Description of Work: Said he'd be by a number of times to repair blinds and never came out. When I called to check on status he acted like I was still making a decision on the situation. I wanted blinds installed no decision to make. Color, type, and time had already been discussed. I even have the Angie's List chat record.

Description of Work: Two jobs - putting a keyed handle on a linen closet door and I have waited so long that I can't remember the other. Both jobs fit easily into the first hour of the visit so the cost was excellent. Handyman was efficient, professional and all went very well.

Description of Work: Feb - March 2009 - Rebuilt florida room on exterior deck. Started as window leak / roof leak repair and determined that homeowner did the work, not the builder. Removed siding, MDF wall board, moldy carpet, installed plywood on deck floor, provided deck support beam under deck, installed wood wall board and drywall, new taller windows (my idea), new exterior door, replaced siding. They snapped a piece of exterior siding and connected it with clear epoxy - thinking I didn't notice. The siding has held together so far though. They broke the light for the ceiling fan and replaced it with a schoolhouse model light (less attractive) but at least they were honest about that and took care of it without my asking. Phil Nader rebuilt the handrail for steps leading to the deck using scrap wood at his shop - his idea. He didn't like the way the original handrail was configured. The nails they used to install vinyl floor on the deck plywood popped up so they re-hammered them and placed a second layer of vinyl floor (at their expense). They opted to use nails rather than screws (which the original builder / homeowner had used). They cut the drywall without a guide so there are significant gaps at the existing (interior) windows. They refused to correct this without additional fee. Wanted more money to install additional trim (to be purchased by me). I was financially tapped out by then so the room isn't completely finished still. They wanted an absurd fee to perform interior painting of the drywall. One employee cut the vinyl floor incorrectly at the exterior door but they covered it up with the door sill. They cut the wood floor trim wrong so I had to purchase and stain more so they could redo that effort. The crew is punctual. Phil Nader was nice until the project was almost finished & they had to repeat work - then he got testy. I guess my project was taking his crew away from other work. He is more expensive than some firms but at least he hasn't gone out of business like other firms have and doesn't do a bait and switch with materials. I had this happen previously but that crook apparently went out of business, or changed the company name. |I would recommend Williamsburg Maintenance and may contact them in the future for home repair work.

+ -1 moreI was very impressed with the reviews of this contractor so was delighted when he responded immediately to my request for an appointment to see the projects we needed completed. He said he would get back with me right away to schedule. After a week of no contact, I emailed him. Said he would get back with me right away to schedule. After I didn't hear anything for two more weeks, I had to find someone else since we had an immediate need. I would have preferred to be told that they were too busy to come out so I wouldn't have lost more than three weeks trying to get the repairs completed.
Description of Work: Sadly we did not get a chance to use them.

+ 0 moreThe ceiling fan installation was easy and quick. Running the speaker wire proved difficult due to construction of the walls in which I needed the wire fished. This was supposed to be a quick job; however, it took all day. Again, this was not Williamsburg Maintenance's fault. They even recomputed my bill because the job took so much longer than anyone expected. Shamus and James worked very hard, wasted no time, and were very nice people. You know you found a thoughtful contractor when a shop vacuum is brought in with the first batch of tools.
Description of Work: Installed a ceiling fan in a vaulted ceiling. Ran speaker wire for home theater surround speakers.

+ -1 moreTwo guys arrived 13 minutes late -- outside the 45 minute window in which I was expecting them. They went right to work, putting the new safety hardware in the shower. They laid down drop cloths on the bedroom rug and in the shower and vacuumed up after the work was done. The supervisor had to go to a hardware store to get brackets for the stair rail (miscommunication between me and the owner on what I needed). While one guy worked on repairing the nose board on the stairs and installing new weather stripping around the door from the house to the garage, the supervisor installed the second handrail on the stairs. They vacuumed the stairs when the installation was complete. They provided the handrail (stained to match our needs), the brackets for the handrail, the safety bars for the shower and the weather stripping for the door. In addition, they measured the stair handrail that had been installed by the builder in case we want to change it to match. The builder had installed a handrail made of poplar. The stairs and the new handrail are made of oak.
Description of Work: Installed 2 safety bars in shower; installed handrail for stairs; replaced weather stripping around door from house to garage, repaired nose board on steps.

+ -1 moreThis company did an excellent job of repairing and replacing composite siding and trim work on our house. They adhered to their estimate even though the job grew (a little) as they removed elements. The work was started timely and completed on schedule with excellent quality. I like the fact that they didn't start the job and then put it on hold while they started other jobs; they worked straight through. The crew was experienced, knowledgeable, careful of their work and respectful of the us and our neighbors (meaning they didn't start making noise earlier/later than appropriate). The only complaint i have is that we have continued to find nails from the siding work in our driveway after rainstorms for months afterwards; not exactly sure where they were coming from (I assume they were washing down from the roof); they did a good scan for the nails at the end of the job, but they keep appearing. They promised an estimate for an additional piece of work they identified, but have not followed up; we let it drop and will address it in the spring.
Description of Work: Living in a swampy part of Williamsburg that is constantly exposed to direct sunlight and high humidity means that you have to stay on top of painting. Over time, the composite siding absorbed water and had some dry rot, so we discussed replacing the siding (the appearance we really liked) and hired this company to estimate replacing with aluminum or vinyl. We were pleasantly surprised when they offered an alternative approach, at a lower price, using a newer composite which was more resistant to moisture, preserving the appearance we like and only requiring replacement of the actual bad boards.
