We did our due diligence on this as it's a substantial project and wanted to ensure we got the best value - reasonable price for a top quality result. David came out one weekend and took a good deal of time to look at the wall, educate me about what needs to be done and why, and then provided an estimate 2-3 days later once he had time to determine the exact square footage and materials necessary. David couldn't have been nicer, more honest, or more responsive. He works with his brother and one other employee who has worked with them for years and they were there every morning at 7am working. I met with 4 highly rated masons to get an estimate on this project and David was the most impressive, and his knowledge as a third-generation mason shows in the end result. He was meticulous about making sure the wall matched up exactly with the wall on the other side of the walkway. He's extremely knowledgeable, very nice, and does top quality work at a reasonable price. Will certainly use him for any and all future masonry work.
Description of Work: Rebuild 25 feet of a brick wall that had fallen down. Removed old brick, saved what he could, excavated a very substantial footer, constructed with rebar and wiring between bricks for added stability.

He worked many hours on one of the hottest days of the year to make repairs on parental home being readied for sale. It was a job well done. He had done the same on my own home in 2011 and I was very pleased at that time too.

Needless to say I will never call again or recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: I called David and gave him a detailed info about the project I would like to do he gave me an appointment the following week. However, he asked if I can call him the day of the appointment to remind him by non time. I agreed and did that to find out that he never responded nor showed up. Despite giving him my address and contact numbers to reach me, as of today I never heard from him again. I would not call this professional nor ethical picking and choosing customers or projects and giving appointments for no show!!

I wish everyone were as honest and straight forward as David. After describing what I needed done, he suggested a more budget friendly option of working with a carpenter (replacing a metal trim on a brick semi-detached row house). He was more concerned with my needs then capitalizing on the opportunity to put money into his pocket. If I ever need masonry work or if I end up choosing to brick in the trim I will contact him first!

David arrived with 3 other helpers and mounted my fireplace mantel, which was sizable, using high grade steel bolts that were expertly spaced and drilled into the brick. The mantel is perfectly centered and level and looks fantastic over my fireplace. David and his crew were very friendly and professional. The only concern I had was the price which I thought a bit steep, but there is no arguing with the results.
Description of Work: I recently purchased an antique fireplace mantel that I needed mounted on a brick wall fireplace. Ricard Masonry came in with a crew and had it done in under 2 hours.

I have tried for several weeks to set up an appointment with Mr. Ricard. I first contacted him on March 13 and he offered to come by the house in 20 minutes--however I was not home. By the time my husband reached him 35 minutes later he was not in the area. We rescheduled for Monday the 17th, but he did not show due to weather nor did he call to officially cancel or reschedule. However. I got in touch and we rescheduled for the next day, but he neither showed up nor called. I contacted him again on March 22nd to ask whether he was still interested in giving an estimate and he replied that he was, but his car was in the shop and he did not propose a time to meet. I contacted him again on March 24th asking him to contact me if he was interested and now, 4 days later, he has not responded so I am giving up. . It may be the case that Mr. Ricard is very busy, due to his excellent work, but a professional response would be to look at one's calendar, set up an appointment and keep it and inform the client if he is unable to keep the appoitnment or is too busy at the moment to take on additional work. I found it very frustrating to be stuck in some limbo and wait around for someone who doesn't show up. Fortunately I have now received three other estimates for this work and will be using another company.
Description of Work: After reading the many glowing reviews of David Ricard masonry, I contacted him about a project for repairing stucco and other hardscape issues at our house.

A breeze. The thing I like most about Ricard Masonry is that they work well with others. Whether working with my roofer or radon remediation team, Dave and his team know how to blend with other tradesmen, which only comes with experience. And if you aren't happy with your selection of electrician, roofer, or whom ever they're willing to speak up and advise. In the city, masonry is the base of most large or small building projects, so its nice to have a group that can take charge and guide the project to completion. Even when I couldn't be on site Dave made sure to keep me in the loop. Now, here is the best part. They examined the job (forgive me this is my first time writing in - they've completed other work for me) gave me the price, I shopped the price (which I no longer do- Ricard Masonry is now my go to)...in short - they're not afraid to explain again and again why the project must be a certain price. As straight forward as that! No crap. No hub bub! Just an experienced group giving you a professional opinion with a price tag to boot. When your business goes back generations- as one of the brothers explained, "we don't have to hit a home run everytime out". Fair, timely, and professionally. I'm a believer.
Description of Work: On this occasion, work performed included mason boundary wall, tuck pointing main structure, and point specific cut throughs on mason walls and main entrance.

David sent us an estimate by e-mail immediately. After consulting with our general contractor, we agreed immediately to his price. He came the next day, as he had said he would, and finished the job in one day. Since we were not on site, he sent us pictures of all the completed work and then called to follow up. Our contractor was at the job site and was very impressed with his work. This is one of the best guys we have found recently on Angie's list. No waiting, no guessing how the estimate was determined, no problems. We are very satisfied.
Description of Work: He filled a window area by weaving the new cement block into the existing block and he patched two holes in the walls. He gave us a bid over the phone. We didn't have the exact measurements but he quoted us a price of $10. per square foot, which seemed very fair and transparent. This included all of the materials for the job.

This guy kicks butt. Honest, transparent, fair, and his estimate came in lower than the others. I know it sounds too good to be true, this is really what happened. The situation was such that I had to bring in a structural engineer to make an assessment before choosing a contractor, as some of the contractors had insisted the house was sinking (ie, numerous contractors had been trying to scare me into spending more). When the engineer showed up, I told him what all the contractor's had been saying about my problem. Turns our Ricard's initial assessment of the cracking wall synced perfectly with the engineer's own assessment. problem wasn't so bad after all.

Contractor: Quick to respond. Impressed with ratings on A's list. Great job at walking me through the inspection and showing me what was wrong and write about my mortar. Provided estimate and revision the same day. Came in at around the same price as tow other well rated masonries. Completed work in about 6 to 7 hours. Great cleanup job after the work was completed. Professional and polite. Very responsive to some areas on the house that I felt may need more attention. I'm unable to rate the quality of the work at the moment because it's new but will come back with an update in a few months.

Description of Work: I didn't actually use Mr Ricard for anything, because he suggested not to. OK, that doesn't seem to make sense, but here's the story and why am writing. I have several retaining walls that have cracking mortar, so I contacted him for an estimate. He responded promptly and we got together to discuss the work, wherein he showed me some photographs of his work of a similar nature. It was quite impressive, and it was obvious he took great pride in his work. Then we addressed my retaining walls, and after understanding more about the problem, he said "The cracks aren't bad enough to worry about. My recommendation is to do nothing". Wow! An honest man. I'd use him in a second if I needed work done, and I'm passing this on in case you are in the market.

The crew showed up early every day and went about their work with no major interference to foot traffic at our busy corner. First they cleaned out all the loose mortar and removed all the old fillers between the flat capstones around the wall's perimeter, removed soil which had migrated around the bottom of the wall causing grass and weed growth, then they remortared all the stones and drilled extra weep holes with pipes to keep moisture from building behind the wall and pushing it out of alignment. Mr. Ricard was extremely responsibe and patient as we tried to gather members of the condo association to meet and review his proposal. Once he began the work, they worked every weekday until the job was completed. Quick, efficient and polite.

Mr. Ricard responded promptly to my request for an estimate. Set date and time to assess situation and he kept appointment. He examined the situation and gave me a step by step description of what he would do to replace the wall as it was damaged beyond repair. His estimate was sent by e-mail and matched his oral statements regarding the work. Work was started on the date specified. He and his crew remained on the job daily until the work was completed. Mr. Ricard made it a point to show me the work in various stages and explained next steps. He always answered my questions with courtesy, patience and professionalism. When the work was completed, Mr. Ricard asked me to examine the job. He attended to my concerns about the work. A complete clean up was done before he and his crew left the property. I was satisfied with the work done. Because there were areas of old concrete work that were not replaced, the best aesthetic effect is compromised.

He came out for an estimate on 29 May after emailing back and forth a couple of times. I told him what I needed done and he took some measurements. Said it may be a couple of weeks before he could get started, but would get me an estimate on a basic repair and on an upgraded repair (repair to concrete and additional masonry work). Never heard from him again. He really did seem like the nicest guy, and we had a great conversation, but to not respond at all is completely unprofessional.

The day of the scheduled appointment was reported for rain, so we emailed Dave asking if he could meet us any time the day prior. He ignored that email, but showing he got it responded to it the next day just minutes before the scheduled appointment. At that time, David wrote he was running just a bit behind and would be 30 mins late. Okay, fine, but once he was an hour late we emailed again to make sure everything was okay. We heard no response. We waited around the entire day and he never showed up or contacted us back. Thinking maybe something happened, we waited through this entire week for a response to our email or other contact with explanation and apology. But in all this time - NOTHING! It is terribly unprofessional to ignore communications from customers, and to leave them waiting for hours and hours without showing up or contacting them, or even anytime days later.

The work was done in a very professional manner over a period of 5 days. There were some very minor weather-related delays. The crew arrived promptly every morning and worked diligently taking great care with the cutting and laying of the stone. When Mr. Ricard was not present he was represented well by Jonathon who most ably answered questions and concerns. We are very pleased with the craftsmanship that gave us a beautiful product. .
Description of Work: Extended the existing concrete patio and covered the resulting 13'8"x16'8" patio with irregularly cut PA bluestone. Covered an existing concrete staircase with PA Flagstone. This included several steps that were more like landings with extended depth. All stone work was laid in mortar for a total of 12 steps.

David Ricard was able to come out the same week which was great, he arrived right on time ready to work. He did a great job mixing a mortar which very closely matched the original 1910 mortar, one thing that was very important to me. Work was finished in less than one day. He was personable and professional. I gave it a B for quality because of some details. The replacement brick was antique as promised but was dark red rather than pink like other brick brick in my wall, and the pieces used were too small for the space (leaving about 1.5-2" space between the old and new brick). The mortar wasn't applied smoothly and had marks in it - in two small places it wasn't smoothed down at all. I think he was trying to match the mortar on the other sections, which was very uneven (I was still cleaning it). I realized afterwards given that this wasn't a standard finish (I wanted it to retain an "old brick" look) that I should have been much more clear about the finish I wanted, whether to reposition brick chunks that were in sideways, etc and then watched until a small section was finished so I could give feedback. Overall it was an acceptable job; I needed the gaps in the brick fixed quickly and he did that very well, but given the prominence of the wall in a small apartment & me being picky when I have time I may redo it to get brick that matches more closely in terms of size and color.
Description of Work: Patched a small section of old interior brick in a rowhouse that had just been exposed - the original mortar was crumbled. Replaced 5-6 crumbled bricks with antique bricks he brought.

Since he was highly recommended on Angie's List, I initially tried to contact this contractor via his online email page nearly two months ago. After not receiving any response to this inquiry, I called and actually spoke with David, who said he was definitely interested in my project. I told him I would have to contact GE to obtain the template for the wall cutout and we agreed that as soon as this happened I would email him with the particulars so he could plan the job. I did this on May 31, telling him I had the template and the damper plate needed. After not receiving an answer I tried calling again a week ago, this time getting his voicemail. I left a message saying that if he was still interested to call me, and at least let me know if not so I could search for an alternative contractor. As of today (June 21) still no response, so I'm writing him off my list and starting over.
Description of Work: I wanted him to provide a cutout in a kitchen wall for an exterior vent for a combination microwave oven. It never happened.

I contacted this gentleman late on a Friday and he requested that I submit my info through his website. I did so and then never heard from him. Now seeing that someone else had the same experience, and seeing that it is obviously uncharacteristic - everyone else said he was very prompt and very responsive - it is more likely than not that something is wrong. I just had this happen with another contractor - great reviews, extremely reliable - but he broke his leg and had to reschedule my job twice, and then halfway through had to take a day off for medical care. Life happens.
