About us

Montgomery Shade and Awning is a family owned and operated local business with over 40 years of industry experience in shades and awnings. We opened Montgomery Shade and Awning because there was a need in the Northern Virginia/Washington DC suburbs for a local ‘shade’ purveyor. We are proud to have been the first company to offer ‘European Retractable Awnings’ to this market and we continue to offer these and the more traditional tailored awnings to our customers. We have always enjoyed helping customers solve their sun and weather protection problems with attractive awning solutions using the best quality materials with skilled installation and follow up services. We take pride in providing our customers with finished products that include colorful storefronts and attractive outdoor living spaces that our customers enjoy. We believe that we set ourselves apart from our competitors because we only offer the premium products that provide better quality and durability. We are a small company that takes pride in craftsmanship, appealing and functional end results and happy, long term and repeat customers. As members of the Professional Awning Manufacturer's Association (since 1986) we strive to meet a code of ethics keeping the customer's needs first, with high quality products and excellent service. Offering retractable awning systems originating in Switzerland, Germany and the US with premium outdoor fabrics gives us the edge on state of the art design and quality. Our in-house installation staff have solved the most challenging mounting problems and are paid hourly, not by the job. We take the time to do it right the first time. I called the member immediately upon seeing her July 2nd report and apologized. My notes indicated that I had made a tentative appointment for May 3, 2012 to be comfirmed by the member. My notes don't indicate a follow up confirmation and I did not keep the appointment. She told me she believed it was a confirmed appointment and I was at fault. Since 'the customer is always right' and it was most likely a simple misunderstanding I again apologize. I do wish she had called or emailed me when I didn't arrive, as she expected, so the problem could have been rectified immediately.

Description of Work: I needed to replace my awning which was collecting water. We were considering a retractable so that we wouldn't have this problem. Bob (owner) came out within a week of my call, took a look and told me the best awning for our setup was the one we had, that while he could install a retractable ($3-$4K), he did not think we would be happy with it, because the set up that we had was the best for our architecture. He suggested we use a power saw to lower the front of the frame by 3" and order a new replacement awning ($1K). Kicker is, he told me he rarely works with our manufacturer, and since I already had a quote from another company to just use them. He was here for 30 mins, gave me good suggestions, and walked away with no sale (or sales pitch). That's the sign of a quality company who cares about their customers!
