They took responsibility for some of my missing items and then under offered a $ amount for half of it. I counter offered then they denied my counter offered and counter offered their original amount. Not happy at all as some of these things had sentimental value in addition to the cost to replace them.

We first used Moholland 23 years before to move into the home we just sold. We called again as they did an amazing job the first time. On both of these moves they again took great care of our belongings.
Description of Work: We recently had two moves to our new home, one before the sale of our previous home and one after the sale. Moholland took care of both moves. Cost is for both moves.

This is an indirect review, since they added an additional $600 to our move by their behavior. They clearly enjoyed being the bully and seemed to feel that they had the upper hand since they are 'miliary movers' and 'work for the government'. I find it hard to believe that this type of behavior is allowed by a major mover (Mayflower). They went out of their way to insult everyone around them and to attempt to dominate (like a school-yard bully tormenting all that comes in their path and that they can lash out at). If you can avoid giving them any business that would be wise. This approach to moving should not be condoned or rewarded. If we lived in a police state where those with connections always got to beat up the others, then these guys would gladly be slinging the sticks.
Description of Work: Blocked a loading dock and crowed about it -- these guys are the worst combination of rude, arrogant, and mean.

They were supposed arrive sometime between 12 o'clock and 2 o'clock they arrived and it's 1:59. Before they even arrived multiple people from a company called me to see how the packout was going; thought that was a bit irritating. It was a small pack out; once they got to the house they worked pretty quickly. They laid a runner on the floor; was raining so I didn't get any mud on the carpet which is appreciated. Overall, did a good job. They cleaned up after themselves: picked up the tape rolls, boxes, and paper. I cannot comment on price, as this was a government move.

Packers were scheduled to arrive between 0800 - 1000, and arrived at 0845 (their GPS took them to a similar street name first, common problem here). The team of three was relatively polite and professional; though they did entirely miss two kitchen drawers that I didn't notice until after everything had been moved out. They were very quick and nothing was broken after we unpacked it. The movers came the next day (scheduled to arrive between 0830 - 1000, arrived at 0845) and were very professional and kind. Up front they asked if there were any pieces of furniture/items that I was "particularly" concerned about (after reassuring me that they would take care of ALL furniture, of course), to make sure they were handled with special care. I pointed out some antique family pieces and they were very delicate with those and made sure they had better spots on the truck. I think they loaded them onto the truck last, and off the truck first. We had a team of three to load the truck and a team of four to unload at the new property. The guys were beasts, and were able to move even our awkwardly sized furniture very quickly, and without damage. They placed everything where I asked, even moved some things for me after they were placed and I didn't like them! They reassembled all of the furniture that had been disassembled (beds, bookshelves, couches, futon). All in all, the guys were great, very friendly, joked around with us, and took care of our things. Only negatives were: 1) the two kitchen drawers that weren't packed (though if I had found them while the packers were still there, they would have done them); 2) we seem to be missing a box of bathroom things. Not expensive stuff, and its odd that its missing... maybe I'll find a box tucked away one day? Just suggest maybe trying to do your own inventory sheet or something; 3) the price. Compared to other companies in the area, I felt this was very expensive. This ended up being a short-notice move (we were able to get in our new house weeks early), so I needed someone available on specific dates, and these guys were, AND they could pack us, since I hadn't had time to pack. HOWEVER, the initial quote was for $3600 to pack and move our three bedroom townhouse 18 miles north on I95; after I told the surveyor that we would move all of the clothes, books, art and TVs (things that require both a lot of packing material and add a lot of weight), that lowered the quote considerably. We did an itemized pack (which charges you by the box used) instead of a flat rate pack, since we moved so much ourselves. This worked out very well for us. We worked with Tyrone Myles as our surveyor/office contact and he was REALLY great. Really flexible with us moving things ourselves, and changing the quote on him, even with the short time table!
Description of Work: We hired this company for an itemized pack and to move everything in our three-bedroom townhouse from Stafford, VA to Woodbridge, VA. (We packed/moved some things ourselves to lower the cost; we moved all of our clothes, books, art and TVs.)

Please don't use this company! We thought we made the best decision using a highly recognized company. We were not aware that Mayflower uses affiliate companies. And, that they would not train their drivers appropriately. All of this would have been avoided with one little step- if only the driver had given the check list sheet to my husband. We can never replace the jewelry, photos and personal items we lost. And, homeowners insurance will never cover this type of loss. ,
Description of Work: We used Joe Mohallond Moving Company in Woodbridge, Va. to move from Manassas to Tucson Arizona. Our dealings with the estimator John Grigsby and Lisa in the Woodbridge office were very professional and top notch. We were confident that we had chosen a reputable company! Our furniture was picked up on time and transported to Tucson within the timeframe specified in our contract. From that point in time everything went downhill. On the delivery day, my husband was alone, as I was still in Virginia. He was busy directing the driver and 3 others where to place items as boxes and furniture were taken off of the truck. When the movers were finished, the truck driver picked up his clipboard that he had placed on a box in our garage, gave it to my husband, and pointed to a customer signature line. He asked my husband to sign to acknowledging that delivery had been made, and my husband signed the form. A few weeks later, we discovered that one of their affiliate companies (United Mayflower) was used for our move. And, after unpacking all of our boxes, we found that we were missing items worth approximately $8,000. This amount does not include items dropped-off by the driver on his return trip to Virginia ($500 Dyson vacuum, antique baskets, etc). We filed a police report and loss claim with Mayflower, but were informed that we could not prove that the items missing had been placed on the truck. When my husband signed the so called receipt form, it was the check sheet that listed all of the items loaded by box/item number. This sheet was to be used by someone to check off every item coming off of the truck. So, who checked off each item number during the unloading process? Not the driver or his helpers! Not my husband - although he would have been happy to do this, had someone given him the check sheet. But remember - the driver placed his clipboard and this form on a box in the garage. Did he give it to my husband and tell him to complete the sheet as items were unloaded? No, he gave it to him to sign when our load was off the truck. And, it gets even better! Once the form was signed by my husband, someone checked a box marked "I waive the right to check off the inventory control form". Who in their right mind would chose not to use this inventory form? And isn't it a form of forgery for someone else to mark the box after the customer signs? During the entire claim process, Very few of my calls were returned and I would rate the service provided during this process as -F. The final outcome was that our claim was disapproved because they cited the signed receipt form that also waived the inventory control.

Joe Moholland performed a complete move for our family. We received an in-person estimate and continued to work with that agent to modify the contents of our move (deciding to add or subtract items) and to have questions answered. She was reliable in responding quickly. On a Friday, 3 people arrived to pack up our condo. They were professional and courteous and worked efficiently. I would estimate that they were there for 5 hours or so. They did an amazing job packing up every single item in the condo. Everything was carefully and well packed, including two sets of china and a set of crystal glassware. They marked all boxes according to the room and contents and labeled each box with an inventory sticker that was matched to an inventory list. On Saturday, a crew arrived with a and quot;shuttleand quot; truck to load all our belongings. They had to use the shuttle because we lived on a narrow street that could not accommodate the large cross-country truck. Once again, the workers worked hard and efficiently. They dis-assembled furniture, wrapped it securely and took everything out of the condo down stairs etc. They labeled each piece of furniture with inventory stickers and created an inventory list. I felt that the packing and moving out process was smooth. My only complaint was that there was a lot of paperwork and the packers didn't seem to understand exactly what each piece of paper did. However, in the end we were all able to decipher it and ensure I got what I expected. We had to wait about a week for our belongings to arrive in Kansas City. My biggest complaint was that the communication could have been better about when to expect our belongings. We were given a large range of dates and no one ever pro-actively called me to tell me when our stuff would arrive. I had to call and get this information myself. When I told the delivery driver this, he indicated that this is not the protocol and we should have been called well in advance. The day of the arrival could not have gone more smoothly. It was two of the same men who had been present to load our belongings and they unloaded everything efficiently, taking care not to damage any walls or furniture, reassembling furniture, placing items wherever I directed and being friendly throughout. Each time something came off the truck and into the house, we checked it off of the inventories that had been prepared when loading the truck so that I could be sure that we had everything and nothing was left behind. I am very satisfied and would certainly recommend Joe Moholland based on my experience. My chief concern was that my belongings arrive safe and in good condition and that both houses be treated with respect. I certainly got that as well as overall good customer service. It wasn't cheap but I feel I got what I paid for.
Description of Work: Joe Moholland packed our entire 2 bedroom condo and moved our belongings from Washington DC to Kansas City.

My storage container was delivered to the destination in Alexandria, VA on AUG 23rd. The labor to unload the container was from the local United Mayflower (UM) affiliate, Joe Moholland Movers in Woodbridge, VA. I was initially told by the sales rep at the point of origin that the delivery of the container and the labor are not scheduled on the same day. In this case, they were scheduled for the same day. The container arrived around noon and the labor was supposed to arrive between noon and 2 PM based on the phone call I had received from the dispatcher for the local UM affiliate. The labor did not arrive until after 5 PM. While they completely unloaded the container, I was not able to get the full benefit of their services with respect to furniture assembly. I have 3 young children (ages 5, 3 and 1) and the unloading operation began to interfere with their bedtime. I had not choice to but to stop the movers at 9 PM. Had I signed up for the hourly rate, I would have received the same quantity of service for much less. I feel like I was misled about the quantity of service I would receive by paying the higher flat rate for the labor. Additionally, the movers damaged a wall in a stairway leading up to the second floor living room when they moved my sofa. I began to document the damage with a digital camera in order to make a claim and the lead mover began to mouth off and get smart with me. He actually said, "you know I didn't have to carry your sofa up the stairs, I could've just left it downstairs." I began to argue with him that I was paying for movers to MOVE furniture and any damage they caused during the move they would be responsible for. I told the lead laborer that it was not his concern and that I would take it up with his company and that he just needed to keep moving my furniture. His response was, "what do want me to do, come to your house and paint your wall?" I was very shocked by his cavailer attitude and lack of customer service. Up until the unloading of my container, my move had gone fairly smoothly. However, because the labor, which I had paid over $700 for, was extremely late, rude and unprofessional, my moving experience was completely dissapointing. I cannot emphasize how much stress, in addition to a cross-country move with three young children, this unpleasant experience has caused me. I urge everyone who may read this, DO NOT USE JOE MOHOLLAND MOVERS OF WOODBRIDGE, VA AND DO NOT USE ANY UNITED MAYFLOWER AFFILIATES FOR YOUR MOVE.
Description of Work: I moved from Covington, Kentucky to Alexandria, VA. I hired United Mayflower (UM) to move my household goods. Specifically, I ordered a portable storage container which was delivered to the point of origin. I self-loaded the container and UM picked up and transported the container. Through UM, I also hired laborers (movers) to help unload the container at the destination, move the furniture into my dwelling, and perform some furniture assembly. I was strongly encouraged by the sales rep to pay a flat rate, which was much higher than the hourly rate, for the movers. By doing so, I was supposed to have the labor available "for as long as I needed it." As it turns out, I did not have them "for as long as I needed them" because they showed up so late. Also, the movers caused damage to my property during the move and were rude and unprofessional when I tried to document the damage.

The salesperson we worked with was terrific. He came to the house and did an estimate. We are planning to use them. We asked questions. They were happy to answer the questions. They were prompt. He came after work actually. He was there right when he said he would be there. The price sounds reasonable to us.

They did the packing. They helped in moving out of the old house and then moving into the new one. They were rated well online. I have used them once before and had good experience then. I got several estimates all of which were within $300. So the price was basically flat in terms of competition. So I used them because I had a good experience and it seemed like a lot of other people did have a good experience too. There was nothing that was lost, but there were a couple of things that were broken, but it may have been broken before itself. I might hire them in the future too.

The 3-man crew arrived on time at around 9 am on a Saturday and worked straight through until the job was done at about 5 pm. I chose to pay the flat guaranteed price rather than the estimated price based on hours. The flat price was about $150 higher but was worth it since I think the estimator underestimated the amount of time needed. We had a lot of stuff -- it pretty much filled the moving truck. We did a stop on the way at a storage unit to pick up some additional items. The crew was courteous and careful. We had no breakage. they worked well as a team. This is the second time I have used this company for local moves. Last time -- about ten years ago -- they needed less time than estimated and therefore I paid a about a couple hundred dollars less than the estimate. I liked that the estimator came to my home -- I don't trust the ones that try to do it over the phone -- and discussed the move with me. Of the three estimates I received, Joe Moholland was in the middle -- about $300 less than another company and about $300 more than a third. I didn't go with the low estimate because that estimate was done over the phone, by someone who appeared to have little or no experience in the industry, and I did not have confidence in them.
Description of Work: This company moved my family and me from a 2 bedroom townhouse in Falls Church to a 3 bedroom detached home in Arlington.
