessly and the tech showed up on time. Everyone, from the lady who makes the appointments to the techs, was courteous and professional. The tech was very thorough in cleaning the fireplace box and in checking the chimney. The fireplace had let smoke escape into the room when I used it last winter. As this was a new problem, and it began smoking only after a cleaning and inspection by another company, I asked the Sixpenny tech to determine the reason. He found that the damper only opened about an inch. He pulled the damper completely apart and re-positioned it. Also, since I had conflicting evaluations of the chimney crown - two years ago the company that cleaned it said there were small cracks, but the cleaners last year said it was fine - I asked him to determine the condition of the crown. The tech took a video of the crown with his cell phone which included shots of my backyard, so I knew it was my chimney he was photographing. Indeed, there were cracks. I had Sixpenny replace the crown today for a cost of $350, which is less than the company that first mentioned the cracks would have charged. Finally, one of the interior mesh screens on the glass fireplace screen fell off during the firebox cleaning. The Sixpenny tech took it back to the office with him to try to repair it. As it couldn't be repaired, the company today replaced both the interior screens with new ones for which I wasn't charged. I am more than pleased and will use this company again. I highly recommend this service.

I wasn't there; my husband was there, but they were very efficient. They were very thorough. They checked the chimney out for us to make sure it was okay because we were selling the house and we wanted to make sure that it was good to go and they confirmed that.

They came for a quote the weekend prior to the start of services. They were very informative of the options provided to us. Based on the pricing and options, we decided to replace the entire portion of the chimney from the roof on up. They also needed to patch the inside of our chimney- which occured a day after replacing the roof portion. Both days they were at the house, they were very prompt, respectful and clean with their work. I was much appreciative and very happy from start to finish!

Sixpenny provided excellent service with a price that was competitive. We contacted them based on references and Angies List write ups. We knew our chimney needed cleaning and suspected that some of the bricks were damaged. They cleaned the chimney and took great care to keep any debris or soot out of the house. They covered floors near the fireplace and cleaned up carefully after the cleaning was done. The inspection revealed loose and cracked bricks. They provided a proposal that was competitive and they completed all the work as per the proposal. Their masons came and did a great job, cleaned up the area thoroughly. We are very pleased with the results.

The company took pictures of the problem area, and showed me what needed to be done. He was very thourough. After he did the work, we took "after" pictures and we were able to see what he did. Due to being Angie's List members, we got 20% off our bill. They also cleaned up after themselves, and our fireplace now works great! They also put a sealing on the mortar that would last 10 years.

The job was very quick since my chimney was fairly clean and in working order. I recently moved into the home so I wasn't sure how clean it was but they said all was well and they cleaned what debris they saw. Their checking of the chimney went well too. I don't give A ratings unless the work was truly exceptional. They came in and did the minimum asked, they were clean inside my home, and they were punctual which is all one can ask for. One thing I did hope for was a discount for that job or maybe for a future one given how quick the job went because of the cleanliness of my chimney. I somewhat felt they cleaned a clean chimney and still charged me full price. If they considered this then I would have considered it exceptional service. I would probably use them again since I have no reason not to but I will shop around again.

They came because a I could not reach my regular chimney cleaning company and cleaned the chimney and woodstove fine. THey then claimed I had $5000.00 of chimney outside and in side damage. I I took their invoice and showed it to my regular cleaning company and he said there was not even one thing wrong that needed to be fixed. He called it a "sell up" , companies get in your house with acoupon and than look how they can sell you up.

The quality of the work was okay. The service was average.

They were very responsive, and very clean. I would definitely use them again.
