Response from NEIGHBORHOOD GARAGE DOORS
Yes, we are a small family owned business. The company consists of my wife, myself and my son. It is true that we went out in response to a home warranty initiated work order. We arrived and found that the problem was with their counterbalance system (broken springs) which was not covered under the home warranty that the customer has. They are required by the home warranty contract to pay the trade fee, which was $75. The owner was informed of this and we gave them a bid of $400 to fix their problem. This is our standard fee for this repair. We collected the $75 fee and told them that if they wanted our services for the $400, we would subtract the $75 from the $400 bid. We went out and replaced the broken springs and collected the balance of $325. In essence, they were not charged a service fee for their home warranty. The door was operating fine after replacing the springs. The owner called a day later stating that her lights did not work and that we had done something to the feature of their operator that turns the light on when breaking the beam of the photo eyes. We had not turned off this feature. I told her how to fix this and she insisted that this was a recall on previous work through her home warranty. I went out the next day to check the problem. As to the light that would not turn on, the light bulb wasn't screwed in tight enough. I turned the light feature back on and asked the owner to call her home warranty company to submit a recall ticket and she refused to make the call. Therefore, I put the light feature back to the way I found it. I informed our home warranty company, that covered this owner, of all of the above. To this day, we have not received a work order to go back to this property. I assume that these people have been contacted by the warranty company and were informed that this was, in fact, not a recall on the original work order.
