I contacted this provider in August, and was told that the work would be performed in September. Ultimately, a variety of excuses followed, and the work was not completed until December!! Although I was not in a rush, this should have been the first warning sign to seek a better provider. This provider is capable. That said, he does not ensure that the work is properly completed. He is careless. When you point out areas that were missed, he at best begrudgingly fixes the missed areas. Even worse, when fixing work that was not done (properly), he takes even less care. Instead, he rushes to complete the work as fast as possible so he can get payment. In the end, I sent him pictures of areas of mortar that he removed and did not repoint. Because I foolishly had already paid him, he did not come back to complete the work. I will not use this provider in the future, and recommend that other Angie's List members do the same.
Description of Work: The work included the replacement of cracked/spalling brick and repointing work.

This is a very unfortunate and disappointing review This customer was a long time client who for some unknown reason has resorted to dishonesty and distorted the facts. The truth is this former customer purchased a home built with antique bricks, we have provided repeated services since 2012,in the years since we've installed a patio Repointing on his chimneys , cutting out and replacing the deteriorating bricks on his home, the problem for this customer Is that we show up at his home and we walk around and mark each brick we are to replace on each date of service and we make the agreed upon repairs. He then decided to look for additional items that wasn't agreed upon since the whole house has issues with deteriorating bricks. The former customer then demanded we do additional work not agreed upon for free of which I stated we can't afford to work for free as we have taxes and insurance and other expenses. Unfortunately, This customer is a bully and has resorted to defamation and intimidation and threats to get us to return to do additional work for free. I hope my fellow tradesmen will avoid this bully as he is a person despite your best efforts will never be satisfied and will use whatever tactics available to intimidate you into free work The truth is he still owes me $150 in unpaid services provided

I awarded the business to David Richard after getting three bids. Although David's bid was in the middle, I selected the company because of reviews on Angie's List. I regret this decision. Below is a summary of my experience. The crew showed up on time on 3/8/16. Before starting, I had to give a 50% deposit, which I did in check. At the end of the day, David called me at work to advise that the job was completed and that I needed to pay the balance. I told him the second payment can be billed to my card once I inspected the job when I got home from work. (My fiancée inspected it but I needed to as well). David responded okay but if I were paying with my credit card, then there is an additional 3% surcharge. This was not on his proposal. When I pushed back, he waived the charge. After inspection, I found there were still holes in the chimney brick. On 3/9/16 at 8am, I called David and advised of this and that I would pay once everything was fixed. (reasonable actions!). David sent a crew to the house. At 10:00am I received a text that the work was done. At 12:14pm, I received a call on my cell for payment. At 12:16pm, I received a call at my desk for payment. At 12:51pm I received a text message for payment. I was in work meetings for hours and missed these communications, When I returned from my meetings, I contacted David at 1:21pm to give my card number. I gave payment just to stop the multiple calls and texts. If your are a working professional like me, think carefully about using this company. If you don't then get prepared to face what I did -- multiple calls/texts for payment and no emphasis on getting the work done right and making sure the customer is satisfied. I have done extensive work on my home, using some contractors from Angie's List. Overall, I've had good experiences. In fact two other contractors are performing work now. BUT, I have never had an experience like this. It will be my last contract w/ David Richard Masonry.

[Member Name Removed] I was surprised by the phone call I received today from Angie's List I feel there are some points which I need to address 1. When you called me and awarded the job to me I asked for a check for payment of the deposit and you agreed, you never mentioned the desire to use a credit card at anytime Also I must point out that the only reason I began accepting credit cards is that many armed forces members are homeowners here in our area and are deployed around the world It is for the convenience of these brave soldiers that we began accepting credit cards. I assume you know the fees all businesses must pay for that convenience the cost per year add up significantly, also as you know many gas stations have 2 different prices on the pump 1 for credit 1 for cash this is to cover the processing fees.you and I also spoke on the morning of the day we returned to fill in the other holes that were missed and you told me To call you for the balance. This is where I am confused I did as you asked Me to and you write untrue remarks about me

David and Jonathan responded to my request promptly and were able to come out for an estimate quickly. In addition to the masonry work that needed to be done on our foundation, they identified several gaps in the foundation walls and offered to seal those gaps for free. The price was reasonable and they were able to schedule the work right away. I was very impressed with their professionalism and the quality of their work. Definitely recommended!

David was very responsive and immediately communicated upon my request. He was able to schedule us within the week and did an incredible job. David was very knowledgeable about the type of mortar we would need to use, due the historic nature of our house. He and his team worked diligently and were very pleasant while they worked on our house for two straight days. Now that the work has been completed, I often compare their work to other repointing attempts in downtown Frederick, and it is, by far, the best work I have seen. Anyone who needs repointing shouldn't consider anyone else.

David was extremely courteous and informational in helping diagnose the problem and offer solutions. He was more than happy to let me know it was something I could do myself and save some money. I have since caulked the exterior of the window and all seems well. I will definitely call upon David for any masonry work that our circa 1903 DC row home may need in the future, which I'm sure it will.
Description of Work: David inspected the condition of a bedroom window of our DC home, and the surrounding brick and mortar, for the cause of some interior wall damage. He found that the caulking around the exterior of the window was cracking and letting water to enter and cause damage to the sandstone window sill and interior wall. Dave came on time and performed the service the same day -- was on time and cleaned up after he finished. Dave did a great job and followed our instructions exactly. He was polite, friendly and efficient and the price was fair as compared to other estimates we received. We will definitely use his services again. Very pleasant experience.
Description of Work: Repointed and applied new mortar as needed to brick front steps (five steps).
Dave Ricard and his team is awesome! They really worked a miracle here, which I wasn't quite sure could happen. We originally had gotten a stamped concrete patio (through a different company) including matching steps, but the color turned out awful, almost pinkish. After several attempts at calling the company to fix it, with no answer or callback each time, I needed to brainstorm and get options on what could be done. I found out with stamped concrete, that no color is guaranteed and pretty much what you get, is what your stuck with. I decided to just get the entire patio covered in Flagstone. So, I thought we could save some money and try and do a "family project". Let me give you some advice though.....cutting and fitting stones onto a 560 sq ft patio IS NOT an easy job. Leave it to Dave Ricard's professional team. It took us weeks to lay the stone down and try and cut it into shapes that fit just right next to each other. It is also a VERY messy job, which they don't explain to you when you go to the stone center to purchase your stones. At any rate, we got most of the stones down, but there was leftover cement everywhere on the stones. Basically, the end result was a "family project" that needed A LOT of help. Dave and his team came to my rescue. The patio looks beautiful now and their work on my steps is amazing!! I highly recommend them to anyone needing masonry work. Price was very fair too. I am thinking about adding sitting walls onto the patio and will definitely be calling Dave Ricard to complete that project. Last bit of advice......there is really nothing like real stone. I got talked into a stamped concrete patio because of the huge price difference, but if I could go back, I would have just saved up for another year and gone with real stone from the very beginning.
Description of Work: Completed work on an unfinished patio, which included filling in between each stone with mortar, an acid wash of the entire Flagstone patio, cut around and made a nice round clean shape of patio. Also, covered existing concrete steps with Flagstone and added caps to the side walls.

My tenants informed me that the front steps of the property were cracked and coming loose. I wanted to get it fixed as soon as possible because it is a safety issue, so I found Mr. Ricard in the nearby (Woodbridge) area. I gave him a call and he said he would be by the next day to take a look. He worked with my tenants' schedule, came by for the assessment, and fixed it the same day. My tenants are happy with the result, and I'm happy that it was resolved quickly at an affordable price. I recommend his service, and I will use him again for any future masonry work.

This was a thoroughly delightful experience from start to finish. David Ricard Masonry is a small family business--it's mainly David, his brother and an employee who's like family and been with them for many, many years. The company was one of several from whom I sought estimates. David arrived a bit early for our scheduled meeting and was prepared to wait until the appointed time. However, when I spotted him waiting in his truck I was more than ready to meet early and was glad we were able to do so. I thought I wanted brick pavers over the existing patio and that would have looked great, but after talking with David about my options, I found I could have irregular flagstone installed that would match the walkway already in place. This meant each piece must be custom fitted much like building a jigsaw puzzle and it's a time consuming job. I loved the larger stones they selected to work with and am thrilled with the end result which has a visual flow and maximizes the beauty of the stone materials. These guys are artists with real skill who clearly enjoy building something that's meant to last. Over the years they've worked on many historic as well as new locations including in Washington, DC and Old Town Alexandria and it shows, even with more modest jobs like the one I hired them to do. Everyone's attitude was very "can do". Of the companies I met with for estimates, David's was the only one to follow up with me. He did so initially within a couple of hours of our meeting and always responded promptly to emails and phone calls. His prices are fair and he even went out of his way to advise me to have a minor revision (weep holes) to an existing brick garden wall. It was a need he saw independent of the work I was seeking and he did it for no additional fee. I mention this to point out how seriously they take their work and the high standards they set. He was actually able to fit me into their schedule sooner than originally anticipated. The job took just under a week to complete. All three of the men of Team Ricard were great to work with--gracious, good humored, creative and very hard working. I'd absolutely hire the company again.

David and his brother are wonderful people and did a very professional job re-pointing the brick. They arrived on time. They are very warm and welcoming people who have the highest moral fiber of anyone I have met. They gave me an honest estimate on what the job would cost. They explained in great detail what needed to be done. They took time to educate me on the different types of mortar. Not all mortar I learned was created equally. I learned in historic buildings, Lime Mortar is VERY IMPORTANT to protect against earthquakes because it allows flexibility. I would definitely hire them again! David thoroughly repointed the brick and did a valuable service in ensuring stability of the structure. I hope you two are okay and a JOB WELL DONE!

The brick under my front porch and sunporch has been collapsing. The holes created by the bricks falling out created a hole in the wall that allowed my dog to escape our fenced yard. I found David on Angie's List and emailed him. He responded the same day and came to do an estimate two days later. Two days after that he and his crew arrived to make the repairs. The repairs were completed the same day. David was responsive and professional in all his dealings with me. The completed work looks great and my dog can no longer escape. This was one of the most positive encounters I've had with a service provider--quick response and quality work. I'll call Dsvid again if I ever need masonry work.

He advised he would drop off stone samples for us to decide upon and provide estimate based in our choice and the job in its entirety. He never provided those materials nor called/emailed estimate. When he arrived and seemed genuine in his offer to meet our stonework needs, however, seems now that he either forgot he ever visited us or did not view our job as worthy of his time.

David and his crew did a fantastic job. He was easy to schedule for an estimate; described why a wall was failing; and provided an accurate quote for each service. He was able to start work within a couple weeks of confirming that we wanted to use his services. His crew worked quickly and professionally. He communicated questions promptly and had suggestions when we ran into a couple unexpected problems. I'd definitely use him again for any future work.

I was very impressed by the outcome of the job. David was not punctual for either the estimate or day of the job but I was very flexible and didn't mind given I would be around those days anyway. On the day of the estimate, he did call to let me know he was running late. He was coming from a distance away and had other estimates before my scheduled appointment. He had contacted me to confirm by both text and phone on the day before coming to my home to do the work. I did call him after a hour had passed on the day of the job and he told me he was running late and at the Home Depot picking up supplies. Also, an associate that was suppose to assist him that day and lived in the area, did not show up unexpectedly. But when David arrived, he got right to work. He used a grinder to not only remove the old mortar that was discolored but also removed a lot of chalking that I had spread a year earlier to try to put off doing the work correctly and preventing further damage. He also replaced some broken bricks. Given that lots of dust was created during this procedure, I had my wife tape the seams from inside the front door to prevent dust from entering the house. This was a lesson learned from a prior job when I had another contractor build a walkout from our basement and they used a wet saw to cut the concrete without the use of water. I also lent David my WetVac to ensure all the dirt and grim were removed from inside the joints. Later in the day, his brother Jonathan and a fellow co-worker Henry came by to assist. Henry was excellent in pouring the mortar in between the joints using what appeared to be a bag filled with mortar with a pointed end. He was very precise and spread the mortar very cleanly. With the additional help, the job was completed on time. The site was cleaned afterwards and the color of the mortar matched the rest of the brink front as promised. David was very friendly and professional. He left me with a bag of sand and a bag of the mortar in case I needed to touch up other areas.I would definitely recommend him and his crew for any of your masonry and concrete work.

Came promptly for estimate 4/8/14. I accepted and hired him several days later. Didn't get a start date so 4/18 emailed him about scheduling. Was told he had to finish a job then we were next. After that I emailed him 5/22, and was told all work was delayed due to heavy rain. Never heard from him again. Gave up early July, got a new round of estimates, and hired someone else (who started 2 weeks later).
