3 projects: 1. (interior) - 2012 - Remove stone mantel and relocate on stone wall above fireplace along with two new support stones; 2. (exterior) - 2013 - Convert bump-out on front of house to stone; 3. (exterior) - 2017 - Convert walk-way to stone to match front porch Things went very well yet again. David Ricard and his trusted crew were responsive to my latest inquiry, then worked diligently, communicated very well throughout, and did great work yet again, all for a very fair price. Regarding this most recent project (walk way), after some initial confusion and ensuing conversation which included a Face-Time call wherein Dave showed me what he was talking about (since I couldn't be on-site), the project went smoothly and my wife and I were happy with the end result. Also of importance and for what is worth, I have contracted work on multiple homes with numerous contractors within a variety of trades (electricians, painters, plumbers, masons, roofers, deck/patio, flooring, windows, window treatments, fences, irrigation, landscaping, kitchen/bath, handymen, and more), and Dave Ricard is among the most honest contractors I've encountered in "any" trade, if not the "most" honest along with one or two others I've now used multiple times. In sum, when one combines Dave Ricard's a) experience (30 + years), b) track record / reputation on Angie's List, etc, c) fair pricing when compared to other masons (due to my trust in Dave, I didn't even obtain other estimates this time around); and d) Dave's honesty, integrity, and value on treating people as he would want to be treated, it should be easy to understand why Dave Ricard is the mason of choice for me and I couldn't recommend him highly enough.

Workers showed up on time every day until work was done. Quote was very reasonable.

David is the consummate professional. He quoted a fair price, arrived on time, set up quickly and got to work. He estimated 4-5 days for the job, finished in 3 1/2, and the work was flawless. He even got out mortar in inaccessible corners of the property with a mortar and chisel. He cleaned up thoroughly, including a neighbor's deck that had caught some mortar dust. One piece of advice -- when coordinating his start date, he's most responsive by text message.

Outstanding! David, his brother John, and their longtime (8-year!) colleague Jose are all: skilled craftsmen; eminently courteous and professional; punctual; reliable; reasonable; and politely responsive to questions and concerns. Excellent communication at all stages. The high quality work exceeded expectations, and was completed in only five days, for exactly the estimated cost. They built the retaining wall slightly higher than agreed-upon (which is good), and handled details like curved or intersecting surfaces well. They're also a joy to talk to -- really pleasant, friendly masons. The before and after photos speak for themselves.

David Ricard and his team arrive on time everyday, work hard, paid attention to the details and addressed my questions promptly. It is very easy to communicate with David. Working at our 129 year old row house with all the tight spaces, previous repairs, and settled / leaning structures definitely has its challenges, but David's team handled them well. They kept the disruptions to a minimum and cleaned up after the job. He initially estimated 8 days and finished the job in 6 days (we had favorable weather). The price was very fair. He's experienced and licensed. Even if someone has a cheaper bid, the quality and assurance would be well worth spending a little more. Before and after photos are below.

The finished product is well built.

The work kept getting rescheduled due to rain, that part is understandable. But when we asked about methods of payment, he got very rude when we asked about using a credit card, demanded cash only, said credit cards carry too many fees. I was concerned, as paying cash, we don't have as much recourse if the work isn't good. Thankfully, the step was done beautifully, and we are pleased.

I live in Missouri and own a townhouse in Ft. Belvoir, VA. Sometimes getting things done is difficult, even with a property manager. Part of the driveway was pitted and flaked. I had gotten notices from the HOA Architectural Review Committee to fix it, but no one wanted to do the job because it's so small. My property manager and I had been looking for someone to do the repair for 18 months. I went to Angie's List and found 10 companies that I thought might do the job. Of those 10, 4 responded. David Ricard Masonry was one of those, and in the end had the best bid. It seemed like it took forever to get the job done. None of that was David's fault. Throughout the whole process he was very patient, and I liked that he kept me updated. My property manager has said that she'll use him again.

Dave and his crew did a fantastic job with our project and when inevitably we ran into some additional work needed he completed the task at a very fair rate. Dave is an honest professional and the type of throwback contractor that is great to work with. Would recommend.

This is our second fantastic experience with David. David is a true professional. He's honest, reliable, and cares deeply about the integrity of his craft. We were so glad that we went with David, as we knew he wouldn't take shortcuts and would do the job to the highest standard. David gave us a prompt estimate, clearly explained why he was recommending what he was, began worked promptly, and worked diligently to complete the project and minimize disruptions. We are very glad with our decision to go with David's shop. Can't recommend him highly enough.

Excellent job. I contacted David while I was out of town on a Saturday. Within an hour, he texted me an estimate then completed the job. Sent me a photo afterwards then allowed for payment upon my return home for personal inspection. David will be my first and only contact for any future work.

The team did an excellent job addressing all of the issues we identified, as well as a number of others we did not. Very responsive, and quality work.

David did a great job removing a retaining wall and rebuilding it with appropriate drainage. He also put down a flagstone and brick walkway and stairs over the previous concrete. He gave us a very fair quote (substantially cheaper than a quote from another mason), started the work quickly, and finished it quickly. They worked full days and the quality of the work is great. He was easy to communicate with via text and email throughout. Would hire him again without hesitation.

Perfectly! David and his team had great design suggestions, worked quickly, cleanly and were incredibly responsive to my excessive number of questions about the projects. I suggested a 45 herringbone design, but David showed me examples of his work doing 90 herringbones, which were much more interesting and even cheaper than what i wanted. He also was quite helpful in making suggestions on maintaining the appearance of the brick walkway.

Perfectly - they were so wonderful. I was afraid there was more extensive damage but they were honest, thorough and fast. I would use them again in a heart beat.

David and his crew came out to assess the same day I called. The work was complete two days later. The initial result looks good.

David and his team arrived on time. They completed the work and cleaned up well. However, I later discovered they removed about six or seven loose bricks on the ground that were around my AC unit for protection. They then used the bricks as part of the front stoop repair. At no time did David or his crew ask me if it would be alright to use the bricks near my AC unit. The initial estimate they gave me included labor and materials. I'm now left to wonder about David's honesty and if he was trying to minimize his cost by using the bricks near the AC unit. There was also an minor concrete repair needed at the base of the hand rail on the stoop. David said he'd be back in a couple days to make the repair. He never did come back. I ended up taking care and completing the repair. The color of the mortar David applied also does not match the mortar color of the bricks on the house.

I contacted Mr. Ricard on May 13th and asked if he would give me an estimate for repairing the mortar cracks on the stoop in front of my townhouse. The stoop measures about 4' by 5'. Mr. Ricard came by my townhouse later on in the day and gave me an estimate of $275. The estimate sounded reasonable to me and I asked him when the work could be done. Mr. Ricard said that he could get it done for me sometime during the next week. On Monday, May 16, I received a message in the afternoon asking if it was ok for them to come over and do the work. Thirty minutes later Mr. Ricard and two others were working on my repairs. They were quick, efficient, and did an excellent job! It took them a little over an hour to complete the work. Thank you!

David is considerate of your time and he and his crew are responsive not just before and during the job, but after the job as well. They do great finish work, know how to match mortar color well and do great repointing. They are real professionals, and fixed much of the work done by the bad crew that flipped the house we bought. I've used them twice and will use them again for my next masonry project.
