He contacted me after I put out a request on Angi, asked for pictures. I sent the pictures on 4/30/21, he replied with a quote on 5/1/21, but said he really needed to see the tables, which is reasonable. I got wrapped up in work, and didn't reply until 5/7/21, at which time I apologized for my tardiness, and asked that he contact me to set up a time to come see the tables. I received no reply to my email, so I called on 5/12/21. I spoke to David, and he seemed so disinterested that I actually asked him he wanted the work or was he too busy. He was clear that yes, he wanted to do the work, but needed to see the tables, and asked if I could bring them to him. I said no, but I would be happy to arrange my schedule so that he could come to my home to see the tables. He asked again where I lived, this after asking multiple questions that I had already answered in email. I suggested that he read our email exchanges, and if he still wanted the work, he could reach out to me about an appointment. He then said that he would be in Springfield on Saturday, 5/15/21, and that he would come by in the morning. I emailed him at 11:16 am to see if he was still coming, no response. I called, and it rang until finally going to voice mail, but the voice mail box was full, so I couldn't leave a message. I finally texted him and told him to bother, that we would find someone else. I should have trusted my instincts after our call on 5/12/21, as he seemed very disorganized and unprofessional. There are plenty of people out there who do run their businesses in a professional manner, so I'll just find one of those.

Very happy with results and turnaround

The project was completed in a timely and efficient manner. Since the back upholstery had to be removed any way, Mr. Rankin tightened the connection of the attached arm as well as repairing the unattached arm. The work was quickly performed at very reasonable cost.

Great job done! I'm very happy. The location in Woodbridge looks shabby and inside has stuff all over, but don't let looks fool you. Knowledgeable and pleasant customer service and beautiful job completed, and it was completed quite quickly. Take your checkbook - they don't accept credit cards.

Dave is a real pro. I interviewed several people for various refinishing projects, and he stood out not only for his craftsmanship, but also for his easygoing personality and honesty. This is a guy who’ll give it to you straight, and deliver on time and on budget.

We asked Dave from D&R Restoration & Upholstery to reupholster and restore our late Victorian settee and chair, and his work exceeded our already high expectations. Neither of the pieces had been particularly well cared for by the time they came into our hands, and we had considered giving up on them altogether. Fortunately, we decided to take a chance on D&R, and we were impressed with how knowledgeable and attentive Dave was when he came to our house to examine the pieces and prepare a no-cost appraisal. He returned a few days later and carefully loaded the furniture in his van. His attention to detail is nothing short of masterful, and he was particularly helpful in assisting us with our fabric selections and choosing a gimp that complemented the material. I was also pleased to learn about all of the personal and professional contacts he has within the fields of antique furniture restoration and material culture, and I have no doubt that these associations enhance his already notable skill. What most impressed me about working with D&R was Dave’s faithfulness to the original qualities of the piece. Although the wooden frame on the settee required some glue and fill and we traded the 19th-century fur stuffing in favor of [much more comfortable] foam, Dave’s work preserved the historic character of the pieces. Furthermore, Dave is a pleasure to work with, inviting us to his shop to look at fabric and sample foam and making himself available outside of normal business hours for consultations, pickup, and drop-off. We enjoyed all of our conversations and intend to remain in touch with him. His prices were reasonable, even generous, and I think that the time duration for the project was equally reasonable, given the amount of work he had to do. He even went so far as to recommend and offer to give us a fabric guard for our new upholstery after we'd completed business and given him the final check. David was referred to me by Acme MidCentury Modern in Alexandria, Va. He is a busy guy and costs a lot, but the workmanship is par excellence. He made a severally damaged table look better than new. I was warned that you should NEVER refinish an old solid wood table, but his work works for me. I do not think he damaged it in the least. In fact, I'd argue he did the opposite. BTW, additionally, there were candle burns in the table top and he was able to hide them in the wood grain somehow. I have YET to find the former burn marks, and those burn marks were significant. I simply cannot SEE the former damage in my gorgeous table. SO excited about his remarkable work. USE D&R if you have the money, I'd sincerely doubt there is any better than this chap and his workmanship.

Dave was wonderful throughout! He's a real professional who is passionate about his craft AND about pleasing his customers. I have already booked him to work on some more furniture. His workmanship is excellent and he is very reasonable as far as pricing. Without a doubt, I highly recommend him.

Dave came promptly, identified the broken spring and then went home and found a new compatible one online. He then came back and replaced both springs as the other one was worn out. He showed great foresight by purchasing two springs, even though I thought I onlly needed one.

It is very easy working with David on an upholstery project. He texts pictures of his progress and asks questions along the way. He listened to my request for a very firm seat top on the ottoman as I am using it for extra seating when we have company. David takes great pride in his work and shared with me each step he took in creating the new piece.

I decided I would like a second fan back chair to go with the one that David just reupholstered. We searched for several weeks at various antique stores and on several websites. David found a 'channel' back chair and explained to me how he would take it apart and remove the channels. Now I have a second chair that is a perfect compliment to the original fan back chair.

Dave kept in touch with me via text messages to let me know how the repair was progressing. When I arrived at the shop to pick up the chair, he had it up front waiting for me. He also carried it to the car for me. The repair took less than two weeks.

We are very pleased with the table and chairs. The quality of work is exceptional. They look brand new.

When I learned that my long term upholstery company sold to another individual, I was a bit concerned. But I called the number on the place of business and within a couple of hours Dave called me back. He explained when he bought the business and that he had worked with the previous owner. I sent pictures to him of the work I wanted done and he immediately set up an appointment to come to the house. Dave was very professional with his suggestions and let me know at that time that my fabric selection was a bit light and thin but that he could make it work for me. Throughout the project, I received pictures of his progress on the chair. I was thrilled when Dave called on December 22nd and said the chair was finished. Twenty minutes later, he delivered it to my house. We are very happy with the finished project! We have another chair (all wood) that needs repair. We will be giving Dave our business on this chair as well.

David and his Coworker Ian were phenomenal. Reminiscent of old world craftsmanship, it was truly amazing to see the artistry applied as they completed 2 pieces of furniture. We received a mahogany office desk that was extremely valuable, but was mistreated, for free. The desk is approximately $8000 brand new. Ian repaired the chips, scratches, and even adjusted the hinges, which incidentally wasn't in the original scope of work. David on the other hand was responsible for repairing a very expensive Armoire in the master bedroom. There was a huge gauge taken out of it. By the time he was done, you couldn't even tell there was ever any damage. He filled and formed and colored the missing piece. While waiting for each phase of this process to be completed, David touched up the bases of our chest of drawers, dresser and night stand, which were not part of the original scope of work. Before leaving, we had David take our Dresser top to repair it at his shop due to the extensive work required. Anxiously awaiting their magic to be applied. Incidentally, regarding the desk, David found someone to remake a damaged door on the hutch of the desk, complete with hinges. He will pick it up when he brings back our dresser top. Yes we had to pay extra, but you really can't put a price on piece of mind, especially with true Artisans. Bottom line..there are a lot of claims by a lot of different people about what they can do about everything. Its a great thing when you actually find someone that knows what they are doing, and down to earth while completing their tasks. Both David and Ian are very knowledgeable with their craft. They cleaned up after themselves ensuring they were careful when handling their chemicals/dye's. Opened windows to ensure we weren't inundated with noxious chemicals. They were actually able to color match everything. Very professional. Will definitely use them again.

Dave is truly an outstanding wood finisher, we were ready to purchase a new front door but decided to contact Dave for an estimate based on a previous customer. A new door was wel over 25,0000 , after Dave stripped and refinished the door it looks like a brand new one and it cost more than half of a new door. He did an outstanding job, we highly recommend him . He also did an awesome job of stripping and refinishing our kitchen cabinets.
