I have mixed feelings about my experience with this company. The lady answering the telephone was very nice and helpful. They were prompt in visiting my home and providing me with an estimate. The gentleman who visited was courteous and professional and gave me a detailed explanation of the work that would be done and a detailed estimate. I thought the price was a reasonable one for the work proposed, especially compared to an estimate from another company. Storms and heat delayed the repairs, complicated by the fact that this company apparently has two repair schedules, depending on the nature of the work that is being done. I learned on my second call (about when I might expect the work to be done) that my job had been put on the incorrect schedule. It isn't clear to me how much that delayed the work, but they arrived within less than a week after that call to make the repairs.. Although I was told that I did not have to be at home for the work to be done, it was fortunate that I was, because the men wanted to access my roof from the rear (most repairmen access it from the front, which is lower) and my back gate is kept locked. Also, they arrived so early (due to the extreme heat that day) that I was still in bed. A heads-up about that would have been nice! The work was completed in about 1 1/2 hours. I blame myself for not having taken binoculars, examined the work and compared it to that on adjoining homes while they were still on site. Once I did so, I thought that it wasn't a very tidy job and it looked nothing like replaced, aluminum-clad rakes on other homes in my development. There were what appeared to be gaps in the seams between the sections of boards, and there were extensions of the aluminum cladding along the bottoms of the rakes. Basically, this was not the clean, smooth, tidy look I was expecting. Although I was assured that the cladding was both glued and nailed down to prevent wind damage, I had concerns that the gaps and the extensions of the cladding along the bottom of the rakes could be an issue in a storm, especially one with high winds.. Consequently, I called the company and asked if someone could return to my home and answer my questions about the work. They were very prompt in doing so, explained the work and allayed my concerns. As a result, this amended my review in some areas from Fair to Good. I believe I would use this company again. I was given some good advice on some other jobs I had considered but was told they were not needed. I admire that kind of honesty by a company.

We are glad to hear that your found our staff professional, helpful, prompt and courteous, as we strive to be. We want to assure you that had you not been home and your back gate was locked when our team arrived, they would have accessed your roof from the front. Our team deemed it more convenient to access from the rear. We are grateful that you were able to amend your initial review once our team alllayed your concerns. Thank you for bringing all of your concerns to our attention so that we could address them to your satisfaction. Thank you, also, for stating that you would use our company again. I discovered water stains in our bathroom after a very heavy rain storm. I found Consumer Construction through Angie's List and called them. They told me they would come out and inspect and repair without my being home, assuming it was a classic roof leak that they could detect from outside and it would cost a standard $350 fee. We went into our attic and saw water stains on the plywood so we knew the inspector had to see the inside. They phoned before they came so my husband was able to be here and go in the attic. The inspector realized that the job was bigger than the "standard" and that they would have to write up an estimate and then come back. The $350 fee for coming out was waived and it became a bill for $550 to do what was necessary which was replace plywood in the roof and replace 1/2 bundle of shingles and also 10 inches of our ridge-vent. We agreed to that. The office staff continually kept me posted as to when they could come out, which had to take into consideration other jobs ahead of me, rain and extreme heat. Luckily, the rain held off for a while and then when it did rain, my husband went to the attic and was able to put a bucket in the attic to collect the water so we have not had further ceiling damage. I like the fact that they are family owned, rated highly on Angie's List, very reasonably priced and appear to have done a great job (I don't know yet because it hasn't rained). I have a one-year warranty and will let them know if there is any problem. My ultimate rating is based on customer service and they have been wonderful. I will also keep their information for when it's time to replace the entire roof.

The office person was very helpful and knowledgeable and told me how soon they could come and the roofer was there promptly on time. He got on the roof (had a harness of some sort so I was not concerned about him falling) and went to work. I heard a lot of hammering where he was replacing shingles on either side of the roof vent to prevent further problems. The company did not go up for an estimate and then charge for that and then come back and subtract that from the work. The fee included the small repair I needed and checked for other potential problems and caulked several places that needed it. Compared to what others in the area had been charged for an individual problem I feel that I got a really sweet deal...good work for the a reasonable price.
Description of Work: In response to a leak over the garage, the contractor fixed the leak (and explained what had caused it) and checked the entire roof for potential leaks and problems and replaced some shingles, etc. where problems (unknown to me) were. Had already located a couple of potential problems (nails showing) before I indicated where. Replaced two boots on vents....at my request and for an extra fee.

Definitely give them a try if you are looking for honest work. I am very confident in my own repair skills and rarely hire out. Primarily because I really don't think there are too many companies out there anymore who genuinely take pride in their work and are more interested in making a buck then paying attention to the details. I believe that the same amount of effort/quality should be put into a job regardless if it costs $5 or $5000. I have very high expectations and expect a company?s best. Charging more for quality is not acceptable. Quality should be a standard, not a pricing option. Don't take shortcuts, don't up-sell me and most importantly, communicate with me along the way. The right attitude and communication can go a long way even when things don?t go so perfectly. With that said, I was recently in the need to hire a contractor for some roof repair. After some very diligent searching and reviewing, I decided on giving Consumer Construction a call. They seem to received consistently positive reviews. I have to say, from my initial call to the final billing, they were professional, polite and there was always someone available to answer my questions when I called. That?s important to me. Their standard roof repair fee is a great concept. They have a set price so you already know going in what to expect to pay. No guessing, no surprise add-on costs, etc. (I was skeptical about this at first but pleasantly surprised when they came through when the bill was received). I was on a very strict timeline for this repair. Because of the recent weather they were about a week out from being able to do the work. We set a date for a Friday and they said they would contact me Thursday to verify. Although I was not required to be present during the repair, it was important to me to be there (again, I am very specific and not using them before I wanted to see for myself how they handles themselves and their workmanship). Unfortunately the weather delayed some of their projects so my project had to be pushed out to Monday. This did put me in a bit of a bind since I wanted to use the weekend to repair some drywall damaged from the leak and more rain was forecasted for the next week however they DID call me Thursday as promised and explained the situation. They were apologetic and even stated that as long as the rain was not too heavy they would still show up on the new date and do what they could for me. They arrived Monday as promised, and immediately started to inspect the roof. Manuel was the individual who came out and within 15 minutes had already determined where the leak was. The entire time he communicated to me what the problem was, how he was going to fix it and later asked me to inspect his repairs. Note: Generally you are not required to be home during this type of repair. In those cases, they do follow up with a phone call to you to discuss the repairs that were made). I appreciate that as not too many companies follow up to make sure you are happy. Another issue I generally have with contractors is their cleanup. Manuel had the repair done quick and all scrap and/or trash was picked up and put away in his truck (which also is clean and professional looking). By the time he was done, you couldn't even tell that he was there or that there was any repair work done. Everything matched perfectly. They even provide a questionnaire in the bill they send you to ensure you were satisfied. Again, another attempt to make sure they are meeting the customers satisfaction. Overall I was left feeling very positive about the experience. If I had any complaints at all it would be one small communication issue that I experienced. I called the office and provided a specific phone number to reach me at when the crew was 45 minutes away from showing up so I had time to leave work and meet them at the house. I never received that call. Later I found out that the number I provided never got to the crew and they called the number on file. It just made my afternoon a little more hectic trying to get there before they started. But they waited until I did arrive so all was good. Would I recommend them to my friends and family? I intend on using them again later this year for some other work which will be the true test for me since it?s more involved than just a roof repair. Before I recommend them to my friends/family I will need to wait to see how this next project goes. If the service I receive on that project is as good as my recent experience and the pricing continues to seem fair then I will be convinced and will gladly recommend them to anyone and will definitely consider them for my future projects. (Which anyone in my family or friends know does not come easily from me). Great job so far Consumer Construction. I hope the great service continues when I call you for my Fall project.

They had an arrangement where they basically said they'll send out their leak experts to identify the source of the leak and fix it with a guarantee. They said they could do it for $325 or otherwise send somebody out to do an estimate of what's involved. We signed up for the $325 thing. Two gentlemen came out, they determined that they could not guarantee a repair and actually looked things over. They gave us an opinion about what the situation was, got into their truck, waved and went away. They didn't charge us anything so we were very favorably impressed by that. We are going to get them back out for an estimate of what actually needs to be done. They actually came earlier than we thought they were going to come. There was a little bit of a problem there because I don't think they actually called ahead to say this is when we are going to be there but just kind of showed up and that was okay. It was sort of their emergency crew that came out so they basically have a list of situations and they work through it as quickly as possible I think. The fact that they came earlier than they thought they might be able to is a good sign but it probably would have helped if they could have given us a call. I suppose what would have happened is that when they had gotten here, we had been out because we weren't expecting them and it would have just gone on to the next thing and then gotten back to us. It probably would have helped if they had called and said that they were in our neighborhood. The guys who came out were workers and one of them didn't seem to speak English at all and the other one was reasonably fluent but I didn't have an easy time understanding him but I don't need to hold that against them. I think they were fine. We were very impressed that they didn't basically just went away. They were gracious, friendly and didn't charge us. We are going to have them out for an estimate as to what they think should be done to the roof.

We purchased a home last fall with new windows, but original window trim. It was an eyesore and in several places, there were large gaps of exposed spray foam. We contacted Consumer Construction to add white aluminum trim to all the exterior windows on our townhouse - 9 windows in total. They came out to give us an estimate (instead of having to take time off of work as planned, he called to let us know he was in the area and would we mind if he just stopped by?) and we thought it was a fair price. They were able to schedule work for the next week. The crew actually showed up 30 minutes earlier than they had planned to be there - when does that ever happen with contractors? It was such a pleasant surprise. They got to work right away and were done with all the trim in a little over two hours. The entire crew was nothing but professional and friendly and our windows look fantastic. I didn't realize such a small project could make such a huge difference. Our roof will need replacing in the next year or two and we will definitely consider them for that project. Would definitely use them again!

Excellent experience. They started very early on Wednesday, which was good because the entire week called for afternoon thundershowers, which we got. They were able to complete the project in sections which meant we were not exposed to showers. They finished on Friday, before torrential downpours. No mess, no problem, professional crew, and the owner even helped scrub some mildew from our home. I will call them for other projects and recommend to anyone. Thanks for a no stress project!

Well, first off, I was glasd I didn't need a new roof! Nor did they try to sell me one! they came when they said, did the work they said, followed up the next day, and also their office followed up the next day as well. So I actually got two calls to see how things went. I thought the price was very reasonable. THis is my first Angie's List contractor and I was concerned because some are so highly rated, their prices would be high as well. I was very pleased and will recommend them to my friends.

It went very well. I had two bids/proposals and had meetings with both companies. Both companies were open, informative, and professional answering all my questions in detail. The two proposals were very close in price with not too much difference in what was to be provided. I felt that either company would provide a better than satisfactory installation. I selected Consumer Construction because their proposal was a bit better than the alternate proposal and, subjectively, I felt slightly more comfortable with Consumer Construction. On the day of the installation there were no problems and no surprises. There was a delay of the installation date due to adverse weather but that was an understood possibility from the beginning. The installation crew came at the appropriate time in the morning, completed the installation, cleaned up all the debris, and were done by 4:00 pm.

We are extremely pleased with work completed by Consumer Construction on our 1940s cape cod. We found each person that we spoke to within the company to be friendly and professional. The initial presentation was the most thorough and complete estimate that we have ever received for any work. It inspired a great deal of confidence in both the company and the work to be completed. This project was a big deal to us -- the roof is one of the most important pieces in the structure of the house! We ultimately selected Consumer Construction because we really felt that they cared about our project and our satisfaction. Consumer Construction completed the work quickly and the work site was left spotless each day. The new roof, etc. look great! We highly recommend Consumer Construction.

There were weather delays at first due to heavy rains (not their fault, obviously). Finally got a hard date on Memorial Day weekend (neither of us realized this but they came and did the job regardless). Job was completed in a day (except for gutters which were installed a few days later). Crew was professional and courteous. The price was comparable to other offers (still a fair amount, but I am a Cheap B******(tm) by nature who doesn't like to spend money unless it's *really* worth it. This was worth it.). I am also having them replace my siding in a few weeks.

I think it went very well. The woman that I spoke with on the phone was very nice and gave me the information I needed. They were able to repair my roof within a week. I didn't need to be there, so I didn't actually meet anyone from the company. We have had another period of rain the spot hasn't gotten any bigger so the leak seems to be fixed. It was also a relief to find out that the roof was otherwise fine. I spoke again with the office and again was pleased with the interaction.

Consumer Construction was immediately responsive to my email inquiry about the bay window replacement. Initially, they wanted to give a flat-fee repair rate to have someone come out and fix the leak, but I explained that this was a little more insidious and probably going to take significant work. As it turned out, their estimator recommended replacing the roof for $1100. At the same time, I asked to take advantage of a deal they were running to install an attic fan, including having an electrician hard-wire it, for $525, via an Angie's List deal. The roof estimator said that the installer would probably want to cut a groove into the brick facing of my house where the metal roof joins it, in order to install and caulk flashing to make it watertight. The attic fan did not require any initial visit/survey, they did it all in the same visit. The work was delayed for 2 weeks while I got HOA approval (!) to mount a semi-flush mount, matching-color, vent fan on my roof, so we decided to delay the roofing work for 2 weeks since it only leaked during severe rain. After the roofing job, I inspected it. The seam where it meets the brick, in particular, appears very well caulked, professionally done and installed. However, it did not appear to have the flashing cut into the brick. When I followed up with the installer via phone a few days later, he said they did not typically cut into the brick, and that the new caulks they use, coupled with careful installation, were typically sufficient. Further, he reassured me that if we had any problems with leaking in the future, they would take care of it under warranty. Given the ease of working with Consumer Construction, I am going to accept this reasoning - the more I thought about it, I can envision that cutting into the brick might produce structural issues that I don't want to deal with either. I did perform my own hose-test to verify that it was watertight, and there was no leakage after a significant soaking simulating driven rain. The attic fan installation went totally smoothly, almost transparent to me. One of the reasons I chose Consumer Construction was that their slightly higher price included an electrician to do the wiring. The other companies expected me to either find my own electrician or wire it myself - I'm relatively good at consumer-grade electrical work, but just didn't want to deal finding wiring in the attic, running wires safely, etc, for less than $100. I did have to make arrangements to have the subcontractor electrician come back because he hard-wired it into an outlet that is actually a switched outlet off of the attic light switch (unusual, and it fooled me the first time I went up there too). However, he was easy to work with and I can't blame his assumption that the outlet in the attic was not switched, since that's the way it should have been wired and I wasn't around during the wiring to tell him differently. So overall, the major work was fixing the roof leak. I am happy with how it turned out, but it's a tricky setup - metal bay roof joining to brick fascade - so the real proof is in whether it holds up for a few years (and if not, their honoring their warranty). But the people have been easy and pleasant to work with the entire time, so I would use them again no problem.

Chris Tinder, "On call electricians"" , Ltd came to our house to install the fans. He was professional, did a superb job, and was very efficient. We will definitely be calling him again for any electrical issue we have in our new home.. Couldn't be happier with the work he did. The fans look great, and are exactly what we needed in preparing for summer in Virginia. Chris is highly recommended.
Description of Work: I needed to hire someone bonded and insured to install 3 ceiling fans in our upstairs bedrooms. I bought the fans, the house was built pre-wired, but just needed someone that could simply install them for us. I called this company, and they gave me the name of one of their employee that does electrical contracting work for them (Chris Tinder, of "Ön call electricians, ltd". He promptly called me back and set up an appt for the following week, and even gave me a military discount.

It was a fairly small job and they did it on the spot. It was satisfactory. They were fine. I didn't have any problems. They also cleaned the gutters and blew the debris off, which was nice. I was able to talk with them and they didn't seem to mind that. I had arranged for two other companies to come out but it turned out to be a smaller job than I thought and they were able to do it right then so I didn't compare the price. They came when they said.

It took about one day or so. No stray nails or anything around. Sometimes tiles begin to bleed down, but this has not happened. It has been 5 years since.

I called Consumer Construction, Inc., a woman answered and took my contact information because "I was new customer", then I described the problem areas in my home where I have water leaks and requested someone come out to give me an estimate. She offered me a $325 "service call" price where they would fix the problem on the spot; this would prevent the contractor from coming back to the property or there was a "free estimate". I told her I'd prefer the "free estimate" and not the service call because I wanted an estimate of the work that needed to be done (I already knew, from other contractor estimates, the work is more involved). The women was persistent that I take the $325 service call or nothing. Then, not only did she tell me that she had to decline my request and not take my work, but she hung up on me.

I discovered a water spot on our family room ceiling, last week but had no idea where the source of the leak was, so I called Consumer Construction for an evaluation and estimate. They were very prompt in getting back to me and were courteous enough to call to postpone the appointment when the weather interfered. The evaluation and estimate were very precise and included pictures of the work that needed to be done. In fact, if I hadn't needed a lot of roof shingles that they didn't have on the truck, they were prepared to do the repairs that day. They came back today, did the work, were very efficient and thoroughly cleaned up afterward. They repaired siding boards that had loosened so well that I can't even tell where the problem was now. They also secured a wire that was hanging over one of the gutters. I think it came loose from a satellite dish that we never use. I would definitely call Consumer Construction again.
Description of Work: Roofing and siding: Replaced counter-flashing on chimney. Secured 2 pieces of loose siding. Replaced 1 bundle of shingles. Replaced 3 pipe collars. Installed metal flashing to cover large hole at the roof peak. Replaced shingle around the furnace vent. Painted furnace vent to stop and prevent rust. Secured a loose satellite wire (dish is not used).
