I liked them. I think that they’re pretty good. They are expensive, but I think they guarantee their work. If your basement does flood afterwards they will repair it. I was a little disturbed because it did not seem like an agreement that was transparent to the layperson. I am kind of worried that if there should be a problem that they may say they don’t cover something. I think they do good work. They came at the agreed amount time and it cost the agreed amount. They were clean and professional. They also gave me a pretty extensive list of former people they had done work for. I did call up a few of them and received very positive notices. In fact, one of the other client’s said that she was so satisfied that she even recommended them to two relatives. I did not have them cover the interior fix ups or the landscaping because it was more economical to have that work done by others.
Description of Work: They enlarged a basement window in a rental unit of mine. They did it so it would meet city code to be a bedroom. They installed the window and window well. It also included some flood prevention measures. At another investment house, they installed a sump pump to supplement some window well drainage that was already there.

During the recent storm event (Sandy), we noticed some water seepage into our basement. Having spent a good bit of time researching waterproofing companies, we decided, primarily upon reviews and results on Angie's List, to hire Apex Waterproofing to help us with this issue. Their general manager appeared for the estimate on-time and quickly found the source of our leak. He also checked every other part of our foundation and our yard for any other possible sources of water leaks. Having found only the single foundation crack, he proceeded to provide us with an estimate and a full explanation of exactly what would be done and how they would proceed in order to make the issue go away permanently. When they came to do the work, they were on-time again, and, they provided detailed explanations of the entire procedure, including step-by-step photographs. This process also included some interior demo and repair work, for which they completely enclosed our basement in plastic sheathing to keep the construction debris contained while they worked. Once completed, they returned the entire site, inside and outside, back to its original condition. I hope we don't need waterproofing service in the future, however, Apex would be my first call!

They were prompt and clean. The boss himself would show up to make sure that the owner of the company was monitoring the work. He was very good about that. The price was reasonable. They did a much more thorough prep and inspection before presenting me with the price. The owners presentation and research was very good. Their quality of service was good. I'd have them come back. I would recommend them, which I should have done already. They were responsive, professional and punctual. I would use them in the future if need be.

We had some minor water leakage in one corner of our lower level and cracks in the cinder block which we think were caused by the earthquake earlier this year. We found Apex on Angies list and contacted them on 3/14 to schedule a survey. Lou Peyton, the General Manager, came out the next day and gave us two options: doing the work on the inside which was much less expensive but not guaranteed to solve the problem, or doing the work on the outside which would definitely be guaranteed to solve the drainage problem. We also asked for and received a quote to replace our concrete driveway. Lou gave us a verbal quote at the time of the survey and then emailed a written quote later that day. I then contacted a second company from Angie's list for a survey and a quote. The second quote came in approximately $2,000.00 higher and didn't include as many services. We signed a contract with Apex on 3/28 and work was started on 4/2. The work was done efficiently and very professionally. Any questions that I had were addressed immediately and Lou was always available by cell phone. One thing that we realized was that, no matter how much we were told to be prepared for the amount of damage to existing vegetation that the excavation would cause, it was much worse that we were prepared for. The original quote of $26,840.00 also was increased by $3,400.00 because of new wood for the deck replacement, the addition of a dry well, and repairs to the bay window that we requested and were not in the original contract. Overall, we had as good an experience as could be had for this type of extensive repair work and would definitely use Apex again. Update: I have had one spot in my yard settle over the year. I will contact them to have them back out.
Description of Work: Excavation and waterproofing of exterior foundation at rear of home, removal and replacement of air conditioner, placement of dry well in front side yard, removal of deck and reconstruction using all new material, replacement of old driveway with new concrete, replacement of damaged siding on bay window at rear of home.

Everything was done according to contract specifications. The four man crew were very neat and professional. The entire job was completed in roughly six hours. The crew even replanted a couple of azalea bushes which had to be removed for the excavation. We are very pleased with the results and would highly recommend Apex to anyone in need of waterproofing services.
Description of Work: After a few days of rain, we would experience a water leak in our basement through a crack in our poured concrete foundation. Apex came and excavated outside down to the footers, found the crack, filled it in with hydrostatic cement, put tar over the outside wall, covered that with a rubber membrane, then refilled the hole. Inside the basement, they filled in the crack with hydrostatic cement, drilled through the foundation down to the drain pipe, then place more rubber membrane over the sealed crack down into the foundation.

Our basement floor was soaked and we called Apex to request a waterproofing quote. The rep looked at floor and told me that he didn't think it was a foundational leaking/crack issue and told me that I should look for a leaky pipe. The rep didn't try to sell me goods or services that weren't needed. He was very professional, punctual, and a pleasure to deal with. I would call them again if I had a waterproofing need.

The entire Apex team was great. Their estimate was very reasonable compared to others I got. Lou took the time to explain the job in detail and make recommendations that would save me money without compromising safety or the dryness of my basement. The crew arrived at 8 am every day on the nose and put in a hard days work. They left the job site clean every day and did their best to minimize the dust in the house by taping off the work area.
Description of Work: The Apex team dug out and installed a window well, cut the poured cement foundation, installed a new window that provides legal egress, replaced an old sump pump, and framed out and installed an interior door.

The second day in my newly purchased home, I discovered that the city's drainage system had backed up into my basement through a door neighbor's property. I felt overwhelmed and it was before I was on Angie's List. Thank goodness I lucked out when I found Apex online. Lou was the first of several contractors whom I called, the next day he assessed my situation, found an available slot in Apex's calendar, and within days he had his team install an internal drainage & pump system. Because some of the water was coming through my neighbor's, Lou accurately assessed that situation and encouraged me to reach out to my neighbor so that we could arrange an easy solution of how my system (rather than my house) could capture her water and evacuate it. Lou and his guys delivered. BIG TIME. His fee has been worth every single penny. Not only that, I recently had a problem with the city's drainage system and called Lou who put me in touch with a plumber who also saved the day. I highly recommend Lou with the utmost level there is possible.

It went great, I would definitely recommend Apex to anyone with water problems.
Description of Work: I was experiencing a lot of water coming into our basement, especially when it rained. I contacted several different companies in the area for an estimate. After countless appointments, I finally found Apex and I'm so happy I did. Lou came out within 48 hours to take a look at my basement. He explained everything in great detail - much more so than the other companies I spoke with. He showed me exactly where the problems were - turned out I had several cracks in my foundation, and no sump pump whatsoever! Most the estimates I received were in the range of $8-10,000, but Lou quoted me around $4,000. VERY fair and they did great work - his crew was in and out of the house in 2 days! I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Everyone from the owner to the office staff to the crew who came to do that work was so friendly. And I'm happy to say after the torrential downpour yesterday and last night, my basement is DRY! What a relief! Thank you Apex!!!!!

We called over a week ago to schedule an appointment for an estimate for insulating our crawlspace. They were supposed to come on Monday, 11/7/11. They called Monday morning to reschedule as the person who was supposed to do the estimate had a family emergency. No problem. We rescheduled for today, 11/9/11. The person never showed and there was no call letting us know they would be late/couldn't make it. I've left a message with their office, but have yet to have a response. Very disappointed.

Response from Apex Waterproofing
Due to technical difficulties beyond our control, an appointment for an estimate or consultation was never made for this Angie's List Member. After we received the response, we have unsuccessfully made numerous attempts to call this Member and see if there was a way we could assist him with his situation.

Working with Lou has been one of the more positive experiences of our basement remodel. After discovering we had water leaking into our basement corners, right before we put up drywall, time was of the essence to get an estimate for waterproofing and work started. We had so many varied quotes on the work from $11,000 to $34,000. Lou listened to us and we asked him to use specific materials in the parging process. We had 2 sides of our foundation dug out, and sealed - come to find out there was NO weeping tile system in place for this house at all. Lou installed a new weeping tile system, dry well for the downspouts, and sealed our foundation. He even took care to try and save the foundation plantings - which we didn't need at all. The crew worked an extra long day in anticipation of rain, and even when their truck took down our telephone wire, everything was made right in the end. A truly positive experience, for what was a stressful and expensive repair. Now we are confident as we finish our basement remodel - we will be dry. Update: 7/30/12 - Hoping that our experience with Apex would be just as positive as our waterproofing project, we hired them to finish our basement remodel project. (We had to fire our first contractor and Apex was able to give us a competitive price to finish the job.) Unfortunately - the remodel experience was almost unbearable. I cannot possibly explain in detail ALL of the issues that arose during our project, but the major items were: multiple failed inspections, unprepared workers who had to "borrow" our tools to finish jobs, lack of knowledge of Maryland building codes, and hours of wasted time on our part as we watched over the workers on a daily basis to ensure the the job was being done properly. I can't tell you how many hours my husband stood in the basement supervising the work that was being performed. The final straw was the air conditioning system that was not in working order for over 2 months as they struggled to figure out how to install it properly and get it to function. After the project dragged from July 2011 into February 2012 - we finally asked them to leave without totally finishing the job. We just wanted them OUT. To this day we have an uneven bathroom floor (after two tries!), a bathroom vanity that stands on only 3 legs, and a Carrier air conditioner system that we FINALLY got repaired and in working order just last week. (emails to Apex to help us fix the faulty unit were not returned and the previous phone number we were given is no longer in working order). The workers constantly complained to my husband about not being paid in a timely manner (which would make anyone nervous about their project!) and the trip from VA to MD on a daily basis proved too time consuming. Their "expert electrician" would typically show up to our job, look around, tell us he didn't have the correct tools and then leave for the day. From start to finish, this was an excrutiating experience. Apex should stick to waterproofing - remodeling is just NOT where their talents lie.
Description of Work: Foundation parging (2 sides of house). Weeping tile installed (2 sides of house). Dry well created. Downspouts buried to dry well. $17,000 Update 7/30/12: Basement Remodel $35,000+

Response from Apex Waterproofing
On or about June 22, 2011, the member contacted our office to stop the water infiltration that was occurring in their basement. We completed that with great success. At that time the member had contracted with another company to remodel the basement interior. The member requested we inspect the work that was being performed by the other contractor. Upon our inspection we found many defects in the framing, electrical, plumbing and HVAC work that had been done. The contractor had started the project without obtaining permits, working illegally, so the member requested for us to take over the project to complete it correctly. We replied that we would be more than willing to do so, but it would be a process of correcting the former contractor’s work and in all likelihood there would be numerous inspections that could possibly fail for work that was previously performed by the original contractor that was hidden from us. We obtained all of the proper permits necessary to complete the project. All of the items that failed on any inspection from work performed by the previous contractor were corrected by APEX Waterproofing. At this time the member has a very nice finished basement that is water proofed and will remain that way for many years to come. We do understand that this member had a frustrating experience prior to contacting APEX Waterproofing, but we feel that the review that was given is inaccurate and does not fully depict the scope of the project at hand. We highly recommend that you read our other reviews and upon request we can provide many additional references for waterproofing as well as remodeling/renovation projects. This review does not depict in any way the quality of work that is performed by APEX Waterproofing.

First of all I liked the price, it sometimes comes down to the bottom line they quoted a better price than the other. They didn't take 2 hours unlike the other company for the assessment. We really appreciated that the general manager of that branch came and not a rep trying to score a sale. He just came out; he was the most knowledgeable and not pushy.
