They were excellent. They were incredible. Their program manager took care of everything. I would tell him what I needed and he would tell the contractors to do it. I didn't have to micro manage; like the electrician, he didn't do what we wanted initially and didn't want to come back fix it but the project manager made him come back to fix it. You have to have leverage with them because they do a lot of business with these guys so as an individual they might say "I'm not going to help you" but with Mike Garcia they do business with them so they do it. They did a great job. They did the whole basement and they did a fantastic job. The sink was just a minor thing. I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Mike Garcia Construction came to fix something for free. There was something with the sink like the seal, I think it wasn't quite right so they just resealed it. It was relatively simple. They had a plumber, subcontractor, come in. We still using everything that they did in the basement like the family room, office, bedroom and they remodeled the bathroom that was down there. They did a completely basement remodel.

They are fantastic. The warranty was gone and they still did the work at cost, which they didn't have to do. They go above and beyond to make sure that you are a satisfied customer.
Description of Work: We used Mike Garcia Construction to do an addition on our house 6 years ago. Recently we had a shower pan fail and they came in and did the repairs.

The team from Garcia's were always professional and very friendly and approachable. We encountered problems that were beyond the scope of what we knew to be wrong at the outset. They kept us informed and consulted with us at every turn. They sourced all the additional help necessary and kept the project on schedule. We wouldn't hesitate to contract with them again.
Description of Work: Full basement remodel. Necessary corrections to past homeowner remodel that included non-permitted electrical wiring, plumbing, and HVAC ducting. It was a full gut and re-do, new wall framing and infrastructure. Beautiful result, crafted with creativity.

The letter (attached below) should give everyone a clear look into how we viewed this company. From beginning to end we were treated more like family than customers. This has to be the most professional organization in the trade. They were simply amazing, not only in what they did but more importantly how they did it. And don't believe for a minute that this project went smoothly for them. Once the demolition part was finished they discovered all sorts of unforeseen and unanticipated complications. And it was here that you really begin to appreciate the depth of their expertise. The Mike Garcia Company actually has several divisions: custom homes, commercial development, and remolding. So no matter what comes up they will have someone they can bring over who been there...done that. And they worked with us every step of the way to insure that they are providing exactly the look we were striving for. We could not be more pleased. Here is the follow up letter we sent: Hi Michael; Things are close to wrapping up here...only a few small items left like painting, landscaping, and sheet rock to go before the project is fully completed. And since we are so close to finishing I thought I would pass along a few observations and comments while they are still fresh in my mind. Firstly, the deck and under-deck are absolutely beautiful...a true tribute to your vision, planning, and the standards of the Mike Garcia Company. Diane and I could not be more pleased with the results! At times the challenges faced seemed overwhelming with all the and quot;gotcha'sand quot; that were encountered in the course of completing this project. And here it all came down to your crew. We will be eternally grateful to Mike Mott for his level headed supervision and to Billy Neff and Ryan Deboer for their astonishing craftsmanship and dedication to perfection. Quite frankly we do not know that individuals like Billy and Ryan still existed in this industry. This project truly belonged to them from start to finish and we are in awe of not only their ability and skills but also their character. If ever a Garcia team qualified for special recognition this is the team! Every time we are on the deck our thoughts will go back to how your team brought 'the magic' to this project...it is the ultimate compliment. With gratitude, Bob and Diane
Description of Work: We had an old wooden deck taken down and a new composite deck installed. In addition to the deck we also had them construct an under-deck complete with paddle fans, lighting, and decorative arches designed to hide built in sunscreens. They also installed a 15KW standby generator and connected it into the house. The generator will automatically pick up and power specific items in the event of a power failure. It was important to us that this new structure blend seamlessly into the look and feel of the house and property.

The best thing about Mike Garcia Construction is that they stand behind their work 100%. Whenever there was anything to work through, their Project Manager - Henry took care of it - we did not have the stress of convincing people to meet our specifications. If something was not what we wanted at first, Mike Garcia updated it to fit our needs. For example, the carpet-layers initially did not carpet the inside of the office closet. Mike Garcia asked them to come back and do this, and they did it immediately and well - no discussion, no debate. It was just done as we had asked and as we had wanted. Also, the electrician at one point turned off our existing dual light switch because he did not think we wanted it - but we did! I mentioned this to Henry, and the electrician came back out and fixed it for no extra charge. We felt we could really talk to Mike Garcia's people, including the contractors that were part of the process. They were courteous, worked well and quickly, and left the place cleaner than they found it. We were initially really nervous about remodeling an entire floor of our house. We were also on a deadline because the basement had to be finished before my daughter was born. Mike Garcia came through for us, and exceeded all of our expectations. A few weeks ago, 6-years after our basement remodeling project was completed, the sink in our basement started to pull away from the wall a little bit. It turns out that the plumber had chosen not to bolt it in, thinking that the caulk would hold (which it did for several years). Anyway, I figured it was a long-shot, but I called up Mike Garcia to ask if they could help? They came out the same week, assessed what was needed, then brought in a plumber and fixed the sink within a week. At no charge. It was amazing! To see a vendor really stand behind their work like that is rare in this market. Mike Garcia Construction has integrity. And they are really nice to work with. I find most vendors to be a hassle - Mike Garcia is a pleasure to do business with! 6 years later, we still LOVE our basement. It is the nicest part of our house. Someday we will have Mike Garcia remodel the rest of our house!
Description of Work: Mike Garcia Construction did an absolutely wonderful job finishing / remodeling our basement in late 2006. They are one of the BEST vendors we have ever worked with! I had a high-risk pregnancy during the remodeling processing, which required me to have low-activity and low-stress, and I was SO very grateful that we chose Mike Garcia to work with - they were a dream! Our basement started out completely unfinished. Within 3 months from September - November 2006, we had a beautiful, finished basement with an extra bedroom, a full bathroom, an office, and a family room. We now have nice extra closets, shelves, and built-in lighting. All this work was done professionally and to our specifications. All of the Mike Garcia employees and contractors were especially pleasant and easy to work with - they cared if they got the job right. Our job involved Framing-up Rooms, Dry Walling, Installing Lights, Installing a new Sink and Tiles, Carpeting, Painting (two colors for wall and trim), Building Custom Shelves, and Creating new Closets. Mike Garcia performed the work on-time, on-budget, as we requested, and beautifully. We highly, highly recommend this vendor to anyone considering remodeling or home building.

Still in early stages , will repost after completion.
Description of Work: Still in the planning stages of my project. I met with 6 other contractors before MG. My experience with this company has been vastly different. They have invested time and effort in the project, with endless patience. I know they are the right choice moving forward.

He did not seem interested and did not receive our phone calls. He seemed interested at first and come out here once or twice. Then we had a house fire. He came out here twice and talked as if he knew what he was doing. Eventually, he became disinterested and didn't call us back.

Response from Mike Garcia Construction
Mike Garcia Construction is a 31 year-old company, successfully built on a sound reputation that was achieved by going above and beyond the expectations of our clients. Since no work was performed, nor a proposal even given to the Members, we find it very distasteful that such an offensive and inaccurate report was posted. To summarize, Mike Garcia Construction was not contacted until after the house fire. The first meeting was on 11/4/11 with the member and Carl Juran, MGC’s remodeling estimator. The extent of the damage could not be determined as the electricity was turned off, and the insurance report had not yet been provided. It was understood that a follow-up meeting was needed once the insurance report was delivered. Carl received it on 11/9/11 and immediately had concerns. Carl personally called Jay Blake, insurance adjuster for Balboa Insurance, to discuss the deficiencies in both the description of work needed to be done to repair the fire damage, as well as the amount of money Balboa Insurance proposed to give in order to complete the work. Jay agreed to do another evaluation and resend the report This was explained to the members at a follow-up meeting on 11/17/11. The work they wanted done could not be done with the money the insurance company proposed. Once the revised insurance report was received, another meeting would be arranged. Again, MGC initiated this revised report, on behalf of the members, in order to minimize the overages the members would incur due to their “wish-list” of projects not related to the damage. Please remember, at this time, Mike Garcia Construction still has not given a proposal, charged for time spent, or written a contract with the members. All employee time and fuel consumed to attend these meetings are unrecoverable. A second report, dated 12/6/11, was received and a third meeting was arranged on 12/16/11. The deficiencies and discrepancies with the report were again explained to the members. For example, the insurance company proposed replacing 27 squares of shingles. In order for the shingles to match the rest of the house, as they should, 34 squares needed to be replaced. It was proposed that 1 ½ sheets of 4’X8’ drywall be torn out and replaced in the dining room. The house had a fire and was sprayed with water. The dining room needs (10) 4’X12’sheets replaced. At that time, the member said he completely understood. The member was still trying to contact the main insurance representative to discuss the shortfalls in the claim. At the conclusion of the meeting, it was understood that there was NOTHING further for Mike Garcia Construction to do until the insurance claim was resolved. As if attending three meetings and personally contacting the homeowner’s insurance adjuster wasn’t enough, Mike Garcia Construction now has to invest the time and money to refute these outrageous claims (that can be posted by anyone having a bad day) that threaten our livelihood. This would not have been our first fire insurance job. We’ve been able to take this kind of tragedy and turn it into a positive experience for homeowners by restoring the home to a better-than-original condition with very little out-of-pocket expense. This is obviously not going to be something attainable on this particular project as the prospective client is undoubtedly mistaken on the sequence of events as well as which company was working on their behalf.

There were some bumps along the way. Their vanity provider was totally incompetent. It took three deliveries to get the cabinets that were ordered. I did feel that they were a little heavy on the nickel and diming of parts of the project. They were insistant that they had to charge .90 cent per square foot for painting the bathroom a color other than white. After all the problems with the vanity they did credit the painting charges back as well as the cost and install of the crown moulding.Other than that the company was professional and went out of their way to make it right and provide a finished room that we are happy with. Their people were fun, courteous, prompt and never failed to clean up after themselves. I would not hesitate to use them again for projects and we will be calling them again.

I met Mike Garcia back in 1984, when I was looking for a builder to build my first home in Woodbridge. He had recently started his own company and prior had worked for another custom builder that I was already acquainted with. He came highly recommended by this builder and other homeowners that had used him to build their homes. I met with Mike to discuss the details of my home and immediately felt at ease with the knowledge and expertise he displayed through the entire process. At the time, I was extremely busy with my work, had two small children, and my wife worked, and I needed someone whom could manage and supervise this process without spending a lot of my time for Q and A's. With the help of Mike, his wife Robin, and their exceptional staff, the construction process was extremely pleasurable and easy. The quality of materials and workmanship far superseded my expectations. I have used Mike's company for additional add-ons to my home and have always been pleased with his prompt response and timely completions. I again, in 2007, contracted with Mike Garcia Construction to build a "Custom" home in the Haymarket area. Once again the construction phases and selection processes went like clockwork. The awards and achievements his company has received shows in the quality and construction of the house I now reside in. I would recommend to anyone, who is the market of purchasing or building a new home, to take the time and talk to this company before making your final decision.
