I received HDR Contractor's contact information from my real estate agent. From the moment I contacted them to the final inspections, I was extremely impressed with the knowledge and professionalism of Luis and Richard. The attention to detail and great quality craftsmanship is unmatched. They used quality materials and kept the worksite clean and neat. My basement renovation far exceeded my expectation. They communicated effectively with me throughout the entire process and ensured that I understood everything that had to be completed. By far, the best contractors I've had the pleasure of working with. I will be contacting Luis and Richard for the next home renovation project and recommending them to friends and family.

Prior to moving into my condo November 2016 (1 bedroom 1 bath, ~1000 square feet), I had engaged 3-4 contractors (in the Fairfax area) to assist me in scoping/brainstorming and ultimately providing quotes for a full remodel (for nearly everything). Overall, the unit – built in the 1970s – had not been updated (floor, cabinets, paint) for some time. In working with several larger specialized bathroom and kitchen remodel/contractors for quotes (many of which have expansive teams, storefront, company trucks) it seemed that their prices (for labor and materials) varied with a commitment to the work – feeling much more transactional (i.e. as just another project) than I would have liked. The people element seemed lacking in ways. As immediate family and other family friends have worked with Luis and his HDR team over the years (for various levels of work – larger projects to small one off projects in the Northern VA area) I engaged Luis to visit and provide a quote. In working with Luis directly – in much the same way I did with the other contractors – it was very much apparent that he had good/different ideas, listened well, and provide his feedback professionally. His ideas, and comments, were much more to the point which helped clarify a few things (that I would have otherwise overlooked, that other contractors did not mention). From these initial discussions, I eventually went with Luis and his HDR company for the work. Once stared, Luis was terrific in dealing with my condo association (where he had to provide his business license, bonding, insurance certificates prior to starting) which helped the project to start on time. Once started, throughout the project, Luis was very responsive and easy to get in touch with. Pictures of the work, texts, and phone calls was very easy to keep in touch with him and to see the status of everything. His team also was very approachable, friendly, and worked very cleanly (keeping everything together). As this was a full remodel (cabinets, appliances, flooring, baseboards, crown molding, painting, electrical re-routing, plumbing changes, tiling, nearly everything), Luis was terrific in working with me to choose new flooring, cabinets design and layout (with simulated pictures before hand) and ideas/suggestions for appliances (range hood, fridge, oven, vanity, others). The ultimate end product (attached to this are some before and after pictures) was more than I had anticipated. I have received several compliments from my new neighbors and many others (I have posted a review on my condos intranet – reaching 330 owners – about the work Luis and his HDR team did, terrific). I would highly recommend Luis to anyone (considering a large or small project) who is looking to do work in their home (large or small). Very terrific person to work with, and did everything (and some more, in some cases such as painting my bathroom and Kitchen) as expected and described. I will definitely engage Luis and his team for anything else in the future, and very much recommend him to others. One final note, one half way through my renovation – there had been a pipe burst in my bathroom (which was caused by a 3rd party contractor hired by my Condo association) which resulted in the flooring, baseboards, and some other work to have to be redone (it was a nightmare). Luis and his team, that were here during the incident, handled the situation very professionally. As I am sure it was a pain to have to do this work all over again (while I dealt with my insurance company) he and his team re-did the work with no issues – truly terrific). To visualize this flood, it seeped through my unit down 9 stories to the plaza level of the condo (it was very bad/and damaging). Again, would highly recommend Luis and his HDR team and company as he was honest, trustworthy, very competitive in his pricing, and finished the work quickly, on time, and on budget exactly how we agree to and how he described. As myself as a numbers and cost conscious person by profession (and personally), Luis and his HDR company/team were terrific.

We found Luis and Home Details & Renovations when I queried friends and neighbors for a contractor who could repair our kitchen/dining room ceiling. A previous contractor who removed a wall did a poor job of attaching drywall to existing plaster, and parts of the ceiling had started to sag/were in danger of collapsing. Luis was incredibly responsive. At first, we didn't know if it was a problem with the plaster or if we actually had beams that were collapsing (the previous contractor had said the wall was not load-bearing...turns out it was). Luis very quickly put up a support wall, to make sure that the area could continue to be safely used in the short-term. It's worth saying that he ALSO correctly diagnosed the problem...whereas the structural engineer we consulted did not. (It took demolition to confirm this). We decided to rip out ALL the plaster in the ceiling and replace with drywall, and also put in recess lighting. They did a really great job, took great pains to make sure that debris from the demolition did not go all over the house, and even figured out a way via plastic sheeting to make the kitchen useable while construction was going on. This was a huge relief because we have small children. They did a nice job painting and cleaning up after themselves. Very nice guys and they take pride in their work. I'd recommend them to anyone. We will definitely use them next time we do work on the house.
