Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps

They gave us an estimate to complete the entire job and my husband made an additional installment. They were scheduled to come back and complete the work the following week. We had explained that the work needed to be completed so the chimney could be painted before the end of October. They called the day before and told my husband that they would need to reschedule.

They chimney repair was fine, but the brick steps repair was poorly done. They had to come back 3 times to fix it and it just looks sloppy.

They did a fine job.. they didn't get there near the time they said but it didn't really matter since it was an outside job. I was onsite so not sure if they would have done the work without me there? Anyway liked the workers a lot and all is well.

Sixpenny found that the missing bird guard did not belong to my unit but to another unit in the building. They not only did not charge me for the service call, but re-installed the other units' bird guard no questions asked. They also sent me a photo of the correct bird guard in its proper place to send to my HOA as evidence that there was no violation to begin with. This is truly going above and beyond any expectation for quality service and I would whole-heartedly recommend them to anyone considering their services. BTW - they have been extremely nice and thoroughly professional to deal with on the phone.

The original service date was 8/24. Two men came for estimate. I told them that I did not need an estimate since I bought the Angie's list deal as I talked with the office of six penny a day before. They did know it. They were not ready for the job. Instead, they asked me if I need power wash. I said "No, thank you". One of the guy promised me that they would come next day and I would not have to be home. He told me that he would take a picture after the work and would send it to me, Next day, they were just finishing up their job when I came back from Dr.s appointment. I asked them for a picture. They forgot to take one and cleaned up the ladders and everything. They just showed me all the debris from my old chimney crown and told me I had a nice new crown up on the roof. I think so but I was disappointed (not provided a picture of their work). Technicians both days were friendly and nice.

Got a deal to clean gutters. Quick response although they charge extra if you have gutter guards. Good job

They informed us on arrival that they would have to cut a couple of holes into the furnace duct-work. Even though they repaired them, it would have been nice to know beforehand. They did a good job with the furnace vent cleaning as far as I could tell. However, they had a problem with the dryer vent. Our laundry room is on the top floor of our house and has an unusual venting design that uses a chase to get to the vent outside. They could not find which outside vent it went to. This turned out to be because the vent was disconnected in the chase that lead outside. The worker that could speak English, first said that there was no vent and that the dryer vented "internally". When I pointed out the duct-work leading from the bottom of the dryer he tried to back-peddle but couldn't come up with a explanation as to why it wasn't venting. He apologized and they left without doing anything. We called another company and they knew immediately what the issue was and how to fix it. Long story short; It was a major hazard to have the dryer venting into the chase. They were able to fix it for additional $$$. It was unprofessional for the original worker to just say "so sorry" and not even try to get to the bottom of what was wrong. Given this, I would not feel confident in using this company again in the future.

I never heard from them, and had to follow up myself to ask for the quote. Someone finally got back to me with an absurd total price for three walkways, with the choice of either concrete or brick. I asked for the three projects to be broken down individually, so I could choose one or two. I never heard from them again. This was a waste of my time, and very unprofessional of the firm.

We've had our chimney cleaned by Sixpenny for several years, they've always done a great job. We noticed that the bricks near the top of our chimney were starting to split and some of the grout needed to be replaced. The crown was also not as deep as it should be. I had the top rows of bricks replaced and a new crown installed. When we opened the chimney we also found several flu tiles that needed to be replaced. Sixpenny did a great work for us, very responsive and knowledgeable.

Sixpenny showed up on time, and began their work. They laid down protective gear so as not to scuff or damage the floors. The guys were very respectful of the house and made sure everything was cleaned up before they left. Most companies that clean Air ducts use a mobile pump (Similar to an industrial vacuum) to clean the ducts. Sixpenny uses an industrial vacuum truck, which is usually used for office buildings. The results are undeniable. Sixpenny opened up the HVAC system and went to work. I could not believe the amount of stuff they got out of the duct system. Everything from construction dust to barbie accessories (I do not have kids, so the barbie accessories are from the family that owned the house before me). This brings me to my point. We have had the duct system cleaned twice, and neither time did the previous company get the barbie accessories, which speaks volumes as to the quality of work that Sixpenny does. At the end of the job, we could actually feel the air in the house was cleaner, and any allergies we had have cleared up. Expensive, but well worth the money. I will be using Sixpenny again, next time I need the ducts cleaned.

We called to have the cable to our flue fixed in February and were told that someone could service the chimney after the snow melted. Sure enough, just a few weeks later, someone from the company proactively called us to schedule an appointment for the next week. The repairman came out as scheduled and we paid the price we were quoted over the phone--which was more than reasonable. Would absolutely call this company again.

Our chimney is a little old and the flue is ornery. These guys were great - came on time, did all the cleaning professionally, without leaving any soot or marks anywhere, fixed the flue and repaired a small hole in the masonry. Will use them again every year.

The contractor did an excellent job of cleaning the chimney. Their inspection identified cracks in the chimney liner, but it was not corroborated by other contractors. We did not use their services to perform other repairs on the chimney. We went with another contractor.

Honesty and integrity! I would definitely recommend them. The representative made a thorough examination and then said I did not need a new cap. He showed me how the existing cap worked. They could have just put a new cap on the chimney and I probably would not have known the difference. They offered to refund the up-front charge for the new cap. The representative was very pleasant and polite.a

I engaged this company to clean the gutters on my townhome. The date was set and I was at work when they were supposed to accomplish the job. I was called at work to let me know when they arrived and called again to let me know when the job was done. I specifically asked if the second floor gutters were cleaned. I was told all was done. They left an invoice on my front door indicating all work was done. When I arrived home I went to my bedroom ( on the third floor) and looked to see if the second floor gutters were cleared. They were not. I called the company and told them of the fraud. I was told a crew would be at my home at 8 AM the next morning to correct the problem. No apology, no offer of a discount or free repeat service. The next morning I called to see who was coming at 8AM. No supervisor or manage was planned to arrive. I threatened their business license and said I would contact the better business bureau. A manager finally arrived at 930AM. They corrected the clog. No offer of a refund or reduction. They claimed my backyard fence gate was not open. It has never been locked in the 15 years I have owned the townhouse. It needs to be open for gas and electric meter readings. I had to ask them to look at the third floor gutters to ensure they were cleaned. He had the Gaul to promote business of replacing my chimney cap because it was rusting. I cannot trust these folks Stay away!!!!

Two people came; they were done in 10 minutes.

Quoted a ridiculous price for the work. Have had multiple quotes, including for more expensive materials and by reputable companies, and they all came in considerably lower than the quote provided by this company. I assume they are in the "let's see what they'll pay" game.

They came out and did some work that went with quite satisfaction. There were a few problems and one which wasn't a brick problem that I didn't realize but they addressed that so they are fine. The 499 of the big deal cost was it, nothing additional. They were quite responsive.

The company was very professional and they performed an excellent chimney sweep service on our wood burning fireplace. They also did a full inspection to make sure we didn't have any fireplace issues or safety hazards. We would definitely recommend them for your chimney needs!

Provider never showed up for an estimate and was extremely unhelpful on the phone. Poor service and performance. Don't waste your time.

We purchased the house and moved in April 2014. Our paperwork indicated the chimney had some brick work done but we didn't see it had been swept. As a new owner with a shiny new Angie's List membership, I searched up sweeps and found a good deal - I thought. The techs were very nice, arrived promptly, and were not messy. However, they didn't tell me the chimney didn't need to be swept. Instead they made lots of noise and then showed me pictures of my chimney on a cracked iPad. It was a disaster in there! I was warned that unless I did the recommended $1,200.00 worth of repairs my chimney would remain unusable. If I did use it I would likely burn down the house! After they left I contacted the other contractor that had done work on the chimney - Leopold's Chimney Service. He was actually very close by when I called and came right to the house. I asked if he remembered the job from Sept 2013, and he did. He also told me he regularly serviced the chimney for the previous owners. He assured me there was NOTHING wrong with my chimney - even more he was adamant that my home would be safe all winter if I kept a fire burning everyday. I burned a cord of wood from 2014-15. We were complete novices and became very proficient at starting and maintaining a good slow burning fire. It was a wonderful, toasty winter. Leopold's is scheduled to clean my well used fireplace this week. Six Penny actually called to schedule a sweep - which is why I felt compelled to review after all.

The work took a few days and the repairmen were very professional, removing all broken brick everyday and securing tarps over the chimneys during off hours to ensure rain would not enter. The brick work on the chimneys all match and one cannot tell they were repaired/rebuilt. The office always responded to my questions and was willing to work with me on the schedule.

They arrived when they said they would. Got on top of the house used a hose and cleaned out the gutters. No problems. They suggested we get gutter guards and have the gutters cleaned every six months,

I contacted the company to assess a problem of water leaking into my firebox. They sent a representative out that was very punctual and professional. He provided an honest assessment, and did not try to sell me anything that I did not need. In the end he felt that the water was not coming through the brick work and told me this. I appreciated his honesty and diligence in trying to solve the problem. I would recommend this company, they offer professional free estimates.
