CHARLIE & SON TRASH & RECYCLING SERVICE INC

We have a private garbage collection company we use: CHARLIE & SON TRASH & RECYCLING SERVICE. When they pick up the trash, they go out of their way to make sure everything is picked up and neat. If anything falls out they will pick it up. If they come out very early in the morning, they respect that people are sleeping and they will hand dump the trash rather than working the mechanical arm which can be very noisy. They are very good people.

Jennifer was "a breath of fresh air" and very helpful.

Charlie & Son was pretty good in the beginning of our many years of service. They were always on time, the price was good and we did not have any issues (at least for the first 2 years). However, over the past year we have had 2 bills that we paid that they claim they never received. They do not use computers and they do not assign account numbers. You get a handwritten bill in advance requesting payment for 3 months of service. At times we have gone and paid the bill in person and everything is handwritten in a big old ledger book which leads me to believe there is a lot of room for error since one person does all of the accounting by hand for the company. They have a ton of customers, so there is no way they can keep this big ledger book 100% accurate. No one is that good. Even after providing proof that the bills were paid, they still claimed that we were wrong and they were right and also charged us late fees for bills that were never late. So, in order to keep our name good, there were 2 bills that we paid twice just so they would not come after us for money that we really did not owe them. They are very rude and they certainly do not believe in the age old philosophy that the customer is right. They also started getting really sloppy on where they put the trash cans after they emptied them on trash days. On more occassions than we can count, we would find our trash bins 3 houses down (we are in townhouses) and would have to go retrieve them. We also spent a small fortune landscaping our front yard earlier this year and we found our trashcan on top of brand new plants once. This happened not long after we complained about our trash can being 3 houses down. On a separate occassion this past June, I came home from work and our trash can was no where to be found. We reported this to Charlie and Son and they said that we would have to pay for a new trash can. I was like, are you kidding me???? For all I know, they could have taken it back to their location in an attempt to try to get more money. If you think about it, that would be really easy to do and the could make a nice little profit if they did this to many customers! We finally told them that we wanted to cancel since they continued to be rude and have unethical business practices. We had just paid another 3-month bill in advance about 2 weeks prior. We requested a refund and they absolutely refused. They really do not have their act together and I discourage anyone from using them. It is time for Charlie and Son to either go under new management or go out of business for good!

We had this service for several years, but I just cancelled due to their inability to perform basic accounting tasks. For the past several months they have stopped service to us periodically, claiming they did not receive payment. Each time I provided them with a copy of the bank check which they had cashed weeks before. They are apparently unable to deal with online bank checks sent to them, since they do not assign account numbers and cannot look up names. They do, however, promptly cash the checks, even though they do not trouble themselves to credit any account for the payment. Their pickup service is adequate, but their administration is terrible.

A man from a different service came by and gave us a fixed price that wouldn't go up for a year, unlike charlies, which would jump up every few months. When we canceled with charlies, they sent us a bill for a month that I had already paid for. They also, left 2 of their trash receptacles behind.
