I called 3 separate times for an appointment, each time getting a voicemail message. No call back. Must be very busy, which is a good sign. Then sent email and got response to that, so email a better way to get in touch.

David showed up and estimated the job on time. He has an easy going manner uncommon to this area and reminds me of better cities I've lived in. He knows his trade. His estimate was a sort of time calculation based on an hourly rate and was around 2.5 days. It seemed reasonable for the amount of work involved. His brother showed up at 7:30 with a helper and they dug into the demolition. David showed up later and they started laying bricks. They worked hard for about 4 days and the brick looks great. The estimate was a bit short, but didn't bother me since they worked hard and they did a good job of toothing it in. I was happy enough that I had him back out to brick up a window. You are getting a tradesman, not a salesman.
Description of Work: We had a garage addition that was done on the cheap in the 90s, so I decided to remodel it. I needed to brick up a bay window that was the previous car bay of the garage and resize the opening and brick up an entry way that was more than five feet across. I provided the bricks, which were reclaimed to match. They provided the mortar and the labor. Demo of the door and window was also requested

David was outstanding. He showed up early with a helper. Went through the details of cutting the basement wall for a larger window and got to work immediately. He was fast, efficient and a pleasure to work with. The job was completed very quickly and he was great about cleaning up. I am going to use him again as I open up other windows in the basement. He's a great contractor!!
Description of Work: Open a basement contractor window to a full double hung two wide window, by cutting out the concrete and removing the debris.

Based on recommendations from Angie's list we selected Ricard Masonry. We emailed photos and dimensions, they gave us a firm quote by phone, scheduled the work the same week and completed the job in one day including good clean up. The workers were prompt, diligent, and did an excellent job, very nice workmanship. It was refreshing to find a company that delivers a quality job at a fair price in McLean! In general, I don't have a long list of service providers I recommend--but this one--I DO! I'd use them again and would not hesitate to recommend them. Thanks for a job well done!
Description of Work: We needed to have our front brick walkway repaired. Last year we had a water main break that required our walkway be dug up. The walkway is brick laid in stone dust and the stairs (also affected) are mortared. We were advised to let it settle before repairing. It was very important to have the foundation tamped down appropriately and the repair needed to be seamless. It was.

David and his boys did an amazing job cutting exterior brick wall for window install. These boys know what they are doing and did everything to measure. The windows install when smoothly and I couldn't ask for better.
Description of Work: I wanted to install two new windows where there were no windows before. I wanted to install two windows 36x54 in in size. I needed the exterior wall (brick) to be cut for new window openings. David cut the windows to spec so that my new windows would fit the opening. He put in the lintels and sill and it looked great from the outside I as very impressed. My windows fit perfectly.

Overall it went very well. They were responsive and courteous. When they saw that my chimneys were three stories high, they didn't even bat an eye. I also have steep pitched metal roofs, so I had many masons refuse the job because the chimneys were too high for them in addition to slippery metal roofs. David gave me a reasonable quote and he answered the questions I had to my satisfaction, so I gave them the job. My main concern was the fact that my house was built in 1861, so I needed a mason who would use lime mortar, which he did. They were neither the highest nor the lowest bid I had, but I felt they were the best value based on price, their knowledge and their past experiences. They worked on my house continuously until it was completed (about 5 days), not working on it a little here and there, bouncing from one job to the next like many contractors do. They showed up early to start work everyday. I feel they are very honest because I had some masons tell me that one my chimneys needed a rebuild, but David didn't think it was necessary. I'm not saying those other masons where lying necessarily, it is just that I had told David what the others had recommended, and knowing this, he could have also said the same chimney needed to be rebuilt to get more money, but he didn't. I recommend.
Description of Work: They repointed 3 chimneys to include brick replacement as needed and new crown washes. These chimneys were 3 stories high and many masons wouldn't take the job because of the height involved.

Went very well, see above for details.
Description of Work: Came and removed old sidewalk and hauled away debris. Small job only 13 foot sidewalk by 4 feet. He had to work within a very small space and was very neat and careful to not tear up too much of the grass and plantings around. Sidewalk looks perfect. It was very hard to find some one willing to come out for a very small job. He did a great job.

David Ricard personally came to our house and did the measurements and estimates. his team arrived on time and worked full days to get the job done. the only thing that stopped them was the weather. even after we changed the design of the plan and added additional work for him, he and his crew did it with a glad heart. all work was done professionally and with extreme attention to detail. would highly recommend them to anyone.

This was the "perfect package" from beginning to end. After having received 4 other estimates, I called Mr. Ricard after reading his reviews on Angies List. I briefly described the work that needed to be done. He told me he could stop by on his way home from another job. When he got within 15 minutes of my home, he called to say he would be here shortly. He looked at both the chimney and walkway and told me in detail what he would need to do and would e-mail me an estimate. That same evening, I received his estimate, as promised. We communicated several times the next day and within 15 hours of my initial phone call, I had a contract in hand. The three workers who did all the above-mentioned items were on time every day for 5 consecutive days, got to work immediately and worked constantly. They were meticulous in their work, and didn't rush through any of it. Mr. Ricard came by each day and kept me apprised in great detail of all that was going on --- to which I was certainly a witness as I had the pleasure of being here when they did the job. All four gentlemen were professional, polite, respectful and worked very well together. The quality of their work surpasses my expectations and I would highly recommend them to anyone who cares about high quality work at a fair price and wants professionalism and dedication from his/her contractor.
Description of Work: Repaired the top 12-14 rows of brick on chimney; matched color of original mortar; removed old crown and replaced with new concrete crown. Removed upper and lower walkways' concrete and pavers, removed bad soil; added gravel, formed and poured new concrete; installed pavers. Removed broken stone at front door and replaced with bricks.

I signed up for Angies list because my brick steps to my front porch were loose & pulling away from the mortar. Some of the bricks had completely pulled away. I wanted the work to be done right. I searched for a company close to my home. I found David Ricard Masonry . I read the reviews there were a couple that weren't so good but most of them were very good. I called the company. spoke to David & he asked me to send him pictures of the steps. I would have been surprise about sending pictures, but I read in the reviews that he asked for pictures. I took pictures with my phone, sent them to him & within mintues received a estimate. We communicated via e-mail & set-up a date & time to perform the repairs. I forgot that I had a prior commitment for that day & emailed David back that I wouldn't be available for that day,he emailed me back that I wouldn't need to be home for them to start the work. I advised him I would be home when he arrived but I would be gone all day. David arrived on time. As he was looking over the job, he found that the landing had dropped about 3 inches which he thought may have caused the bricks to separate. He advised me what needed to be done to correct the problem, and what it would cost. He said he figured it would take 2 days to complete the work, but with the added work it might take longer. He would call another one of his crews to come & help. I got home late that night & to my surprise the job was completed. I immediately emailed him to set up payment arrangements. David came back the following day to pick up the check & I also asked him about doing another job for me. The porch looks great.
Description of Work: Repaired the brick steps to the front porch where the mortar had pulled away from the steps. Also filled in concrete on the side of the porch which had dropped 3 inches and replaced the bricks.

David and his brother Jonathan were a pleasure to deal with. The showed up exactly when they said they would and did a wonderful job patching the unsightly gaps around my front porch steps. I couldn't be happier with their work. They even patched over a crack in the landing and another one in my driveway, free of charge. When I tried to give them some extra for it, they refused. It's not often these days that you find companies that "go the extra mile". I highly recommend them for any masonry work and would use them again.
Description of Work: There was a gap of about 1 to 2 inches between the bottom of my front porch steps and the concrete landing that needed to be filled in. There was a similar gap between the edge of the landing and the concrete driveway that needed to be patched as well.

Working with David was fantastic. I chose David initially because he was personable, prompt, and struck me as incredibly knowledgeable. He did not disappoint. He updated me with photos or a phone call every day and his team of skilled workers was as courteous and as I've ever seen and they really went out of their way to minimize any inconvenience to us. Even though the brick repair work was more extensive than he expected, his pricing and timing estimates were still accurate. I appreciated that he wasn't trying to win my business with a low-bid and over promises. I was very pleased with David's work and would happily use him again.

Description of Work: Knowledgeable, nice, arrived on time, quick in his work, fixed numerous cracks in my concrete driveway, grinded openings , applied polymer, concrete mix, sanded, and hosed down. Actual price was $131.50, but seeing as he drove all the way from Woodbridge, I helped with gas. Delited with all aspects, honest. Hire this guy for any masonry work, he is good.

Called David to set up an appointment. Since he was working locally, he came out within the hour during lunchtime to look into the work we wanted to have done. David is very straight forward (maybe too much so!) and will tell you exactly what you need to hear. We did not know if our work required just superficial repair or if there were more structural issues, so we wanted to work with someone who can do more than just superficial work that won't fall apart in a few years. All of our communication was via email after the first appointment. David was incredibly responsive, and replied to my messages within the same day. It might be a good idea to check in with him a couple of times prior to the start date of the job, as his schedule is dependent on some unpredictability (such as rain delay, or if the previous job required more time than anticipated). Payment was very straight forward with an invoice listing what work was done. David takes great pride in his work. He did a fantastic job matching our brick color. Since we used some old flagstones, he was diligent in finding stones that have similar thickness as our old ones. When we wanted something to be done a specific way, we tell him beforehand and he was very responsive to our suggestions. It ended up that our front stoop lacked the proper footing. David and his crew repaired it by pouring an additional footer and laying re-bar as needed, while not gouging us on pricing for the unexpected work. We asked if he can do some cosmetic repair on a leaning retaining wall, and he went out of his way to make it look nice. I came home on the last day of the project and was pleasantly surprised to find that David also replaced a couple of broken bricks in two other places on our house. David has his own quirky style that makes conversations easy, while still maintaining his professionalism. He was one of the few contractors we had talked to who actually recommended us to save money by not doing a certain project. It is refreshing to have such honesty. We will recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Removed old brick and flagstone from front stoop. Check to ensure that footing is done correctly, and if not repair as needed. Use old flagstone where possible; otherwise, use new bricks and flagstones for the front stoop. Cosmetic repairs on a leaning retaining wall.

I spend a lot of money on contractors annually as I'm also a building manager. We had a great deal of brick work that needs to be done at our building in MD, this was going to be a way for me to see his skills and follow-through so I could hire him for a much bigger job. However, he left me disappointed and a very limited time to find another company to get the job done.
Description of Work: I called to schedule a time for David to fix the brick steps leading up to the front door of my townhouse. Some of the brick needed remortaring. His price was great and he had fantastic reviews. However, getting him to come and complete the job was somthing else. I waited for him for weeks on end. Then finally we pinned down a date, he never showed nor did he call. Again, I called him and rescheduled, and again, another day of silence on his end.

The brick stairs of our front porch look beautiful...in fact, it makes the rest of the original porch look crappy. Makes me wish he had redone the entire porch.
Description of Work: David came out for an estimate on Tuesday and because I am getting ready to put my house on the market, I was in a time crunch to get the job done. He was there with his crew on Friday. The estimate was slightly higher than others: however, he also offered to do more than I originally asked to be done under the same estimated cost. Once on the job, he found that the front stairs were completely unsupported which is why they sunk and sent his men to Home Depot to get concrete to fix the stairs (not included in the estimate). He only added the cost of the supplies and a minimal labor charge (of which we paid him more because he didn't try to gouge us). He reminded me of HGTV's Mike Holmes because his philosophy is "do it right." His work ethic impressed me and we would definitely use him again and recommend him to anyone in need of masonry work.

Response from David Ricard Masonry, LLC
The issue with this particular prospective client is that he requested a rough estimate for work for which he refused to provide any drawings. The problem with providing rough estimates without drawings (which we tried to avoid doing) is that soil samples need to be taken, engineered drawings need to be provided, along with architectural drawings. In my eleven years in business, I have never experienced a routine project, each job has its own unique challenges and when a client refuses to provide drawings, it is very risky for the contractor to offer a bid when it is time for construction to begin. The scope of the work may be completely different than what his rough estimate provided. It is thereby unfair to offer criticism in a public forum when a prospective client promises to provide drawings and never does.
