They did a great job for us. They were quick and competent. There weren't any additional charges.

Although I don't remember the technicians' names, I do remember how nice, efficient and professional both men were. They arrived on time, explained the entire process of cleaning our home's ducts, and promptly went to work. They covered floors before bringing in the hoses and wore shoe covers as they worked throughout the house. They showed me what our ducts looked like before the process and the after. I was amazed how clean our ducts were upon completion. After they finished the heating and air systems, they did our dryer vent duct. That had been such a concern to us, that they collected the debris to show me. It was quite a lot and we had tried to clean that ourselves just a few weeks prior to their visit. | |I am very satisfied by the work preformed as well as the attitude of the entire staff of Six Penny. Went great I thought there would be a mess but they guys left nothing behind.

They arrived within the time window given (between 2 and 5 p.m). The job took about 45 minutes (for the cleaning) They showed me pictures of the chimney, and told me that it needed caulking around the flashing to prevent water getting in the chimney. The cleaning job was professionally done with no mess. I would use them again.

Within 3 days some of the respiratory issues family had seemed to disappear. Also included dry vent cleaning, surprising how dirty the dryer vents can get.

Cleaned chimney, made recommendation to improve fire place, offered to clean dryer flue for reasonable added price.

They were very responsive and professional from the beginning. We had some trouble scheduling a date for the work due to the cold weather and they initially wanted 1/2 down for a deposit before we even finalized our appointment. I explained I wasn't comfortable with that and they then called me back with another date option and waived the deposit request. After that there were no problems until the very end when one of the workers tried to charge extra for work that was already included in the estimate. When we explained it had been covered in the estimate and refused to pay the extra they backed off. All in all I would use them again for future services.

I was very pleased with Sixpenny. They showed up on time and performed both services in the time promised. Franco was very efficient and even accommodated my request to take a look at the dryer connection which as my suspicion confirmed was not connected properly. I had recently had the floors replaced and when the flooring people put the dryer back they used the wrong tape and the hose was disconnected causing hot air to escape into the utility room. Franco promptly took care of the problem pointing this out to the contractors who had incorrectly connected the dryer. Franco even had the right tape with him, which the contractors used to properly connect the hose.

I engaged Sixpenny because we were installing a gas fireplace in lieu of the wood-burner when we refinished our basement. They checked out the of the chimney to get rid of the unused exhaust cap. They photographed the top and showed me where there were holes in the steel cap. They built and installed a new stainless steel cap with a single hole for the exhaust pipe and cleaned the chimney pipe to clear any wood-smoke odors. The remaining exhaust cap was re-installed crooked so it looked like a crooked hat on top of the chimney. I called Frank back and he and team came out and fixed it right away. Their work was solid, timely and on the money.

1/31/2014: The technicians came and did an excellent work written above. The quote didn't include the top liner replacement, the technician couldn't just change the chimney crown. He wanted to do right job, so replaced the top liner without additional cost. They came 12pm and left 4pm. We were satisfied their work very much. I realized they were so busy in winter time, so missed my appointment. I told them I wasn't happy on 12/13/2013 that I needed a phone call at least that I shouldn't have wasted my whole day for just waiting. They didn't give me a reminder call the day before or the day that they were on the way. I guess that's the their way which was different what I expected. However, their work was just amazing. I was so glad to give them a second chance that I normally wouldn't. I will recommend the company to my friends, and to my family, if they lived in the neighborhood. 12/17/2013: I gave them a second chance the following day when I received an apologize call from them, even though I was still upset. The technician came and explained all problems very well and the quote was still reasonable among the other companies quotes. I didn't know I had to pay for the chimney inspection $65.00, if the technician used a ladder to see the top of the chimney. But he was professional, so I accepted to pay it. /13/2013: I have been waiting 9am-2pm. No one called or showed up. I called the company and the receptionist said the technicians were on the way to my home, but were in Alexandria. I told her I would have to pick my child from school, so wouldn't be home between 2:40-3:40pm. The receptionist told me that would be fine. Before the technicians would come to my place, she would let them call 30 mins. in advance. Now, 5:30pm, no one showed up nor called and the company's phone was answering machine. How could they do this? They made me wait for a whole day and no show. I wasted my time and would not like this unprofessional attitude. If someone promises, they should keep it. If someone can't keep a promise, they should let know the other. This is not a job issue. This is a basic human skill issue.

The technicians cleaned the two chimneys quickly and efficiently with no mess.

They were friendly and knowledgeable. They did they work and it looks excellent. My only complaints are with their responsiveness: They don't answer their phone nor return calls promptly; they didn't complete the work the first day and said they would be back the next day - but didn't come until late (I wasn't home) and didn't complete the work. Then said they would come Monday, which they finally did late in the day, (restricting my flexibility). But the bottom line is they knew what they were doing and did excellent work including worksite cleanup. I did get another estimate (I'll review that company separately) and that company wanted to rebuild the top half of the chimney citing damage that was not really evident.

They were able to schedule the cleaning fairly soon after my initial call to them. They gave me an arrival "window" of 1:00 to 5:00. Unfortunately they arrived closer to the 5:00 end of the window. They did however call about 30 minutes prior to their arrival which was nice. Once they arrived they were very efficient. There were two men, one worked inside the house to cover furniture and contain the mess coming down the chimney, the other put up a ladder and worked from outside/top of the chimney. When finished they showed us a bag of soot and said all looked good. They honored Angie's discount ($10). I would use them again.

When I called other chimney services the first thing they tried to do was up-sell me on a stainless steel cap. Some would not even do the job unless you bought a stainless steel cap. I immediately moved onto the next quote. Sixpenny did not make this a condition or up-sell me at the time of the call, but they did try after arriving. I would not be able even consider without a HOA approval since they did not come in black. The house is only 4 years old and the chimney cap was in fine condition with no signs of rust. I was quoted $55 to re-attach, but after they got to the house they told my wife that their ladders could not reach the top of my chimney and that they would have to come back at another unspecified time and that the price would be more. Additionally they did not specify how much additional it would cost. Because it was late on a Friday I waited until Monday morning to call the home office. I asked how a chimney company was not prepared to address any size chimney and why they left us hanging with no return date and no idea of additional costs? I also explained that if they had gone to the back of the house they would have discovered that they could reach the roof with standard size ladders. I was told that someone would come out within the hour. And they held pretty much to that timeframe. I don't know if they were the same guys that came out originally, but they conducted themselves professionally. I was quoted a new price but negotiated it down to $100. It is a high chimney. If the cap stays attached, I will probably use them again should there come a time that I need their services again or decide to switch to a stainless steel cap. All-in-all, I would recommend to SixPenny that they get all the details that they need to provide an accurate quote the first time. Since I didn't see an appropriate category that addressed this situation, I gave them a 'B' on price. It's hard to determine the quality of work, since I cannot determine how well they fastened the cap.

An appointment was scheduled with this company to obtain an estimate for repairing 2 chimneys. The company failed to show up for the appointment. I called the company and they offered to reschedule but I declined the offer.

Franko was awesome. I didn't realize until he came to perform the work that he's a one-man shop (beside the lady who takes care of the office correspondence for him). He was very thorough in his estimate. He was organized both when preparing the quote on-site and when performing the work. He offered explanations on all work performed and took pictures before and after of the roof-top chimney work. The job took him a bit longer than he expected but he came back on the weekend to finish it up - he had to fill the cracks between some areas of the pavers with sand because the power washer washed off the moss and sand.

Couldn't be happier with the promptness of Franco to provide an estimate and explanation of the necessary repairs to the chimney, especially during the busy season. Once we accepted the proposal, he brought bricks to let us choose colors to match the house within 2 days. The scaffolding went up 3 days later and the entire chimney was rebuilt by the next afternoon because he has enough good workers who care about the end product.Yes, they used a level! They even added a small architectural shelf to the top of the chimney that looks so much better than the original. I am so pleased with the entire job. And the job cost $5000 LESS than a previous estimate! Give this company your business!

The cleaning was fine. Be careful in excepting any estimate for repair offered by this company. They told me I needed $960 worth of chimney repair. I asked a contractor friend to inspect the same things six penny told me I needed to have repaired. None of the items six penny said I needed to have repaired needed repairing. I would always get a second opinion for any repair recommended by this company.

Had to reschedule by one day due to heavy rains as they did not want to track dirt and mud into the house -- this was no problem for us. Identified that the vent louver on our dryer duct would likely break due to age and offered to replace it. Declined the offer -- it was nearly 5 times the cost of the louver I installed myself later. Cleanup left a bit to be desired, there were large chunks of lint left behind in my yard and driveway, and they left two access holes open on the ducting coming off my air handler. If I use them again, I will be there to supervise.

Jamie is very nice and appears competent. If only he was there all of the time to supervise the "professionals". The work eventually got done properly because I double and triple checked, but it was quite a burden on my part. As far as cleaning the chimney, I had to convince them to do as I was told they would do and perform a thorough vacuum of the ash shelf behind the damper. Difficult for them? Yes, but they said they would and I shouldn't have to get them to do me any favors. Also, when vacuuming up all of the ash, please don't point your vacuum exhaust into my living room..invest in an inexpensive shop vac hose that can exhaust it out of the house. I'm still cleaning up the dust. I had to convince one of their techs to do a good job the sealing of the flashing, which obviously didn't work because when they came back the second time, they had to redo his work. I went up to inspect their redone work, and they were holding my flashing together with a stick leaning on it. Absolutely absurd. It started pouring out as they were leaving, and water was coming into the attic from the chimney. Fortunately, their supervisor came out and straightened them out by having them seal the flashing for the third time. Sixpenny, stop using inexperienced laborers and get serious by hiring professionals.

They were fine. They were very honest and I like them. I got them off of Angie's List and it was the first time I used them. I liked their people and they told me the truth, they didn't tell me more than it was. They were on time and dependable. I will call them back when I get there, to check the chimneys for me.
