I give this company 5 stars, and in particular it's senior technician, Ken, who installed a new condenser on a unit owned by my mother, a senior citizen. Ken arrived, started work and was then pummeled by a particularly intense thunderstorm. Nearing the end of the workday, he could have left it for the next day, but instead waited out the worst of the storm in his truck, then, while the storm slowed, finished up and was pretty much soaked when he left. Capable, professional and obviously willing to go the extra mile to help cool the house during this intense heat-wave. We're grateful for his service!

I have been a 20+ year customer of Nichols & Phipps and this is the first time that I had a bad experience. Eight years ago they put in a new heat pump and indoor unit. I have the service plan where they come 2 times a year to check it. They were there in November and said everything was great. On December 9 (I believe) they came to check why I had little heat and the unit continuously was running. A technician came that day and after about 3 or 4 hours informed me that I needed a new compressor. He informed me that his manager would call. I waited about an hour and then called. I was informed that a new compressor (parts and labor) would be $2400. He also discussed the option of a new unit which would be about $7,000. I opted to just replace the compressor. I was informed the compressor had to be ordered and would take 2 to 3 business days to get here, he anticipated it would arrive Monday and they would be at my house on Tuesday. Monday before leaving work I called just to verify the appointment, and was told that the part was not in and probably wouldn't be until Wednesday so he said they would be there Thursday. Had I not called I would have taken a day off from work for nothing. They did come on that Thursday, December 17. The technician was at my house all day working on replacing the compressor. When he came upstairs he said it wasn't fixed and he needed a new part a reversing valve. He would be back ASAP to replace that. I took ASAP as the next day, however I was unable to verify as the office was already closed. I took the next day office. When I called to see where he was I was told that the part had to be ordered and they would be there Monday to replace. At this point I became very upset and told them I was supposed to leave on vacation the next day and if I had to wait and leave Tuesday I may as well not go. So, I was told they would go and pick the part up and be at my house on Saturday. Ky returned on Saturday and again, was there pretty much all day, but the heat was now working. When he gave me the bill it was for approximately $4100. The new price was never discussed with me and when I received the bill it just said parts and labor. It was not a detailed itemized bill. I paid the bill, but was not happy. Had I known I would have goine with a new system. I feel the biggest problem was the lack of communication on the part of Nichols & Phipps. I will say the technical was very polite and did his job. I told him my frustration was not with him. However, I am not sure I will be using this company again.

Nichols Phipps was hired to service the HVAC system due to loud noise when the system was turned on per home inspector. The AC was working fine other than the noise. the technician came out to the home, took off the AC panel and connected his gauges to get a reading. The panel was off the entire time. I was told that the system was getting a high reading. The technician called his supervisor for help. I was quite concerned at this point. I was then told that the system's compressor was malfunctioning. It seemed strange to me due to the home being extremely cool. I did not feel comfortable with his explanation. I then called the office and paid the service call fee so they could leave the property. I immediately called the homeowners home warranty company, they sent out an HVAC company the next day. The second company found nothing wrong with the system. I called Nichols Phipps's manager to explain what had happened he proceeded to argue with me and then offered to refund $89.00 which I have yet to see.

Quick, efficient, expert repair work. A lot of the plumbing in our house had been DIY work that obviously didn't hold up, and Nichols & Phipps has been our go-to professional source for expert plumbers to fix issues as we find them.

I had Nicholls & Phipps replace my furnace and AC about nine years ago. The paperwork included information that the furnace manufacturer (Goodman) had a ten-year warranty on parts. My blower stopped working, so I contacted Nicholls & Phipps because I felt they had done a decent job earlier, and wanted to reward their good work with my loyalty. The technician told me I needed a new blower motor, and gave me a bid to replace it, which was not a lot less than replacing the furnace altogether. I noted that the blower motor was on a ten-year warranty that had not expired. Mr. Brian Reeder of CFS Service (which apparently bought Nicholls & Phipps some time ago) told me that Goodman did not have a record of that serial number being registered with them, so the warranty on the $700+ motor would not be honored. Naturally, I was not happy about this, and informed them of that fact. He told me that the liabilities of Nicholls & Phipps were not his liabilities - that he had purchased the name and assets, but liabilities were not his problem. When I checked the paperwork, I noted that the serial number on the paperwork did not match the serial number on the unit (which is the one Nicholls & Phipps had installed). The serial number on the unit is under a cover that would take tools to remove, so unless I had made an effort to check such a detail, I would not be able to know that they had made such an error. I presented all of this information to Mr. Reeder, pointing out that they were the cause of the problem, and that they were the only ones who could correct it. I also noted that if I did not hear from them by noon on Monday, May 4, that I would consider that to be ignoring my situation and that I would find another way to fix the problem and would be posting the record of this event on various vendor-rating sites. He called me on Tuesday, May 5, saying "call me," but by then, I had begun dealing with another vendor, and I had zero interest in further dealings with Nicholls & Phipps, CFS service, or Mr. Reeder.

EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT!!! When my furnace began making serious sounding noises, indicating to me an imminent failure, my architect recommended I contact CFS Service Corporation. He had enjoyed a long history of clients who used this company with consistent success. I am very happy that I took his advice! The CFS technician arrived promptly and was able to make the repair. He was highly knowledgeable and took the time to fully explain the problem to me. He did not try to sell me anything, but he did confirm my fear, that my 28 year old unit was barely hanging on. As a result of his exceptional customer service, honesty and knowledge, I requested and received a very fair quote and had my new unit installed that following day. The service technicians were quality individuals through and through and could not have been any nicer and respectful of me and my home. Once the work was complete, my old unit was removed and they swept and cleaned the inside floor and my back yard patio. When you are calling around looking for the best deal and weighing all aspects of choosing a HVAC company, I highly recommend you choose CFS for their exceptional customer service, sense of urgency, honesty, integrity, and quality workmanship. You will be so happy you did!!!

On 10/5 I noticed a weird spot on my ceiling, and upon further inspection discovered that the drywall was soggy due to a leak in the bathroom above. I wasn't sure if the leak was in the shower, toilet or sink, so I stopped using the master bathroom altogether, and called Nichols and Phipps the next morning. They'd repaired a leaking tub that damaged our dining room ceiling earlier this year (previous owners seemed to REALLY like bad DIY work). N and P arranged to have someone come to our home later the same day, where he quickly diagnosed the problem and stopped the source of the leak. He arranged to come back the next day to replace the improperly sealed pipe that couldn't be repaired, and took exactly as much time as estimated.
Description of Work: Repaired a leak in the toilet in my master bathroom which damaged the ceiling below it.

The service and quality of the job were just fine. But I paid $350 for 30 minutes of work and about $25 in parts. I feel completely taken advantage of. Perhaps $700 an hour is the going rate for plumbing services. But I doubt it.

We really liked Nichols and Phipps. They did a great job. They were very honest and explained the different options we had well. We end up getting a real good air conditioning unit. We have a three story townhome and the air conditioning we had just wasn't strong enough to cool the whole home down. So we got a stronger unit and it works great. We also used them in the past to check our gas water heater. It was a very small problem and I don't think they even charged us or if they did, it was barely anything. We've used them many times over the past ten years and always liked them a lot. They're very responsive and almost immediately call you back.

Description of Work: This company was referred to me from my insurance company and the cost of the service was covered under my plan. Yesterday, the insurance company sent another company out to fix my heater or which by late evening was no longer working. Today they reached to CFS and now I have a system working properly and a new thermostat. Yesterday, the other company saw that the builder installed the wrong thermostat and gave me opposite directions of how to use it...causing the air conditioning to run instead of heat...They were more interested in service plans and adding more features to the house. This was not the case with CFS! Jason arrived...assessed the problem...checked all facets of the system and then called my insurance company American Home Shield to take care of the problem. I now have warmth I can count on, especially through this arctic spell of weather we are having now in Virginia. Thank You CFS and especially, Jason for responding so quickly to this heat emergency with professionalism, kindness and assurance I will now have heat. I would definitely recommend this company for your heating needs:-)

I originally had an appointment to fix an electrical outlet for Wed. morning, Dec. 13. I was told that I was the second stop and he estimated an arrival time of 9 am. By 11:00 no one had arrived or called so I called Nicholls and Phipps to see how soon they would be coming. I was told that I was no longer the second stop and that is why they had not arrived yet. I said I would cancel an 11:30 appointment if necessary but could keep it and be back by 12:30. He said they could come at 1:00 so we rescheduled. I returned home at 12:45 and waited. At 3:00 I called again and was told that the repairman had a doctor's appointment and would not be coming that day at all. I asked why no one had bothered to call and tell me. He apologized and offered to reschedule. I was not inclined to do so but he promised to send someone on Thursday, the 15th at 8 am sharp so I agreed. At 8:30 on Thursday no one had arrived or called so I called back and was told that I was no longer the first stop on the schedule. I asked that my appointment be canceled since I felt that I could not trust anything that I was being told.

In order to get its own designated line, they had to run a wire from the fuse box in the basement, through the ceiling, and up into the garage. He set up the compressor and even took the care to make sure the line in the garage wasn’t exposed. He was just excellent! They charged us $600 less than another quote I received! They were knowledgeable, set up everything perfectly, and the price was unbeatable!
Description of Work: We had a large air compressor that my son was setting up in the garage. We were requiring a higher voltage outlet.

I was very satisfied with them. They showed up on time and performed the needed services. I was very happy with the outcome of my heating and air conditioning system. Their price was very competitive because I had compared it to the other companies. Their service technician was very professional and well groomed. Their responsiveness was excellent. We have used them off and on for years. They have replaced my AC unit twice in the last 15 years and have replaced my water heater as well. I really trust them to give me an honest price and to be responsive. I have never been disappointed with their work. We even got an inline air filter when we had the new AC unit put in and they brought us extra free filters. We highly recommend them to anyone.

When I made the appointment, I asked specifically if I could be the first person they visited in the morning because I had to go to work and they said yes. That morning they never showed up and then they said that they came at 2 pm. Of course, I wasn't there and they never called even when I had given them my phone numbers and asked them to do so. Finally, they did the job and they charged me $600!!! I had asked them how much it would be in the beginning, but they had told me that it depended on the hours, etc, so I told them to come anyways. I never thought that it would cost me half that much. The price didn't even include the sink.
Description of Work: I had a small pedestal sink with leaks on both pipes and it was also a little wobbly too. They came and had to take it apart and reinstall it in order to fix the problem. The job was finished in about three hours.

I like the fact that the repairman for this company took the time to answer my questions and show me what and why the part needed to be replaced. Never got the impression he was trying to sell me not needed repairs. I was very pleased with the work done by this company that I decided to sign a one year maintenance contract for my A/C and Heating systems. Cost breakdown for the repairs are $185 parts and labor plus $185 for a one year maintenance contract.

The gentleman was on time and friendly. He completed his thorough inspections in a timely manner. He wrote detailed descriptions of his findings on the invoice. I have used Nichols and Phipps for about five years and will continue to do so.
