UPDATE: CONTRACTORS LICENSE REVOKED!!!!!!! I filed a complaint with DPOR Virginia, and made a claim against Total Concrete, Mike Land and Missouri Land, ( the business is in Mike's wife's name ) seven months after I filed a complaint and about 5 emails and few phone calls, I was notified by the state that Total Concrete has lost their contractors license due to a previous complaint with a similar scenario to mine. ( they screwed someone else too! ) Anyway, read on.... Good afternoon Mr. ******, I am following up regarding the telephone conversation we had on last Thursday, September 12, 2013, regarding your inquiry about the complaint you filed against Missouri C. Land. As I advised during our conversation, the contractor license for Mr. Land was revoked by the Board for Contractors as a result of Mr. Land?s failure to comply with the terms of a Consent Order agreement he made with the Board in another disciplinary case. The Department?s website reflects that the license has been revoked, and I have attached a copy of that information for your reference. In light of the license revocation, the case file regarding the complaint you filed will be closed administratively. We will be sending you a letter advising you of the same in the next few days. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Have a nice day, Joseph C. DON'T LET IT HAPPEN TO YOU. Total Concrete was recommended by another contractor I was using, Bobcat Dave. The work to be performed was to remove our existing concrete driveway, replace our walkway, steps and a new driveway from the street to the back of the house. Mike Land came out and gave my wife and I an estimate for services. His estimate was mid-range of the 3 other estimates I had for the work to be performed. Other estimates were $8100, $9200 and $12000. Total Concrete is licensed and their VA DPOR License # is 2705122066. He stated he could start the next day. We like his attitude, he was friendly and personable. I was given a list of references and address' in the area that he had completed. We visited those and generally were satisfied with his work. We had a friendly discussion with one of his customers who recommended him with some reservations. I discussed those reservations with Mike and he assured me that he could meet my expectations, do a quality job and get it done in a reasonable time. I wrote a check on October 02, 2012 for $3000.00 and agreed to Total Concretes proposal. So as of this date, (December 03, 2012) I still don't have a concrete driveway, and I am out of pocket $3000.00. The city did the final on my garage and left me a note stating I have to pull a permit for a driveway. (which was supposed to be done by Total Concrete and in the agreement ) Mike and his crew showed up the day after his stated completion date and installed the forms. That evening I called and told him I had a issue with what they had done. Instead of digging out the lawn and installing the forms, they installed the forms on top of my lawn, then installed sand on top of the lawn and this was how they intended to pour my driveway. It would have been 4 inches higher than my existing driveway and would have let the rainwater drain into my back door. They also left the lawn under the pad, and tree roots and trash in the forms. I called Mike to discuss, we made a few appointments for him to come over and discuss the form work. He never showed up and stopped returning my calls. After almost 8 weeks I delivered a letter stating I wanted my deposit back that they were in breech of contract. I personally hand delivered it to Michael Land himself. Four days later he returned my phone call and asked if we could work it out. I declined his offer and asked for my money back. To this date he has not returned my money. So overall my experience has been an with Total Concrete has been Total Failure. I caution you, and your money. It has been my experience that Michael Land and Total Concrete are less than forthcoming about what they can do for you.
Description of Work: Total Concrete was hired to remove my existing driveway, install a new driveway in its place and extend the driveway to the garage to the rear of my house. Also they were to replace the front steps and repair the front stoop. They showed up the day after their targeted completion date, installed forms, put down sand over my lawn and the owner told me he compacted it. No other work has been completed.
