Mr. Hoskins and his assistant worked quickly and efficiently. He's very conversant with building codes and told me that the wiring to my dryer would not pass the building inspector's visit. He noted that the code had just changed to require 4 prong outlets on dryers. He converted my outlet so that when I replace my dryer later on, it will already be configured correctly. He also recommended that I install an attic fan to keep my house cooler in the summer. I had him install it and I have to say it was easier for my old window AC unit in the living room to cool the house that summer. When the County building inspector came to review Mr. Hoskins' work, he told me that Hoskins Electric had done an excellent work on my house.
Description of Work: I had called Hoskins to have my electrical outlets converted from two prong to three prong, plus to replace the circuit breaker box.

The bid estimation process was OK, but when it came to installation, dealing with this company was an unpleasant experience, not one to be repeated or wished on anybody. The technician was hurried and impatient, and somewhat argumentative. They told me I might need an electrical permit, which would $100 to the cost. Trusting that completion of this work was OK without a permit, I authorized the company to proceed, and paid for the completed work. Turns out the State absolutely requires a building permit for this type of electrical work and my overall deck remodeling project failed inspection. When all was said and done, I got the work permitted and the project passed inspection. But the failure of this company to properly inform me added days and frustration to the experience. Also, the detail of the "inside" work (installation of a junction box and switch) was somewhat unprofessional. It lacked attention to detail. The technician mounted the junction box and switch plate 1/2" higher than the one next to it, which left it asymmetric relative to other outlets in the room and aesthetically unpleasing. In my view, this level of quality ? or lack of it ? is what separates the pros from the also-rans.
Description of Work: Installed deck lighting: two motion-sensor lights, one requiring a switchbox interior to the home.

These individuals were rude, abrasive, and cold. He was subcontracted by our contractor (Contractor was excellent) to do the electrical work of running a wire into the center of the room and adding two switches for a ceiling fan that we also had them install. The price for the very short amount of work in my opinion was a bit too much. Trying to schedule 2 appointments for this (wire work and a return to install the fan) was horrible. He was rude and dismissive and only wanted to talk to the contractor though we were paying him and we were needing to make the arrangements for entry into our home. We will never use them again.

This sub-contractor was originally hired by contractor to wire my deck for a hot tub. However, all they did was run the wire...that's it. No breakers, no spa sub-panel, nothing but running the wire. We brought them back out to finish the job - put in the missing parts and finish the connection to the hot tub. I had them schedule the job approximately two weeks in advance. Then they called me to tell me that because of traffic on another job, they were going to have to re-schedule my job (even though it was still 2-days to when they were supposed to come do my job). The only positive I can say about them is that they did show up on time on Monday. However, as soon as they arrived, they started telling me that everything I had done so far was wrong, but that they could replace it, for additional cost, of course (I had previously spoken with another retired electrician who told me what wire and conduit to buy). The guys from Hoskins Electric were the most unprofessional people I have ever had to deal with. They spent nearly 10 minutes telling me that the other electrician had to have been fired from his job, or must not have been a real electrician because he told me to use the wrong wire and conduit. There is no reason to stand there and bad-mouth someone else like what they were doing. When I asked them what was wrong with the wire, they repeatedly told me that the conduit would be overloaded. I asked to explain what they meant by "overloaded" and they just said it would be overloaded and that it was not correct wire. However, the wire that I had run was what the people at the hot tub store and the retired electrician told me to use. Apparently, neither the hot tub people nor the retired electrician were correct. Yes, they did the job, but instead of costing the $200 that they originally said, it ended up costing $300. Would I ever use these folks again, heck no. Will I ever recommend them, heck no.
Description of Work: This contractor was hired to run electrical service from my main home breaker panel to the deck for a hot tub. The job was to include installation of the breaker in the main panel, run the wire to the deck, install the spa sub-panel, and connect the wiring to the hot tub.
