When the estimate was provided, I was not able to provide access to the inside of the house. The estimate included only the exterior work and a request that we plan to include chimney cleaning in the estimate. The two man crew arrived in time to accommodate a personal appointment (thank you). They were very efficient--erected scaffolding, demolished the three rows of brick and requested my approval to use new brick that blended with the existing brick to reconstruct the three rows. I appreciated the effort to communicate and to ensure that I approved the direction the crew wanted to take. They were willing to take the time to clean and reuse the old brick. The chimney was cleaned without incident. However, the mortar was lose between the bricks in the firebox. Repointing was recommended and could be accomplished the same day. I agreed to the increase in the scope of work. .The crew completed all work and cleaned up their work area. They were very neat as they mixed mortar throughout the day (thank you). Because rain was threatening, they wrapped the chimney with a tarp. They returned the next day when the storm had passed to pull the tarp, and retrieve their scaffolding. Good job-thank you.

They gave me a 4 hour window, but I called the company to see if they could narrow it down and they were able to - which allowed me to run some errands. Steven came - very nice. We had just moved into the house so he explained what our current system setup was (gutter guards and length/condition of gutters and dryer vent). Very helpful in explaining everything to me. He was also not put off that I had forgotten to change my address in Angies List and he initially went to the wrong house. Luckily we were less than a mile away - but totally my fault.

This service was excellent. I purchased a deal and they came out on time. This was very detailed work but they did all of the brick work and slate work. Denny and Edward are the two guys that came out. There were very professional, worked efficiently, did not spend time on phone and they did a great job. I was very pleased with the price. I would definitely hire them again and I am going to tell all my neighbors about them.

The provider was able to clean my gutters 2 days after I purchased the big deal. He went on to point out some loose screws on my gutters which needed to be fixed in the future.

Not well. Only did part of the job. Said that is all I had paid for. Said to do the entire job would have cost much more. Used my hoses to clean gutters. Dismantled my sprinkler system. Did not put it back together. Misplaced my adjustable spray nozzle.

I purchased a big deal for a chimney sweep and an inspection. The guys did a good job, but I was disappointed that the inside of the chimney still had a significant amount of soot. I was told that this was normal and that a special treatment is needed to get the soot out. I opted not to get the extra treatment.

Most of the people we called told us that they only replace chimney caps (big money) because it lasts a lifetime. But we had already had the chimney cap sanded and repainted 15 years previously, so we knew it lasted a good long while. Sixpenny told us that they would have to examine the cap first to make sure that their were no rust holes in in yet. If so they would need to replace it. Since there weren't any holes, they were willing to sand and repaint for us. We will be satisfied if it is good for another 15 years. We will come out better if we just sand and repaint again then.

We have used Sixpenny to clean our home since January 2006. We had used other cleaning services before, but none of them lasted more than a couple of years. Sixpenny's consistently high quality, outstanding communications and reasonable pricing have kept us as their customers for more than nine years. We particularly like how the service has continued to be consistently strong over the years, even as different Sixpenny employees have been responsible for cleaning our home. I must also emphasize the great job Sixpenny does with hiring honest and trustworthy employees. A couple of years ago, my wife lost the diamond from her engagement ring. We had no idea where the diamond was or even if it was in our house. I called Sixpenny to ask for their help, just in case. They clearly had dealt with this situation before. They advised that they would put a new bag in the vacuum cleaner and would check it when they were done. When we arrived home that day, my wife's diamond was in a small plastic bag on the counter. Sixpenny's employee could have just walked away with the diamond, but she didn't. Because of the complete trust we have in Sixpenny and their employees, we have given them full access to our home when we are not there. We would recommend Sixpenny unconditionally to anyone who wants great service by trustworthy employees at a reasonable price.

This is my first review of SixPenny Chimney Sweeps for services provided at my new home in the Lake Barcroft area of Falls Church, VA. I purchased a 1950s brick Cape Cod that had a deteriorating fireplace and chimney system. I had three other firms come out and provide estimates and a fourth firm said they couldn't perform the work I needed. Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps' team came out and provided and estimate and showed up on time. They were careful to not make a mess and their estimate was fair and in the middle of the other estimates as far as a scope of work and cost. Their front office folks were prompt in responding to my questions. So I decided to work with them. Their team came out during their scheduled time and worked on the fireplace in my living room and chimney on the roof. They took care not to make a mess. Franko and an assistant came out to review the work their team had done and walked me through everything and showed me how to operate the system with the new upgrades. He mentioned that they had done work beyond their initial estimate but would honor their estimate price, which I really appreciated. The work was done on time and on budget and Franko gave me an estimate and suggestions for other masonry work I need done on my back patio. I had my first fire a few weeks ago and everything worked great. I would recommend them without hesitation.

It went very well. Since the work needed to my chimneys was outside, they provided the estimate and the work without my having to be there. There was one delay due to weather and the only hiccup was they didn't show up on the Friday/Saturday date they said they would. However, I called them the following Monday they showed up the next day and completed the work. I was also able to use their coupon AFTER they provided the estimate which (in my mind) always seems more genuine than a coupon you must disclose before the estimate is performed. I would not hesitate to use them again for future chimney work.

This was a birthday gift from my ex-husband. He scheduled the appointment so as to have the chimney in perfect shape for my birthday, Dec 9th. I had this company out in years past to do my chimney work and thought the service was excellent, thus I gave my ex-husband the idea of having Sixpenny do my yearly chimney service as my birthday gift. The two gentlemen came out exactly at 1pm, which was the scheduled time. They immediately set up everything to do the job and placed protective covers all around so as not to get the rest of the room and house a mess of chimney dust. They were both attired in clean uniforms and were themselves neat in personal appearance. They were friendly and answered my questions and concerns about the status of the fireplace and chimney. I had used the fireplace extensively last year due to all the snow and being without electricity for over a week. Sixpenny workers thoroughly cleaned ALOT of soot out of the fireplace and chimney. The whole process took a little over an hour. They also checked on the roof, the fireplace cap and surrounding area for any problems. After finishing their work, they cleaned up the work area and there was nothing dirty around for me to clean up afterwards. Other than not singing, like in the Mary Poppins movie, nothing could have been easier. I will definitely use them again and refer my neighbors to Sixpenny Chimney Cleaning services.

So, they conducted the cleaning and then conducted the pretty extensive repair and kept everything at a reasonable price. They came on time, were honest, cleaned up after themselves. Keeping their business card handy and am using them from now on. Couldn't be happier.

These guys were fantastic to work with. They were prompt in coming to assess the work and to provide pricing. i obtained two other estimates and Sixpenny offered the best value. They started work within two business days of my verbal acceptance of the order. The quality of the work was excellent. They cleaned up nicely upon completion of the work. i was very satisfied with their work.

My first two experiences to use Sixpenny (basic chimney clean and significant rebuilding of crown and replacement of several tiles and additional work) went very well. But a recent experience to simply clean our furnace exhaust did not go as well. I believe the actual work that was done was satisfactory, but my issue was with the substantial amount of mess created. When I went to check on the workers about 30 minutes into the job they were on the floor cleaning up a large pile of soot with paper towels (not theirs, but ours) and then washing equipment in the shower in the adjacent shower. After further inspection as they left every single surface of the basement was covered in a layer of soot. As I mentioned this to the workers he attempted to explain this was normal. When a manager came by (to inspect the electrical issue below) he didn’t think it looked right either but did not have anything further to say. It is my guess that the equipment to be placed on the bottom of the exhaust was not properly secured and soot was pushed out into the room instead of the equipment/bag. Additionally, when the workers turned on their equipment the surge blew the breaker. Instead of notifying me at the time I had to figure this out as they left. I brought this to their attention and only then did they mention the lights going on when they turned on their equipment. Severely disappointed in the workmanship this time – unfortunately I will not be using Sixpenny again, and I would recommend the same to you – unless you are okay with spending an additional 4-6 hours cleaning your basement.

The young man who came was prompt, and started to work right away. He had almost everything except a filter/dust mask which I gave him, then he proceeded to clean out my dryer vent of 27 years of lint (the dryer does not get used that often). When he finished the work, he cleaned up the excess lint, then dealt the the paper work and payment. Glad he was early and did the work correctly. Thanks!

Sixpenny was very responsive to my request for a quote. & thoroughly checked out the chimney on the outside & inside of the house for the quote. The man who gave me the quote was very professional, efficient & friendly. In fact, there was reminder phone call one day prior to the appt day quote that they would be coming in the morning. On the appt date for the quote, a call came explaining the arranged time would be later due to a problem at previous appt..and then a 2nd call to say they were on their way. On the date set to start the work, I came home from my job to find nothing had been done. I received a call explaining that It rained hard that morning, shortly after they arrived, so they stopped work but used the time to research a brick supply place that would have the best matching bricks and returned later in the day which was 5:15pm. They worked till 8pm. The work was completed the next day. Communication was very good and I am very pleased with the job they did.

Overall I was very pleased with their work and would use them again. After the initial chimney cleaning and discussion of necessary further work it was easy to schedule the follow up work with the same technician. The two person team arrived in time window (although did not receive the 30-minute call ahead as requested). Only minor frustration was that the one technician left to do most of the work (while the other went to pick up necessary supplies) I felt was pressuring me to do additional work which the previous technician and I had already discussed was not necessary for our situation (converting to gas but not wood burning). Still very happy with their work and would use them again!

They were very responsive and came out quickly for the appointment. The service was quick and they were very clean considering they were doing a chimney sweep. The two technicians were very polite and professional.

Franko and his crew arrived on time and performed all the work according to schedule. Their behavior was very friendly, and their work was very professional in all aspects. Ramon did superb masonry work in matching the existing multicolored brick pattern, and an equally superb job in rebuilding the new chimney. I would classify him as a "masonry artist". When all was done, they did an excellent job cleaning up. After they finished on the 12th, Franko was not fully satisfied with the newly installed stainless steel damper so he up-graded the damper with no cost to us. Franko would not leave until he was fully satisfied that everything was done properly. A few days later, after the cement had dried, his team returned and waterproofed the whole chimney. We were impressed with the courtesy, professionalism, and results provided by Franko and his crew. I highly recommend Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps.

Terrible experience. They wanted to demolish the structural wall of my house without any building permits. They walked over the roof of my house, which could cause damage to the slate. Also they use clay liner for the chimney work which is very cheap and not very durable. The best practice in the industry is a metal flue liner. In sum, this is not a reliable company.
