Description of Work: We contacted this company to obtain a proposal for a large screen deck project (500 sq ft). Their marketing rep. Mr. Eyere was punctual and had a lovely and in-depth presentation of their services. After the presentation we discussed our budget of about 30K. Mr. Eyere advised that for the size and complexity of our project that budget may not be realistic. We asked that he see what he and the company could come up with and we would go from there. The meeting was pleasant, productive and we felt encouraged. Mr. Eyere then spent time measuring the site and drawing out rough plans. However, we never heard back from anyone. I called and emailed several times and never received a return email or phone call from anyone at Power House. As it turns out, Mr. Eyere was correct in that our original budget was to low. However, since they never bothered to return our calls another contractor got the job at a much larger budget. Not sure what happened there....

Description of Work: Power House built a large screened, enclosed deck for me with Brazilian Cherry wood floors and ceilings. They also built a marble portico, a circular stone wall to surround the driveway, water features, along with a 1,500 foot addition to my house (including an exercise room, a laundry room, a piano room, a master bedroom closet, and a sitting room). The work was meticulous; the craftsmanship superb; and the price was reasonable (highly competitive with comparable firms). They also supervised subcontractors with great care, intervening to require the work to be redone to ensure quality even when I did not notice the minor errors in workmanship. They performed all of this work within 10 months and relied on a team of craftsmen who are second to none. I strongly recommend this contractor.

We got off to a slow start but everything went well. We live in a neighborhood with very picky and strictly enforced architectural review board guidelines, and it was a bit hard to convince the Powerhouse folks that when we wanted a permit, we really meant it. Once that was straightened out, things went fine.
Description of Work: Powerhouse removed much of the old wood and replaced it, keeping only the wood that was still sound and compliant to code to help contain the cost. They did quality work, and enhanced the beauty of the porch, as well as bringing it up to code.

Overall, everything went well. Steve was very responsive and he was nice to deal with. The only reason I didn't give them an overall rating of "A" was because of dealings with my contractor (Nelson). He was a really nice guy, but I didn't feel like he kept me very well informed. That's not to say he wasn't trying to contact me - because he did try calling and left me voice mails, however, one morning I looked out my back door and my porch was gone. I guess I would have just liked to have given them the verbal "ok" to get started before they just went ahead and removed my back porch. But, other than that, I'm very happy with it! The porch is gorgeous!
Description of Work: I had my back porch removed and a new one built. The new porch that they built was BEAUTIFUL and I'm very happy with it. The only reason I didn't give them an overall rating of "A"

I reached out to several deck contractors to solicit estimates through Angie's List email option. Within about an hour, I received a response from the owner. Although the work I needed done was not a part of their normal scope, he offered a recommendation on a contractor to potentially perform the tasks I needed. I was impressed by the responsiveness (on a Saturday of a holiday weekend, no less). The customer service up front makes this company worth contacting. Certainly if I or anyone I know in the area is looking for a new or complete deck, patio, or other outdoor space remodel, this company is on the list.

Sales team was enthusiastic, knoledgeable, professional and thorough. They came and met with us at least 3 times reviewing drawings/sketches/ideas for the design to ensure we got the deck we wanted. They came to the sales consultations with many samples (colors, materials, brochures etc) that made the decision making process easy. They provided a detailed estimate and a contract that was easy to read and understand and clearly outlined exactly what they would do. The work crews were led by a fantastic supervisor who engaged us often to ensure we were getting what we wanted (at one point after the deck was framed, we decided on a design change and the crew was very easy to work with -- providing revised estimates in a timely manner and explaining and coordinating all the associated code/inspection issues associated with the change. The crews showed up on time, appeared always to work hard (no standing around, leaning on shovels). They finished the deck to our satisfaction on time and within the budget we had agreed upon -- there were no surprise issues that came up. They cleaned up the construction area in a very thorough manner (we have 2 dogs, so needed to be sure there were no nails/materials left). Post completion, we were visited by both the Supervisor and the Sales lead to make sure that we were happy with the service.
Description of Work: Demolition of existing deck and design and installation of new (larger) deck. Services included all building permits/licenses/inspections as well as completion of all documents required for HOA approval.

We were solicited by this company in the form of their flyer. I decided to check out their website since we were in the market for a deck. When we bought our house, it did not have a deck on it. So I checked Angie's list to see what others were saying about this company and it was nothing but grade A's all across the board so that is what ultimately made my decision in selecting this company. Lenny Scarola, the company's president came to our house personally and discussed with us in detail what his company could offer us and we told him basically what we were looking for and between him and Steve Edwards, the project manager, they came up with a fantastic beautiful free standing deck design complete with PVC deck boards which have a lifetime guarantee and lights installed on our stairs. Our deck is absolutely perfect and far better than I could have ever imagined it would be! The men they sent out to do the job were very quick, thorough and did not cut corners. It took only a week and a half the job was complete! I also decided to go with this company because they do offer financing as well and that appealed to me very much! They can do a deferred payment plan which works out wonderfully for us. I can't thank them enough for the quality work they have provided us. I HIGHLY recommend this company if you are looking for QUALITY in every aspect of a job! They are wonderful!!!
Description of Work: This company built us an absolutely beautiful free standing deck off the back of our house. They used #1 pressure treated lumber for the entire framing of the deck and PVC boards that mimic the hardwood floors that are throughout the inside of our house. We have already had comments about how they love the way the deck boards look like hard woods and that was the whole idea. We LOVE our new deck! Just in time for spring.

We just wanted to tell you how happy we are with our new deck from Powerhouse?. The quality and courtesy they provided during the sale, construction and acceptance phases was remarkable. The program they laid out for us was followed every step of the way and has been the best construction experience in our lifetime. The attention to detail and upgrades over industry and code standards has given us confidence that this product is well worth the reasonable investment we made. The market rate and competitive pricing make their product a quality selection and well worth not going with the low bid philosophy. I would not hesitate to recommend their product to anyone and think it should be included in your recommended list of preferred providers.

Power House Remodeling knows how to earn customers' business and maintain a strong reputation. After my wife and I had drawn up an initial contract with Power House, we decided to hold off on it until we were certain of our tax liability that would come a few months later since we had just bought a house and moved from California a few months before. Instead of losing their cool at the prospect of lost business. Lenny and Steve of Power House maintained a calm and professional demeanor asking us to keep them in mind when we did decide to go ahead with the deck. After tax season, we decided to build the deck. Naturally, our first call was to Power House. Not only did they provide us a great price on our deck, but they were also able to complete our deck ahead of schedule at the beginning of July (with plenty of summer left to enjoy it) instead of our initial quote of the end of August! They would have completed it even earlier had it not been for the chronic rain that continually delayed their schedule. During the final inspection of our deck, Steve patiently demonstrated how to set the timer for the deck lights and agreed to send one of his crew back over to fix a squeaking board. I came to realize right then that when Power House says that they take pride in their work, they mean it! Thank yoiu so much Lenny, Steve, and the rest of the Power House gang for your commitment to honesty, professionalism, and patience throughout the entire process of building our deck. We have already begun to enjoy it by grilling out and simply taking a little time to spend with each other. I know that we will continue to enjoy it for many years into the future. Thanks again!

Overall, the job went great. Power House, once everything cleared through the county and our HOA, got straight to work. The foreman, working within our schedule, came out (to NOVA, during rush hour on 95!) to present us the different types of stone to use for the patio. Walking with us around the house, he brought the information booklet as well as the stone samples so we could see what would match best with our home. Once we picked the stone, the crew started the next [business] day! (we met the foreman on a Friday, they did the measuring on that Saturday, and then construction that Monday morning) The crew was done with the patio in two days. However, when my husband and I got home from work and looked at the finished product, I wasn't thrilled with the [wood] stairs they had put in: there were exposed nails, the boards weren't rounded, the wood brands were exposed and obvious, and there were splinters everywhere. I was NOT happy with this, considering how much money we had spent; the stairs (only three steps) looked like I had done them myself - which, based on what effort was put into the, I could have!!! I called the owner of Power House immediately. After I relayed the description of the stairs, he told me that he would come out and look at them personally - he said that from the sound of it, the stairs were not the grade lumber and workmanship that was detailed in the original contract. After he came out, and he saw the stairs, he said that we were right in being concerned and that he would have them redone immediately, at HIS expense, but on OUR timetable - which meant that they were redone the very next day!! The owner said that while the crew that build our patio is wonderful at stonework (they are, our patio is a testament to that), they are not as comfortable with woodwork as the other wood-working [deck] crews for Power House. Even though we had a brief moment of frustration with Power House, the professionalism of the owner, the excellent craftsmanship of his crews, and their ability to work on an incredibly quick timetable proved that Power House truely deserves their EXCELLENT BBB rating. Power House Remodeling is a great company to work with, and we WILL work with them in the future to continue making our home and backyard a wonderful family living space. This company comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED from a couple who is conservative with their money and did plenty of research before choosing Power House. You will not be disappointed!
Description of Work: Originally, we were looking for either a deck or patio - something that would make our outdoor space useable. We talked to a couple different companies, but they were all quoting us at least two to three thousand more (for less square feet) for just a deck! When Power House came out, he was able to talk very consrtuctively with us to not only work within our budget, but to give us several ideas of how to give us a deck / patio, but still remain with our budget. Originally, Mike drew up a very elaborate (and gorgeous) patio, but it was just outside our price range. After talking with the owner, however, we were able to negotiate a great deal for a large (~300sq ft) stone patio and stairs. Some great benefits about working with Power House, once we solidified the patio we wanted: 1) Power House did all the neessary legwork for the permit approvals with the county - we didn't have to deal with any of that legal mess; 2) we live in a community that has a HOA, and Power House took all of the paperwork and permits to our HOA, saving us a lot of personal time and effort; 3) finally, Power House has a very nice additional feature: we were able to do partial financing through them (after we put some money down), which further eased the financial burden of getting a luxury item in today's market!! Bottom line, we were decided on a ~300sqft rectangle stone patio with wood stairs - and Power House would also tear down the ugly property fence AND haul away all debris! Also, while we opted for a simple patio at this time, we did talk to the owner of Power House about adding to it in the future (stone plant holders that double as benches, trellis' etc...)

Power House was the second contractor we met with and they were clearly the better company. The representative knew the area, knew how to work with the homeowner's association, and knew what products would be approved by the HOA. The price was straight forward and low, without the gimmicks and "discounts" the competitor tried to use to make us feel like we were getting a deal. The representative valued our time and was able to find out what we wanted to know and provide the information without trying to upsell. We had a difficult time getting county approval, but Power House stayed in contact and as soon as it was approved, they sent the crew right over and work was completed within 9 days.

Mike, the salesrepresentative, met with us on 2 occassions. His presentation was sharp, to the point, no nonsense and very detailed. He brought examples in pictures and materials. Once the contract was signed, the estimated start and finish date were exact. The workmanship of the new deck is examplary. We could not have asked for a better company to built our deck. We have no hesitation to refer Power House. They are superb!

We needed a two level deck so that we could walk out the kitchen door onto it, but not allow it to block the windows in our basement. We also wanted the deck to follow the shape of the back of the house. Not a simple design! We knew we wanted a composite material after removing about fifty thousand splinters from various feet from the wooden deck at a previous house. (Not to mention what a pain taking care of wood is.) We laid out our needs to Power House and their representative drew up beautiful plans for us on the spot. He suggested a diamond inlay in both sections and integrated low voltage lighting which we had not considered. The price was fair and building commenced in a few weeks. (That was because of our schedule, not theirs.) The guys at Power House handled all the building line restriction issues, permits, etc., for us. As work progressed, we considered adding gates on the stairs and a trex enclosure around our air conditioning units. The owner advised against both. We had deliberately made our stairs rather wide, so he felt the weight of such large gates would cause them to sag, which would be unattractive at best and cause them to function poorly at worst. He also felt the cost of enclosing the air conditioning units was not worth the expense and suggested some other ideas we could handle on our own. It is truly extraordinary to work with people who could have easily taken our money, but were up front and honest with us instead. Unfortunately for them - well, what are ya gonna do - they began work in the middle of January. The earth was frozen solid, the weather was below freezing, it even snowed on them. However, the Power House guys were out there every day, all day. Even on the weekend! You couldn't meet a nicer bunch of guys either. They really knew their stuff and it seemed they had no problems at all. (Well, other than hacking away at the rock hard ground.) Fast forward and the deck is just gorgeous. The color is perfect for our backyard, the inlaid designs are lovely and the low voltage lighting produces exactly the right amount of light. We couldn't be happier with it!

Work started on Nov. 17 (Reston Association approval took nearly 6 weeks) and finished within the estimated time for completion; some time was lost because of the boulders the original builder had buried. My wife and I were very pleased with the professionalism of Greg and Jay, the carpenters. Their attention to detail included rejecting some of the 6x6 porch posts they felt were inferior. The extra work they put into the trim makes the whole project look absolutely stunning. We would definitely use Power House again and highly recommend their services to others.
Description of Work: Power House demoed our old 250 sq. ft. deck and replaced it with a 280 sq. ft. screened-in porch with a gable roof plus a 96 sq. ft. deck extension. The porch flooring was tongue-in-groove, standard and the deck flooring is Trex. The porch exterior is covered with Azek trim. The screening is opening specific rather than wrap-around. The existing French doors were replaced with a new door that swings into the porch. Electrical subcontract work included the installation of a ceiling fan mount and 3 electrical outlets. The stairs from the deck have 3 recessed lights.
