BJ's Painting

THey did a very good job and the paint used dries at 7mil thick.  The paint is labeled as paint to cover, and has a very good adherence.

I had asked the owner of BJ's Painting, Thomas Johns, to talk with me about getting some equipment from houses I was to tear down at another site.  While talking with Thomas, he asked if I had considered refreshing the paint on my trim.   I told him to give me an estimate and he put together an estimate suggesting power washing, caulking, and painting.   I took a walk with him around the house and identified some places below the bedroom bay window which showed signs of wood rot around the window frames.  He suggested we add that to the appraisal, and he would be responsible for getting a carpenter to do that and any other wood work necessary.   We completed the walk around and I asked that since they had the ladders for the high levels if they could also add washing all exterior windows to the appraisal, which we did.  

I told him I wanted to examine the estimate a day or two so when I returned his call on Thursday I verified that he was licensed and bonded and told him to proceed; he started the following Monday.  They showed up promptly, a team of 3 and worked through the job in an orderly manner with the power washing first.  They had their own ladders, paint, equipment, with trucks, etc.   They went about doing their job with the only requests from me being a question of paint preference for the doors, which I had in my basement and which they used. 

They showed up about 8am and worked until about 5 to 6pm.  A senior supervisor was present at all times, and no illegals were used in their work.  Workers were actively busy with very few breaks except for meals.   Minimal noise and everything was done with professionalism.  They used high quality Sherwin Williams paint, and caulked all cracks and joints before painting.

I found a separate job for the carpenter to do to repair some spindles on my balcony which had started to rot from the bottom up.  Neighbors had undertaken the repair of those put in by the same builder at a cost of $3500 and which this carpenter managed to do for less than $1000 per house.   While this was work not on the appraisal or estimate, Thomas had his guys return after the wood work was completed to caulk around the base of the spindles and paint them.

In addition to doing the job defined, he also helped me by removing some dead shrubs in the front of the house so I could plant 3 new hedge plants.   They were just very personal and professional.
