MCLEAN TRASH SERVICE

We have used McLean Trash Service for over 20 years for two different residences where we have lived. McLean Trash is by far cheaper than all the other companies, but, as they say, you get what you pay for. I have stuck by this small company in the past even though I know that they will miss pickups (but usually would take everything by the next scheduled service day, and never later than one week) and that they will not return phone calls. But, since they have not made a regularly scheduled pickup since December 17, 2020, and it is now January 8, 2021, meaning they have missed SIX trash day pickups and THREE recycling pickups, and trash and recycling are overflowing at my curb (it was just the holidays, when people have MORE trash and recycling than usual), I believe I am finally going to give up on saving money and find another company. I called in a complaint today to Fairfax County's permitted solid waste divisions, but not until I had called McLean Trash (knowing they wouldn't return my call). The answering machine for McLean trash says their truck has broken down and they are working to resume service as soon as possible. Not acceptable. I have met the owner before when he was picking up trash one day (he usually has employees do it), and, basically, I think it is time for him to shut down his business because he is not able to run it effectively anymore. I knew they were a small company, but now I have found out they only have ONE truck, and when it has broken down, they have no alternative. So, they are not providing the service they agreed to provide. Also, when I called Fairfax County to complain, the person I spoke to said that she had been taking calls only during someone else's lunch hour and that she had received three calls about McLean Trash during that 45 minutes or so.

We've used them for 17 years. They are low priced and used to have good service. Although I don't think I've ever been able to speak to someone unless I run out to the garbage truck as it comes by. The past few years has seen their service deteriorate. They now put all our recycling into the garbage truck. This has been going on for over six months. We take our recycling to the county ourselves now. They said it was because of a broken garbage truck but after so long, I can only assume that they don't have enough trucks to do recycling. The owner of the company is very rude. They miss pick ups completely from time to time and one time and I called to complain. When they came by, I was outside. He told me that they missed my garbage because I didn't get it out early enough. I told him (truthfully) that I had put it out the night before. He called me a liar. He is not the type of guy who deserves anybody's business. Unfortunately, for those who are not in HOAs and not with Fairfax County's service, there is very little choice with garbage pick up.

How is this company still in business??? They skip pickups for trash. They skip pickups for recycling. They will NEVER answer the phone or call you back. They have no website. They have no email address for communicating. There is no schedule for whether there is pickup on holidays. It's like paying for someone to hit me on the head. I'll stop, and my recommendation is you avoid getting in the same situation I am in.

Overall the trash is picked up as scheduled BUT when there are missed pickups--and it's happened several times (!) just in the past month--they NEVER EVER pick p their office phone and NEVER EVER return a phone call. This is not your friendly local family-owned business one would hope for. It has the absolute worst customer service with utter and complete disregard for their customers. Even a trail of bad reviews over the years hasn't appeared to change their approach one iota. Moreover, the owner who I once spoke to from his truck, was stunningly nasty and unpleasant. We'll be dumping them soon....pun intended!

If you call with a question the owner uses profanity and is vulgar.

Good, reliable, cost-effective service for many years, but has gone terribly downhill over the last year. Regular trash collection still ok, but I never know when/if recyclables will be picked up. Current recyclables have been sitting at the curb for five days, and this is a repeat situation. I've tried to call many times, but no-one picks up the phone or returns calls, and it appears they either don't listen to messages or do nothing about them. I'm looking for another provider.

The worst customer service you'll ever encounter. They often don't pick up the trash on days they are supposed to and there is absolutely no notification of any kind. If you try to call the phone can ring for hours and no one would pick up. No website either. It's hard to believe this company is still in business.

I don't understand how McLean Trash rated an overall "B" on Angie's List. If you look at their Yelp Reviews you will get a better picture of the type of unprofessional service they provide. They will miss trash pick-ups. That is bad enough but the worst part is that no one ever picks up their phone at their 'office'. If you do happen to get the answering machine and leave a message, there will never be a return phone call. Today is a prime example. There was no trash collection. I started to call at 6 p.m. in the vain hope that someone might actually answer. The phone rang busy. I kept calling for 2 hours and the phone rang busy for the entire time. This is no way to run a business. They certainly don't care about their customers. It's ridiculous.

I've used them for year and they are just great. They take oversized items, yard trash and they are nice too boot. Highly recommended.

We began service 3 weeks ago, deciding to favor a small company with better prices. Cans were promised but never delivered. Most phone messages were not returned. On 1/7/15 pickup, our personal can was damaged beyond use, with huge cracks in both body and lid of can. Company will not return calls.

We called many times and finally, got hold of them. Then, they came pretty quick to collect. They are family business and seem friendly. we incline to advocate small business. So far so good. Saw their advertisement on HOA newsletter claiming they have lowest rate. We have not compared them with others, yet. We figure this is pretty basic as long as they come collect and don't do a super lousy job. We are ok with it, in another word, we don't have high expectation at this point. And, grateful that trashes will be collected!

They are cheaper than other options in the area. Because they don't have a website or email they are harder to contact, but they do return phone calls. They come later in the day which is not ideal, but they pick up trash twice a week and recycling once. When we moved they picked up a lot of boxes as well. They are way way better than their competitior, who bullies, traps, and overcharges. We have spoken to their drivers when we've had questions and gotten straight answers.

These guys are great. We moved in and had a ton of boxes. I left them out at the curb not knowing which day was recycling day. I chose the wrong day. The driver came up to the house to explain and welcomed me to the neighborhood. On the following Wednesday, they took boxes stacked as high as I could reach. I have never had a problem and so far they have been outstanding!

They are excellent. I would use them again in the future.

We have been with McLean Trash for two months and so far are very pleased with the service they provide.
